  1. The Galaxy S2 isn't going to be End Of Life'd for a loooooooong time. They jut started selling the rest of their stock on their Boost and Virgin prepaid plans. You can see the rest of sprints old 4g wimax lines on their prepaid mvnos as well. But basically, the s2 is still supported and sold by sprint and its subsidiaries. In fact... they're actively working on a JB build for it as we speak... too bad all the leaks are 256 bit aes encrypted.. =\
  2. 1.Yup. There's two different things we're talking about. CDMA 1x-Advanced for Voice on the 800mhz band (better coverage/penetration into buildings & whatnot) and LTE 800mhz for data speeds. 1xA speeds should be consistent but it should be around 100kbps as they don't need much capacity for voice. 2. 800mhz deployment, to my knowledge, will be dependent on area, geography, requirements, etc. They're going to use that low frequency band to cover areas like Vz and ATT. Since 800mhz travels farther and penetrates better than 1900mhz, you don't need it on every tower. If i remember correctly, only about 70-80% of sprint sites are going to have 800mhz up and running with significant overlap etc being the reason that not all sites are going to have it.
  3. More like the suburbs cover more people per tower and would have the greatest effect on customers. When people get home after work, they get leisure time and the first thing they'd probably do is use their phone to play some games or two, check social sites etc while they do what ever. Then you have the kids who have smartphones. Keep the kids happy with their smartphones (downloading apps, streaming music, surfing web etc) = less complaining to parents = less complaints to sprint = sprint -> happy. Then you get the actual city. In my city, these "towers" are on 10+ story buildings out on the edge (or on the side) of the buildings. These are much harder to get to locations than a suburb tower which you can literally park next to and use a crane to do whatever. Can't really do that on these tall buildings easily. Not to mention there's more of them and they will likely only be heavily utilized during the daytime when everyone is at work. Inner city areas usually become quite devoid of people when the business day is over as everyone is going home to the suburbs. So i suppose they're focusing more on the easy spots with the most obvious impact on customers then tackling the inner city areas where there's much harder to reach places. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is just my interpretation. Of course this may not always happen and they'll go to wherever a location is ready so take it with a grain of salt.
  4. Absolutely not. These things are preplanned and scrutinized by dozens if not hundreds of professionals who take into account the local geography, penetration requirements due to buildings etc, local ordnances and rules regarding towers (pita in a lot of areas), etc etc. If they need a tower then they'll get one. Plus sprint has nor tmobile owns no towers. They sold them long ago (tmobile sold em about a month or two ago) and lease it.
  5. If you're talking about the bandaid fixes then it's a waste , sure, but its part of the contract so better now then never. Any help would be useful for those stuck in a pre nv market.
  6. So in essence. Do not expect NV in the central valley (upper/lower) until 2013. Bandaid fixes has actually raised data speeds in some areas around here from sub 100kbps to ~400-500 kbps (usable...barely)... Also the acquisition by SoftBank might speed things up but we won't know unless robert tells us so. It is what it is :]
  7. Most likely Absolutely nothing. Soft is investing in sprint.. They're not doing a hostile take over. If employees are going to be laid off then it most likely the under performing ones.
  8. Bulgogi (Korean pronunciation: [pulɡoɡi]) or neobiani[1] is a Korean dish that usually consists of grilled marinated beef, chicken or pork. It is listed at number 23 on World's 50 most delicious foods readers' poll compiled by CNN Go in 2011 Speaking of which... i have some Jajamyun outside 'nom nom nom'
  9. I'm actually not condescending but in absolute agreement with what you said. To clarify, I'm saying that it appears that they're making progress and other markets around norcal should be starting relatively soon (as in next year in a best case scenario but likely middle to late next year) as this is a good sign of work being done now in my general vicinity. Appreciate your work and what you've done including telling me news about central valley weeks ago. I'm just trying to be optimistic but sorry if I came off badly to you.
  10. Correct me if I'm mistaken but isn't next quarter Jan -> end of march in 2013 or am I misinformed?
  11. It appears that sprint is expanding out of the bay area into the norcal and surrounding markets. (WOOT NV 60 miles away ). Appears that Central Valley should be getting network vision upgrades starting next Q (early - mid round 3) after they're mostly done with vallejo and fairfield.
  12. I've always believed there's one thing that significantly differentiates between Asian companies and Western companies and that one thing is the fact that Western corporations are more concerned about the "now" instead of the future compared to most Asian ones that look at what they can sacrifice now for the benefit of tomorrow. Probably biased because I'm asian but I can nearly guarantee you that SoftBank will do everything in its power to shake things up. ATT and Vz are satisfied with the "now" but sprint has a plan (thanks to hesse) and SoftBank are looking at the future like Hesse and see great things and hence why they're doing what they're doing... I guess its just how we asians tend to be. We're never content with the status quo... (oww don't hit me mom... i only got An A- dammit!)
  13. EHRPD does not indicate NV. It's a software update to allow seamless handoffs between LTE and CDMA 3g. It's been said many times around here that EHRPD does not indicate NV and that many markets already have EHRPD but no actual work being done yet.
