  1. http://www.mooresvilletribune.com/sports/sprint-to-end-nascar-cup-series-sponsorship/article_ba947c2e-6259-5704-b61b-fbb94932b6b7.html I would say this is pretty big as this was a great way for sprint to advertise, but very expensive deal. I wonder who will pick it up.

Anyone actually have one yet? How do you like it? Still on the fence about getting one... Might ask santa...

Wow, that little? I'm truely sorry. I thought it would have been a bit more than that. Thanks for the info. It is interesting some of the inner workings of a store. There were probably 6 employees there at the time and maybe one other customer in the store.

Stopped by a corp store... Even though they show Gear S in stock, they claim not to have any and it's "Direct Ship" They did have a "demo" but it was in a drawer and wasn't charged so couldn't play. Very disappointed. Their excuse is that it's not supposed to go on display until the 14th. Bummer.. I was actually ready to buy it and possibly a Note 4... so they lost out on a pretty good sale.

Did you go by a 3rd party sprint store or a corporate store? When I looked online, only the corporate stores in my areas were showing as in stock. I driving by one this afternoon and debating on stopping and looking.. If I look... I know I'm going to want to buy one.

Anyone get one yet? Curious to any reviews....
  7. The other thing to look at here is if they get rid of the subsidies, there might be better competition from phone manufactures to lower their price points.
  8. In the hardware storage and high end server business, I see this quite a bit with software licensing. Hardware can be sold but the software is a "leased" item and can not be resold. I don't see this going to far, but I could be wrong.

And here I'm thinking I'd replace my work S4 with a Note4 and my personal Iphone5 with Gear S... that might be a pitty.
  11. Web Developer ... heck.. I'll be on to the next project by the time this thing is done so not my problem.
  12. I just pulled the trigger to go to family share and jump the framily plan... hopefully I'll save a few $$ plus adding tethering to all my devices and bigger data pool for my tablets. I think month-to-month usage on all devices is 5 gb.. so shouldn't have any issues staying in the pool On the other hand. I just screwed my framily... 5 devices left them... YIKES! I hope they pay attention and see this other wise... ish...
  13. where have you seen this? between this and the tethering. 5 phones and two tablets, might just make it worth it to switch.
  14. I'll fight tooth and nail the IPv6 transition Long live IPv4! It's way too much a PIA.. but then I don't deal with it on a day to day basis like some do. I know it was made for the long haul, but it's overly complicated. My wife worked with IPv6 on a SNMP product and wow, some of the translation routines were just unmanageable.
  15. Is 52ms a good ping latency for one of these? I'm looking at possibly is one of these for a none profit I work with that uses VoIP over very bad att DSL lines. I'm looking at getting a tower set up to partner with a wisp, but that is 6-9 months out. So it will be a short term solution. But needs to be reasably low latency to handle the VoIP traffic. Thoughts?
  16. Even though it is sad, I don't blame the bonus on the rash of accidents. As Mike Rowe puts it. "Safety Third" There are times when you choose to skip safety for expedience sake. Yes accidents can be avoided, and with the genie lift in the picture, raises questions about what step were skipped, was the ground soft, on a hill, etc? This always brings to mind the video of they guys climbing a 2000ft tower in what looks like a middle of a brewing storm. They don't tether off until the top, It's a long climb which would be longer if reset their tether every few rungs. It's a long drop and they know it, but it's a life they choose and I hope it pays well. Cause at the top. They are places that I'm glad I'm not. Keep safe and carry on!
  17. Yeah, it would be nice to go without, but it is a non-profit business, and have events that request internet access. Yeah, there is one option.. ncren/mcnc who has one of their charters of bringing internet to rural areas. They normally concentrate on Public organizations and got their start supporting network/videos to the universities in NC. I actually used to work for them over a decade ago when they had their supercomputing center. I may ask then and see how they can help, but since we are just a non-profit, and not a public sector group, not sure if they can help. I do like the WISP idea, but clear is not in the area, and not sure if there is anything else in the area. How hard is it to setup a big pipe and sell WISP based service to other houses in the area? There is probably a couple dozen houses with-in a mile. and I know most of them dont' have access to DSL. This is the location that I'm talking about http://goo.gl/maps/X5b0Z
  18. Yes, outside of Clear. Also, I need to have pretty low latency. I have them setup with voip for their phone system.
  19. So instead about bitching about "why hate ISPs" let's talk about working around them? I pretend to be an IT consultant for a historical farm north of Charlotte NC(Huntersville). They are lucky enough to have AT*T DSL so they have two DSL lines and pay what seems like out the a** for them. AT*T has promised that they can get u-verse. Well. This weekend we had our third attempt. This time was far different from the first two, where they line guys came out checked the line and said.. yeah... not going to happen, way too far. Thinking that possibly technologies has improved some in the las 6 months or so, and 7 different folks saying.. yeah no problem! you qualify. The installer comes out and starts ripping out the DSL lines and just goes forward to putting in u-verse. I guess he ran into some problems and Saturday, we had a line repair guy come out and did he best to see what he could do, but the best he could come up with was 9,000 some odd feet(max seems to currently be maybe 3000-3500 ft) and on top of it, the gage of the copper was not going to work even if we were 3000 ft. Thankfully, he got our DSL lines back up and running. Cable is out, as it doesn't come any where near the farm. It's possible we could get u-verse to come some where close (neighboring house) and the do a wireless transmission to the farm house. But it's very wooded area so the poles would have to be very high. The other thing I was thinking about is what it would take to bring in an EIA circuit (if it's even possible) and serve as an mini wireless ISP for the neighbors of the farm, there is a potential for about 10-15 houses that might have some interest to have something somewhat better than DSL(or even dialup in some cases) Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction. Any other possible options? Thanks!
  20. I did a "find co" on the number at dsl reports and it can't find the area code??.. it's 704-999-xxxx if any one is curious.
  21. The number originated with Verizon Wireless (could even have been Alltel even) and then ported to my current VOIP provider. So I'm sure if I called Verizon they would go HUH? we don't have that number... I'm sure they have the block on it, but getting to the right department would probably be a nightmare.
  22. The few that I looked at didn't have a porting eligibility page. It might be possible, but no way to very without ordering is what a couple of them said.
  23. Hrm, that's a thought...yeah.. google doesn't support it.. my guess is that I would need to port it back to verizon and then see where I could port it too... Verizon says it would take 10 days to port..I guess I would activate it on a verizon handset.. pay what ever fees it would take and then see if it could be ported out.. $36 activation fee.. service for how many days??? Porbably $100 for a stupid number. not sure if it's worth it. Just curious what could block porting of a number such as this.
