  1. I am on prl 55054. I figured that was the latest PRL and I did not want to fiddle around with profile updates while I was out there. Bad experience in the past. I did look it up and it appears that it is a data roaming area for sprint.

  2. I had an odd thing happen to me the other day. I was on the Outer Banks of North Carolina by the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. I lost all service on my HTC 10 while my wife's A9 was still on LTE and usable. I restarted my phone and still had no connection at all. I was only able to get 1x when I roamed on US Cellular.

  3. I made the mistake of stopping at a sprint store Sunday and played with the HTC 10 [emoji41]

They have it on display? You should have taken a rare pic of an HTC10 in the wild!

  4. I didn't really get an answer.

I took it to the sprint store and they told me the bootloader was corrupt. They were Abel to turn it on bit it was on a bootloader and won't charge.

Did they swap it for you?

  5. My HTC 10 just died.. was on the charger and it never turned on again.

Worst thing is that HTC gave me the worst customer service

    What did they say?

  6. Nobody seems to be getting the gist of what I'm saying. What I'm suggesting is that sprint move everyone on THEIR network to devices capable of using ALL PARTS of their network. 1x devices can access 1xA networks, they just can't access the benefits that 1xA brings. If sprint moves their full network to 1x advanced and puts all of their customers on 1x advanced for voice, the networks capacity will increase tremendously because 99% of usage of the sprint network is by sprint customers, not roaming partners' customers (don't quote me on my numbers that was an estimate to deliver my point). 1x aside, the other point I was trying to make is that sprint should get everyone on their network a device with LTE. Yes 3G cannot be fully shut down because of roaming agreements etc. but it would be great if sprint could thin PCS EVDO down to 1 carrier favoring LTE for data connection (and possibly voice in the future).

That makes sense. However, a wholesale move is probably cost prohibitive. It is far cheaper and easier to allow the devices to age out and then invalidate whatever is left over.

  7. I'm not suggesting a removal of CDMA on the network side by any means. Just a removal of devices that can't access 1x Advanced and/or LTE. This will make the future a lot easier for sprint in terms of moving towards an all LTE (with possibly a bit of 1x Advanced) network. Plus having all 1x Advanced devices will allow sprint to better harness the benefits of 1x Advanced today.

Ah. I think they are doing this in a secondary way. There is another thread that addresses certain phones that will not work on the Sprint network after they realign frequencies. The gist was that these phones were so old that they could not update their prl.

    Found it......http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/7525-certain-phones-wont-work-after-7116/

  8. Sprint has been selling 1xAdvanced devices since 2011 really.  Even the old Wimax devices had 1xAdvanced on them.  To me, I would expect the majority of phones that exist on the Sprint network currently should be 1xAdvanced capable.  I feel that it is time for Sprint to start imploring the full 1xAdvanced capabilities especially for capacity purposes so that more spectrum is freed up for LTE.

This may be an added benefit of purging those handsets that cannot update their prl. Presumably, they do not support 1xAdvanced.

  9. arora had been trying to unload Sprint when he came on board but son was against it.  Sprint is Son's legacy, he does not want to go into the night knowing his job at Sprint is not done.  I bet the 20 billions in cash that Son just got from selling his other investments probably will be used on Sprint.  And he is rightfully so.  just think about it:  Sprint has a lot of potential.  A market of more than 300 millions and growing can more than enough support 4 extremely profitable carriers, think about 5g and fixed wireless etc.  Japan has about 130 millions people and aging and still the 3 national carriers over there are very profitable.

I simply look at the attention that Sprint is suddenly attracting from its competitors. I just saw an internet ad today from Verizon targeted at Sprint customers. This tells me that Sprint is now firmly a threat.

  10. How is the battery life on the HTC 10 now that folks have had them for at least a month? I'm thinking about picking one up...but my biggest concern is battery life.

Battery life is excellent. I am a pretty heavy user and I have nop problem with getting through an entire day. There have been a couple of instances when I forgot my power cord at home and I did not freak out.

  11. Thanks for the example. Here are a few examples I found that are of interest:

    January 2016

    Property Owner:

    AMERICAN TOWERS INC

    PO BOX 723597

    ATLANTA GA 31139-0597

    Contractor:  TOWER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

    Purpose:     TELECOMMUNICATIONS UPGRADE

    Location:     17561 CANBY RD

    Est. Cost:     $25,000

    April 2016

    Property Owner:

    S B A PROPERTIES INC

    8051 CONGRESS AVE STE 100

    BOCA RATON FL 33487-1311

    Contractor: SBA NETWORK SERVICES INC

    Purpose:    TELECOMMUNICATIONS

    Location:    19166 BLUERIDGE MOUNTAIN RD

    Est. Cost:    $15,500

Could these be sites that Sprint (or any other carrier) is leasing?

probably yes. The way I understand it, the cell phone operators have mostly gotten rid of their towers. They now lease from a tower owner such as American Tower or Crown Castle. I think there is a third major one. I am sure someone will chime in if I got any of this wrong.

  12. Ah. I checked my town's website- they let the county handle permits.

AH. I don't know if this helps but this is an example from my town. Most municipalities use similar formats but they may report them differently on their website. Hope this helps.

Archer Lodge Verizon Tower Major Site Plan & Special Use Permit (2016-68-SP & 2016-75-SUP)

Proposal: To install a new 155' monopole tower on Covered Bridge Road.

    Location: 3654 Covered Bridge Road

    Parcel: 4305214

    Applicant: Crown Castle, 864-915-1122

    Project Planner: Haley Hogg,Planner, hhogg@townofclaytonnc.org, 919-553-5002

Status: Proposed. Planning Board- May 23, 6:00 PM, Town Council Work Session- June 20, 6:30 PM, Town Council Hearing- July 18, 6:30 PM

  13. What search terms should I use? Do Sprint or any of the other carriers typically have their name or a contractor's on the permit?  My county posts PDF lists of building permits online. I searched keywords like "sprint", "t mobile", "verizon" and "at&t", but didn't find anything in the permits for this year.

You may also want to check your town. Typically, the county only posts permits for county-owned land, unincorporated parts of the county or specific instances requiring county permitting. The towns/cities often have their own planning/permitting departments.

  14. I got the same problem when roaming on Verizon in East Texas. I can use Text and Calls just fine, but my phone cannot establish a data session. It seems to be a regional thing since 1x Data roaming worked fine in Arizona last month with Verizon.

I have not been able to data roam on Verizon for atleast two years now.

  15. I've stopped pressing the power button accidentally now, although I do still reach to the top for it! Also it's really easy for taking screen shots.
