  1. So, I have had the Bolt for about two weeks now and here are my impressions:

    • The screen is easy to read, even with polarized sunglasses on, and responsive.
    • Battery life blows my HTC 10 out of the water. In all fairness though, my 10 is a year and a half old.
    • The phone itself is pretty smooth.
    • The earpiece could be louder
    • The Bolt is usually a step behind the 10 when it comes to switching between 3g and 4g

I will start checking signal check and compare it to the 10. Overall this is a very good phone especially for five dollars a month!

  2. Sigh, Google is forever misdirected. Google has the potential to be great if they were more streamlined. I give them credit for being innovative such as Google Glass and Project Ara, but Google seems to be forever beta testing everything and seems to just take the approach of throwing a plate of food at a wall and seeing what sticks. Hopefully this decision isn't just another impulsive attempt. I think they could have used Motorola that much sooner and been better than Apple than this back and forth.

On the other hand, I am sure that Google is concerned with the dominance of Samsung for two reasons. One, Samsung has Tizen in its back pocket. The moment that Samsung no longer wants to play ball with Google and they deem it to be profitable for them they will start scaling back Android. Two, Samsungs dominance could have the effect of constraining innovation in the Android arena. If I was Google I would want two or three major players using Android.

  3. I am actually surprised that this has not happened sooner. Cable TV as a stand alone business is a dying model. I also suspect that having to pay for internet access is at least as concerning as the lack of wireless services. Having a financial interest in a Tier one provider can only be a good thing.

  4. Shady? Hardly. They're in the middle of a billion+ $ railway expansion. The issue is over how much Sprint think their share of the relocation costs are.

Share of the relocation costs? That would be 100%. The big issue is if the amount was agreed upon prior to work being done. If not then Sprint will have to prove that the amount that they are suing for is justifiable.

  7. You edited an earlier response to me to remove some of the "emotion."  But you seem to have a giant phone boner for this handset.  If it were cancelled, you would be beside yourself, while other people would say, "Oh well," and move on to a different handset.

    AJ

Really? I wouldn't have know that till now. Thanks for the information.

    Yes I'm being sarcastic.

This just makes your decision even more suspect but alas, it is a free country.

  8.

I know some items do get cancelled after being recalled if it's pretty bad, but my point was that just because this device has a huge problem with the battery doesn't mean it should be cancelled, unless the problem cannot be fixed and or other reasons.

And you do realize that an exploding battery can cause some serious bodily harm and even death right? I would personally want to see what QA improvements they have made before going forward.

  9. They do bring up some points though... What will happen when the 50% off expires? Vzw does have much more reasonable data buckets vs what they had. That is a real possibility; sprint could lose customers simply because the promo is over and in the 2 year waiting period they haven't built out/upgraded enough towers for enough customers to be happy with their service vs vzw.

I do believe sprint should come back with double the data or change the buckets. This time figure out a way to get rid of access fees or drop the prices on them. That would make for great commercial

Sprint will definitley lose customers. the bet is that they can raise ARPU enough to cover the loss of customers and make more money. They can only do that by generating good will with its customers and still being able to make the value proposition. Verizon really has very little room to discount. T-Mo and AT&T have some flexibility so Sprint will have to make sure their plans are competitive with those two..

  10. EVERYONE TAKE COVER...THERES A STORM ON THE HORIZON...IT LOOKS LIKE UPGRADE/ACTIVATION FEES!

But no seriously...the comments are too funny with everyone being mad/deceived about it. Well for me I'm not shocked. T-Mobile and John will start to show themselves more and more as the months go on. John and his board figures millions have bought into their propaganda now let's do what we really want to but mask it up with select wording. Thoughts folks?

As much as I don't like John this is an accepted buisness practice. Entice them in and then jack up the price. Marcelo recently stated that he planned to do the same thing.

  11. I'll add to HTCs build quality. Its a great builder and designer of phones. Their Sense interface is hands down the best. Their only downside is that they always seem to bring up the rear in the rf department, and for me that's the deal breaker. If HTC can get it together and build a streak of strong rf performing phones, then I would buy another HTC.

    Is it reproducible?

  12. Agree, subscriber gains or losses will correlate highly with how their network performs, as it always is for the telecom industry.  We should see more cap ex spending this quarter. They only spent .5 B in the last quarter.

As for the debt load, I think once they get past December, which is when 3 Billion is due i think, it will help out with the interest expense.  They should look into refinance those upcoming maturities since their bond rates have come down to earth.  This would also help with interest expense.

Valid points. However, Sprint will continue to look better when compared to the other three national providors. Much is made about Sprints debt load. However, Verizons debt load is through the roof, especially after their buyout of Yahoo. AT&T has a managable debt load. Not sure about T-Mo but I suspect that they are in the best finacial position to continue the price wars. Verizon must keep their profit margin where it is in order to keep the investors happy.

  13. you don't need to drop it, the OS will stop working or the motherboard will need to be reset. I've had 2 that they had to replace because of it. Needless to say, I moved away from HTC.
