  1. No QoS like the other 3? That won't be good. Their network is already saturated enough as is in some areas.

     

    Yeah this is concerning; is this confirmed and is there a reason to this? I'm mostly concerned because I've noticed when band 41 gets (really) congested, ping times and uplink suffer, so I imagine this would have negative consequences if VoLTE isn't prioritized.

    Darn. I was hoping it was Sprint and not a fixed wireless Internet provider.

     

    The county's office of education also has WiMax "panels" (if you can call them that) on this tower - they're tiny and mounted right below Verizon's top rack. Click the photo to find them. They provide cheap wireless access to students' homes using that.

     

    I just checked using AntennaSearch and it seems Unwired Broadband is on the nearby water tower with T-Mobile, so I doubt it's them, either.

    T-Mobile announces 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAM. Says the S7 and S7 Edge can use both after a software update.

     

    This is great to see. Should really help them out in some of their congested markets like Chicago. So the S7, S7 Edge, and I assume Note 7 will go from 150 to 400 Mbps on 20x20 band 4 LTE. It's also nice to see that all their LTE cell sites will support 256 QAM by end of October.

  4. I would like to see B25 + B26 CA together on Sprint when the next LTE release is made available.  Unfortunately B26 LTE by itself is way too slow to be optimal and gives customers a very bad impression.

     

    Tmobile does B4 + B12 CA and I think it has worked out well.  I don't know how the propagation characteristics work out when you combine low band and mid band spectrum.  Does the LTE signal have the propagation as if it is low band, mid band or in between?

     

    Propagation depends on the primary band since all upload is currently done on it, and uplink (communication from the phone to the tower) is the weakest link. So if B12 is primary, you get low band signal strength but comparatively slower upload speeds. If B4 is the primary, you get B4 propagation but fast upload speeds. Ideally the network should decide which is best for you, since you don't want to load everyone on B12 otherwise upload speeds will be terrible for all B12 users. A nice advantage is that having B12 as primary can extend B4 propagation since B4 as secondary is only using downlink (communication from the tower to the phone) and the tower obviously transmits a much more powerful signal. 

  5. The modem may be a category 12 capable one but you need to pair it with the capable transceivers.

     

    It is FCC tested and specified specifically to support category 6 which is carrier aggregation of two carriers. This is repeated on every single LG g5 models SAR documentation and testing that was submitted to and certified by the FCC.

  6. Sprint is up to something in Hanford. Past half year it was common to have 1Mbps speed tests (even the SpeedSmart app reported that the average local download speed within 10 miles in past 14 days was 1.X Mbps). This afternoon at 5pm I did a speed test at Home Depot and got the following. Even more impressive, that was on 5x5 band 25. Even during school hours (I live in an area covered by the same sector as the high school) I rarely/ever? go below 3 Mbps anymore.

Sprint is not even close to being ready to launch VoLTE nationwide.  The Sprint LTE network still needs lots and lots of work before even considering VoLTE.  Once Sprint has a tens of thousands of small cells up and running as well as upgrading as many macro sites with all 3 LTE bands can they start to think about VoLTE.

    Basically, Sprint has to deploy enough small cells to cover any LTE coverage gaps to match 3G/1X coverage. There's no fallback with VoLTE and CDMA, so if LTE drops, your call would drop. At a time when their calling reliability is at an all time high with 1X Advanced, they would not want to hurt those numbers. Even with 800MHz LTE in my area, it's still no match for CDMA. Sure it can match/beat EVDO, but not CDMA.

     

    If Sprint does release VoLTE early, I'm sure it'll be opt in. Then people could choose between less reliable VoLTE (with simultaneous voice/data) or more reliable CDMA HD calling.

    LG G3 doesn't support carrier aggregation, so it'll connect to one 20MHz carrier - ideally the fastest one available. So the max it can do is around 80 Mbps, but that would be really rare. Would require tower to not be used. So ideally, if you were using a phone that supports 3xCA, you'd be getting around 100 Mbps, depending on the bandwidth load of the other two 20MHz carriers.

     

    LG G4 can do 20+20 carrier aggregation and LG G5 can do 20+20+20 carrier aggregation.

    And saw band 25+26, 25+41, and 26+41. I remembered a while back Sprint mentioned it was working on getting TD and FD LTE to play nice with each other for CA. Does this mean we'll soon see 25/26+41 CA in the real world?

    I guess my question is, do you think we'll notice any CA involving 25/26? Would be cool to see CA slightly increase the range of band 41 by using 25/26 as the uplink.

  10. There will be no 4x4 on sub 1 GHz frequencies. Size restrictions.

     

    Also there's no confirmation that the note 7 is 4x4 capable hardware wise and certainly has not been advertised by samsung or any of the carriers.

     

    Lastly, no carrier equipment for any vendor on any of the big 4 has been certified for 256QAM. In addition, neither Note 7 or s7/7e was certified for 64QAM upload.

     

    Sprint 8t8r 2.5 equipment can support 4x4 MIMO given UE support.

     

    Sprint PCS equipment may support 4x4 MIMO but will require new radios and antenna sets operating in single mode operations other than dual mode. See Ericsson land with the 4x2 MIMO deployments.

    Great to hear that band 41 8T8R is 4x4 MIMO ready.

     

    For 800MHz, do you mean size restrictions at the tower or the device? If at the tower, can they just add an additional panel?

    Also just because they can broadcast high power doesn't mean they have to. Just like a wifi router, you can set the Tx power at whatever you want given the hardware and government limits. 

     

    Wow! Talk about endless capacity. Rent must be cheap for those poles, then. I was thinking they were going to blast them to somewhat replicate needed band 41 macros to minimize rent costs - but that works for me, too!

  12. Small cells is a category and can include pico cells, femto cells, DAS setups, and "mini macros" which are small cell type units with the power output of a macro radio. 

     

    The Airspan 1000's are low powered pico cells (2x5w) while  Airspan 4000's can be considered "mini macros" as they can do 2x20w like the Nokia Mini Macro 2x20w. So I just named it small cells to cover both types. 

     

    That's good to know. I was only concerned because the person on Reddit said they saw four of these in a three block area, which seems excessive in a town under 20k. 

  13. Is it possible to pay off both our phones that were purchased last year, have them domestic SIM unlocked, and move our phones over to T-Mobile??? I ask this because Sprint does not offer any add on data plan for smart watches and now T-Mobile offers a employee discount of 22%. Thanks
