  1. I have received several emails and txts about switching to a  tmobile sim.  Can someone tell me what benefits/downsides there would be.

I have a 20+ and my wife has a S20, both of which have been on  tmobile sites since pretty soon after the merger.

My oldest son has an S9 and my youngest son has an S8.  Not sure which sites they are on.

The latest text says they are sending sim cards for all the phones.

I don't want to be in a hurry to switch if there is a downside.

Btw we went camping and canoeing in Romney, WV area this past weekend and i was pleased with the Roaming coverage while in the mountains.   I had alot of LTE roaming with US cellular, but also alot of tmobile coverage as well.  In the past with Sprint whenever i was roaming, i could assume there was no data.  So a pleasant surprise.

Has your site been upgraded? Because B4/B66 performs worse on the new Nokia AAFIA Massive MIMO equipment in Texas. Before the upgrades, T-Mobile physically split sectors for B2/4/66 and coverage+performance was pretty impressive. B4/66 coverage was actually very close to that of B2 (even outperforming it in some instances).

Now that my local tower has been upgraded, I still receive B12 and B2 from it. But my B4/66 now comes from a different neighboring tower as my home tower's B4/66 is drowned out. As you can imagine, I no longer get the same peak speeds as before since CA doesn't play nice with bands coming from different towers. Even the newly added B41 has a better reach than B4/66 (getting 80+ mbps downloads on B41+B41, T-Mobile just needs to optimize load balancing as B41 thresholds seem very conservative).

I don't think we have been upgraded yet.  The B41 is still sprint and it doesn't ever let me connect to it.  I was thinking they might be working on upgrades since we have been having the issues with not being able to hear the person on the other end.  I was able to force B66 in my house but the signal was 10db lower and speeds weren't any better.   In my area sprint had good coverage, but speeds weren't always good.  At least the lower end speeds are better with Tmobile.  I can't wait until i see the B41 again.

I can live with the growing pains, because i know it will be better and so far they seem to be keeping promises better than Sprint ever did.

I usually have this happen whenever I switch from the native T-Mobile 310-260 PLMN to the 311-490 PLMN (and vice versa). Usually toggling airplane mode fixes the issue.

At one point i was on B66 all the time at our house, but now i almost never see Band 66.  I haven't paid attention to the PLMNs,  i will have to check.  We haven't had the issue in a few days, hopefully they have fixed whatever the issue was.

  4. Has anyone had issues with calls that connect but either one side or both can't hear.  Over the last week i have had several times with my wife and my son that this has happened.  One time rebooting my phone fixed it and another time my son rebooted his phone.  I live in Northern Va. Each time we have tried multiple calls and no luck.  But so far it has only happened with calls between us not with work or other calls.

  5. You are correct, i didn't realize they were the same frequency.  But for some reason they are listed differently in SCP.

The DL EARFCN is 2300 for the B4 and the DL for B66 is 66786 as shown in SCP.

If i leave it on auto, It stays mostly on B12 with only B4 and B2 neighbors showing with horrible speeds. Maybe they are making changes to B66 and putting people on B12 as primary for now?  But it was almost useless until i forced it back to B66.

But i can force B71 and B66 and LTE B41 with better speeds(A week ago i couldn't force B41 and do anything).

  6. I think they are making changes out here in Leesburg.  I have a S20+ and i have been on B66 mostly since the move.  Last night i was stuck on B12 and B4 and speeds were horrible.  I used Sprint Band Selector to force only B66, 71 and B41 and all 3 of them work with better speeds.  So they are changing something.

Btw under neighbor cells before i forced the other bands it only showed B12 and B4 when i knew i had plenty of B66 neighbors for the past several months.

interesting.  I'm sitting in my house, where I've always had good Sprint coverage.  All of a sudden, my phone now says no service available.  Something about unable to connect to T-Mobile.  I wonder what they are doing.

I live out in Leesburg, VA and I have a s20+.  Since they switched me over to Tmobile, my overall experience is better.  The top end speeds aren't as good, but i think we were overloaded out here on 800mhz, so with sprint it was often very slow.  no Band 71 out here that i have noticed.

  8. Mine switched around 6pm or so here in NOVA. I was on B2 LTE at first.  Speeds are 2-4mbps DL much slower than B41 was before on Sprint.  I have also seen B12 which had somewhat better speeds at 6mbps.  The signal was not as good as Sprint was either.

The coverage map on tmobile's website doesn't zoom in enough for me to see if i should be seeing 5g, but i am guessing i am just out of the 5g coverage. There are plenty of sites in my area that are, but not my house.

Sorry, forgot to post this question:

My WiFi calling is not behaving very well like it did on my S9+. It keeps timing out for GPS location if it can't reach any cellular network, really frustrating when I'm working in the basement at work. Anyone know how to keep it from doing this? I have my location on "high accuracy" as it suggests which is already using WiFi networks, etc. My S9+ would rarely display this message, and only if the WiFi network lost internet connectivity.

Edit: it DOES work if I just enable Airplane mode, then enable WiFi and WiFi calling. Then it works fine. So I don't know what gives....

i turned off my wifi calling because i missed several calls that went straight to voicemail.  I also got the message that said to turn on high accuracy which was already on.  I figured i would wait for any issues to get worked out before i tried it again.

  10. How do you get the bands to turn off?

i get to the menu and disable them, but they still show enabled.  I tried airplane mode off/on, mobile data off/on.  But they still show set to disabled, but are still enabled.

It seems to stay on band 26 more than my previous phone, so i want to test the other bands.

Also is anyone else having wifi issues (5ghz)?  i see the update mentioned says wifi stability fixes.  i hope that comes to sprint soon.  My wifi disconnects very often, when all my other devices at home never disconnect.  I have tried changing channels even though there aren't any interferers and it makes no difference.

  11. Not necessarily a fair comparison since the LTE you are likely experiencing now was there all the time but on bands the M7 wasn't capable of connecting to.

You are correct.  While i knew that the M7 didn't support B26 or B41, i assumed at my cube at work where i got B25 LTE sporatically with the M7, that the M9 was using B25 as well, but when i checked this morning, it was using B26 instead.  I will have to check at home and see what Band i am connected with.

So for someone coming from a M8 it might not be worth it, but from a M7 it is like night and day.  With the M7 the only place i had LTE was driving home down 7 most of the way.  With the M9, i almost always have LTE.

Also while visiting my inlaws in Central Virginia, with my M7 my battery was constantly draining because of the poor coverage and dropped calls, where the M9 hasn't dropped one call.

  12. I have had the M9 for a couple of weeks and the RF is wayyyyy better than my M7.  I have LTE most of the time in NOVA, where i rarely had it with my m7.  I have seen a couple of times where i lose a connection and have had to turn on airplane mode to reset it, but still much better than the M7.
