  1. I know everyone is concentrating on the radios and I like this discussion. But I did not have enough time to read through 16 pages of the thread to find an answer to this. Does anyone know if the SIM is soldered on like the initial batch of LTE phones? I thought I would simply ask and see if anyone knew this info or not.
  2. I am sure this has been posted elsewhere! But I could not find this article with an analyst speculating with Steve Elfman's info about implementation and some more solid timeline on BRS spectrum! I do not know how true the information is but just some food for thought for you 2.5Ghz folks! http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/analyst-sprints-nationwide-25-ghz-lte-network-could-be-boon-tower-companies/2013-08-01
  3. I know for sure the Liberty Memorial/National World War I Museum has an LTE DAS system as well. I have seen the rack and saw the construction of it as well. It is super nice to have almost 4 bars inside the concrete structure and have LTE speeds as well! Although it will be nice to have the SMR band lit up in the KC area to cover some of the fringe coverage in non DAS areas. I do know that Sprint is generally willing to do these things at minimal costs for the community. Go Sprint and why I will not leave the network. I have not seen or read of any other companies do this for their communities. But please correct me if I am wrong.
  4. http://www.wirelessweek.com/news/2013/07/sprint-records-16b-loss-wake-iden-shutdown Although this article does not state timelines. It does reiterate the "importance" of 2.5 spectrum for Sprint after the Clear acquisition. It did state which bands the handsets will have coming later this year. Of course (drum roll!) the iPhone will not play ball and support all the bands of NV. I thought this would be good reading for everyone! I figured it was about time I added substance to the site! Have a great day everyone! Pwong P.S. In case (like me) are too impatient and lazy to read the article then this is what key takeaway from the article!
  5. Good article on network buildout, MiFi device selection, decision on device manufacturing, and good general info from an official Sprint PR person. Read on: http://www.wirelessweek.com/articles/2013/06/sprint%E2%80%99s-tri-band-lte-could-be-valuable-differentiator PW
  6. Does anyone know if current work in the Kansas Markets (specifically Lawrence and KC metro) is causing dropped calls and delayed text messages? I am curious because I personally have been experiencing much more dropped calls, lower/no signal in areas where I used to have 4G or 3G data sessions, and fewer 1x signal where it used to be a couple of bars on my HTC EVO 4G LTE. Is this happening to anyone else? I am just curious to see if anyone knew of reasons why this is occurring? Are they going back to the nodes and adding 800 panels? I appreciate everyone's input.

  8. You want to know how much of a "dbag" Charlie is? Then read this 7 page article the other day about our good friend Charlie Ergen and his business tactics just within Dish Network. I would say partnering might be a possibility but it is going to cost him a lot more with the latest Clearwire stunt he pulled. http://www.businessw...y-in-america#p1
  9. I think a better way to think of this article is to think NV 1.0 is more of a macro network level so think MANs & WANs then NV 2.0 is more of a micro level where you will fill in the gaps and leverage the 800/1900/2500 portfolio even better via Pico Cells and Distributed Antannae Systems (DAS) to increase coverage to where people always complain about like the nook and crannies of buildings & arenas. An example of this would be when I worked in a building as a contractor where the whole building was made of concrete and never got any good signal period. So I think this is not really anything different than what NV when done in its entirity was not going to be a sweet bad mother of a network! This is just more of my interpretation of the article. Please do not pelt me with rocks!
  10. Looks like AJ and I are getting a treat this year from Sprint! I know some of the towers in the Lawrence, KS area have the new or improved backhaul because I would get around 1-1.5 Mbit north of town along 6th Street in Lawrence. Thanks guys for jumping on this so quickly. I do not even post because I am just way too slooooow! I promise I did not eat lead paint as a child! Patrick Wong
  11. I fiugured the link had been posted but could not find it so I thought I would post just in case! ha ha! Thanks for alerting me to this!
  12. I got this link from a buddy in Chicago area and thought I would share it since it is relevant to this topic: http://www.chicagotr...0,3787175.story Have fun reading and does not really share too much information but it is nice to get a confirmation that Chicago will be mostly complete by the end of year.
  13. Hey Flyer, I get this on occasion too. I have to do one of two things oftentimes: 1) Restart the phone 2) Toggle airplane mode My observation is the phone is thinking of going to either 4G or 3G so it is "thinking" in my opinion. I would think AJ or someone with better knowledge of the inner workings to shed some more light on this. I am in the KC market and have 4G in about 75% of the places I roam around to in KC area. Patrick
  14. Hey guys, apparently Boston is getting a taste of some early LTE sightings. I would not necessarily classify this as a "goes live ahead of schedule category" but more of a few testing towers/deployed towers in an unannounced market. I just thought I would share this with the forum and our fellow readers in the Boston area! Have fun with the higher speeds! Patrick http://www.phonearen...chedule_id33146
  15. FYI: The Sprint coverage maps are down on the Sprint site. So good things are to come to those who are patient right? I am guessing they are updating it down to street levels for LTE coverage (hopefully!). I just thought I would let people know as I stumbled upon this when I was wanting to check LTE coverage in a certain part of the City.
  16. I was at an event around the KS Driver's License Bureau around 63rd & Parallel. Then I went along State Ave to Turner Diag then onto I70 to I435 South to my house near 95th and K7. I will say except for a few minutes, then I had 4G LTE the whole way through. For the sake of safety, I was only able to do one test around I435 and 78th Street exit and got about 10Mbps Down and Up. So LTE is pretty live and well around the "City"! I just thought I would let everyone know of my experiences with 4G LTE.
  17. I live nearby K7 & 95th Street area in KC area and have seen LTE on my phone since Monday but disappears after an hour or so. Then I go to sleep in the evenings with 3G and wake up to 4G data signal and have run several speed checks and averaging around 4-5Mbps. I have seen many other parts of KC that my 4Gindicator will magically appear. I just thought I would mention this and inform folks that 4G is probably go live soon in the KC zone as I keep getting a lot of non-blocked towers that appear while I am driving along in the Kansas City market. Just my $0.02. Patrick
  18. Or I would go prepaid and utlitze Google Voice number porting service and have it simulring the prepay phone (using another network of course ha ha!) This is a much more cost effective way of riding out the rest of the ETF. This is just my $0.02 Patrick
  19. I will have to drive to this area on Wednesday. I will be in that area and will have to test out the 4G LTE airwaves! I will have to do some screen shots and post them up here on my shiny new EVO 4G LTE.
  20. Looks like Mexico & US FCC struck a deal today to have 800Mhz & 1900Mhz work and not intefere with each other's public safety equipment. http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=10581

    EVO LTE Heat

What you have to do is simply go to Dropbox & Turn off the auto camera uploads feature within the Dropbox app on the phone and possibly the site as well. I noticed the heat issue as well but I have not been experiencing it on the same level as you. You are more than welcome to PM me if you need help on anything.
