  1. "[M]issing out big time?" Are you asking a question or making an assertion?I think "missing out big time" is an overreaction. Unless Network Vision deployment picks up dramatically, LTE 800 will likely still be a while in coming, and due to SMR 800 MHz spectrum issues, many markets will not get LTE 800 for years, if ever. So, Sprint needs to focus on finishing LTE 1900 rollout before doubling back for LTE 800.As for TD-LTE 2600, that is still under Clearwire's control. We may not see TD-LTE 2600 in any devices until the Sprint-Clearwire-Dish wrangling gets sorted out. Even then, TD-LTE may be limited at first to data only devices (e.g. hotspots, cards/sticks) that tend to use greater amounts of data and can actually take advantage of the higher speeds that the bandwidth of TD-LTE 2600 can offer.AJ

the 800 question for most of us is moot...I'll be happy if I have ANY LTE by the end of the year in my area of OC which likely means I'm at least another year plus from seeing 800 if I'm lucky. The handful that are enjoying LTE now (either officially or not) should be happy. Since the release of the ONE will be around the announcing of the GS4, that's when I'll make the decision but leaning towards the sturdy ONE.

  2. Who's going to be the first carrier to claim the most "streets" or "houses" covered?

ATT claims covers more cities and towns than VZ. VZ claims to cover the most markets...Sprint hasn't fallen prey really other than to make claims about service in markets that aren't really complete.

Maybe NewSprint will make aclaim eventually that they cover "more driveways" than anyone else!

Sprint LTE launch market connection issues

I just found this, its very technical but it shows the values that are taken into account when switching from LTE to EVDO and back. I hope this helps someone find where its located. Looks like were searching for: ThreshServingLowhttp://lteuniversity...-do-to-lte.aspx

my suggestion is to post this info and the question about the signal drop to the 4GLTE forums and see if a dev can dive into this and apply to a custom ROM. My first go to guy for the EVO4GLTE would be mikeyxda as his MeanROM (my 3D daily driver) really dives down into his ROMs and puts out a helluva product. If anybody can unravel it, it's him.

Sprint LTE launch market connection issues

This is hilarious since i literally just popped over from an AC forum post where the user was screaming "I hate this phone and I hate Sprint" because she "got no 4G no more" in Chicago....(RANT)

And then I come the sanctity of sanity here and see this amazingly helpful write-up on possible "why's" and "what to do's"...

You the man. S4GRU 4 LIFE!

  3. I think the frustration felt is warranted in some cases and not in others. If you were "burned" by the WIMAX experiment (as many of us were) and thus paid that premium data fee (I'm not one who still insists it's a "4G" fee) without any consistent access to a premium network to enjoy such premium data AND then jumped out and pre-ordered or bought a new LTE phone at launch then you have NO BUSINESS complaining about a damn thing because YOU KNEW that the network wasn't ready yet (even Sprints advertising for the LTE phones said the network wasn't ready yet).

Most people don't even know sites like this exist. If you know about this site, and read the content, YOU KNOW THE NETWORK WASN'T/ISN'T COMPLETE and should know better than to complain here.

Now if you are complaining on AC or XDA and don't follow S4GRU (shame on you!) then yes, hearing "LTE is LIVE in San Antonio/Houston/Atlanta" or wherever and then flipping your GS3 or EVOLTE to find ..... no 4G ... I'd be screaming too because I didn't know any better.

If you bought a Ferrari with the promise of access to the new autobahn and then found that new autobahn was only in limited areas and then they just said, we're no longer building this autobahn anymore you'd be upset.

If you then bought the McLaren SLR with the promise that you would EVENTUALLY be able to drive on the even better new autobahn, then they said "whoo hooo the new autobahn is open in Houston" only for you to find that the autobahn turned into a school zone in 70% of Houston...you'd be upset.

Now if you read S4GRU and were upset about any of this then you need to learn how to read more better (yes, I said more better) since Robert and the guys here (AJ, Pyro, etc) kick freaking @ss with Sprint knowledge. It's one reason I stick to the development forums at AC and XDA since general is just fraught with whiners that think it's their g-d given RIGHT to have 100mbps downloads on their phone in rural KY or Montana or one of those Dakotas right now, and if they don't then they are leaving Sprint for good this time.

EVO LTE shipments are confirmed delayed

good thing I've got a working ICS ROM on my 3D...I can hold out as long as necessary.

I think they should investigate the people approving these patent claims of Apple's....they should be forced to recuse themselves if they own an iphone (or an android phone for that matter) and only those with BBs or non-smartphones should be allowed to review patent filings for all things smartphone.

  4. My loyalty has been based on cost, which of late is no longer as much of a difference as it once was. With the added "premium data" charges that many (myself included) don't truly enjoy except via WiFi and the paltry 4G network coverage in my home/business area, the shift in the discount structure and overall family shared plan pricing - the massive delta between my Sprint bill and what a similar plan would be on Verizon is now only a few dollars.

With 2 heavy data users, 1 basically only email and maps, and 1 non-smart phone on my plan, I'm paying $30 extra a month now for ... well for what I'm not sure anymore. Unlimited for me is very limited. I average around 6GB on WIFI and under 1GB on network because of limited coverage at home and at my office (roaming in the break room? Really????)

The coverage maps provided by Sprint are so weak that, even though I'm apparently within 2 miles of a 4G tower (guessing based on the coverage gradations) that I still need an Airave in my home to get any signal at all. I left ATT for exactly this reason and I feel stupid for not listening to my neighbors (all loving their Verizon coverage) because Sprint had the phone I'd been wanting - the amazing Samsung Katana.

I'm off contract now on my on line, and will be next year for 2 others. If LTE isn't here (south Orange County) and insanely good - I'm a goner, and my loyalty will be based on what it should be based on - QUALITY SERVICES.

  5. The Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core chip is just a CPU, not a modem. And, for some reason, it is not currently compatible with LTE. So, only the non LTE international version and possibly a non LTE domestic T-Mobile version of the HTC One X utilize the Tegra 3 quad core. The LTE variants coming to AT&T and Sprint use the Qualcomm MSM8960 dual core because it is a CPU + modem that internally supports LTE. And, no, it is not a "spec drop." Please read all comments following the article, as we addressed the quad core vs dual core argument already.AJ

my bad...missed that comment addressing the LTE compatibility issue

I'm likely upgrading to this beast regardless! will be great birthday present to myself if actually hits in June.
