  1. yeah, that's the ticket, thanks. i never bothered with GV on my mini, it doesn't look so bad on the 6+, even though its obviously never been updated to retina. gv has been on ios for a long time (as the resolution of GV may indicate), and hangouts came out within the same time frame for both android/ios as far as I recall (either right before or after the iphone 6 release I think). While my android still has my main number, I increasingly find myself using the 6+ exclusively and thus tied to hangouts, for better or worse. I lose out on ios facetime/imessage integration though (along with the aforementioned MMS issue), other than for my iphone specific number, but gv/hangouts otherwise works great. Oh, another great benefit of hangouts+gv on ios that is directly related to this thread, is that hangouts can make and receive calls over wifi. (independently of sprints/iphone wifi calling)
  2. yeah, there is one caveat to GV/hangouts on ios, you don't receive SMS (ie picture attachments or multiple recipient sms messages), only txt messages. on my setup, i have my android phone with GV primary number, which is then distributed to all my other devices (iphone/mini2/nexus7/etc), which is all wifi only except the iphone. I can send/receive calls and txt messages from any device, but only my primary phone receives the sms stuff.
  3. ios has both an official google voice app, or you can use hangouts.
  4. you can use google voice on iphone too. also, I realize there is a psychological barrier for many people on txt vs email, but email works reliably over wifi with no need for cellular signal and performs the same function and more (ie text communication). if they are are stuck on using txt only, I believe there is a text to email gateway that can be used. I thought it was posted recently in another thread around here.
  5. Your analogy is wrong. None of those quoted things rely on continuous support from their original manufacturer for the end user to use them. You can, and some people still are, using windows 95, the first iphone, and their 1970 fords. However, you can't simply keep using your wimax service, when your service provider pulls the plug. The same thing happens to your online game, when the game company shuts down their authentication and/or play servers. I've already made my views 'clear' previously, so I won't re-hash them here. There are going to be many of these issues pop up in the future, with OS's, phones, and even cars (which are already starting to connect over mobile back to the manufacturer for various services). What happens when your car won't start because the remote connection fails, either due to the connection service, or because the manufacturer shut down your car's authentication server? The courts will eventually decide this for us, but sooner or later it will become one of the greater issues of our time.
  6. don't know if your open to iphones, but the 6+ has pretty phenomenal battery life in my experience. the 6S+ is supposed to be similar, even though the battery is slightly smaller, if I remember correctly, and the "S" models include the carrier aggregation which can double the possible speed in areas that have that enabled. either way it can last several days with light use, or a whole day+ even with pretty heavy use..
  7. fyi, signal check stuck on waiting for update. tapping will dismiss the notice but screen never updates. on nexus 7/2013 (wifi only), android 6/mra58v you may ask why using it on a wifi tablet, and I would say that it (used to from what I remember) provide easy visibility to wifi access point name, speed and IP information. I have not needed to use to use it recently, so I don't know when it stopped working.
  8. I didn't notice the reduced the # of devices for the neverstop plan, I had just assumed it was 8 like other plan. Does anyone yet know how this works? Cause I have way more than 3 devices that will be connecting at different times/places, and I'm not looking forward to having to manage that kind of bs.
  9. Regarding how many did or didn't have consistent access to wimax on their '4g' phones, I don't think there is any argument that it was large numbers on both sides. Was there ever a reported peak official wimax (phone) subscriber count or 'pops' ? And if so, how does that number compare to the whole subscriber base at the time, ie 50/50% coverage, more/less or what.
  10. Having 3x the coverage is an excellent point. However, I think it is still irrelevant. The network is only bigger now on LTE because clear didn't finish building out Wimax. If Wimax standard had won, then the ostensibly the wimax coverage would now be equal or similar as to the current lte coverage. Regarding capacity/speed, I believe I've already covered that, in that those customers should still have the same/similar service as wimax provided (6-12mbs) and be traffic shaped as necessary to minimize any impact to other customers at the same base station/sector. The sticking point for mc/mb is the material change from an unlimited service with no throttling, to a service with an extremely low cap and extreme throttle rate. I posit that any sane person would be justifiably upset if sprint arbitrarily changed their service from their standard unlimited lte to a 6 gig cap with a 256-512k throttle.
  11. I don't believe that they should or will get any service that isn't an equivalent of wimax service. IE, something very similar to the unlimited hotspot service available *now* to everyone! from karma. Like I've said before, the changing of transport from wimax to LTE should be irrelevant. The resulting service should remain the same as currently provided in as much aspects as reasonably possible. I will draw a parallel that you may or may not agree with. People donated funds to this site and got access to the sponsor forums and the according level of information (~wimax service). Team then later rolled out 'premier sponsor' forums, that required a greater level of financial support than the regular sponsor forums. (~lte service) People who haven't bothered to continue support, still get access to the same level of forums, while those who provided an additional level of support, get an additional level of forums and information. Now, suppose you had to change forums and/or web hosts that affected the information hosted here. I don't think you would require all sponsor level supporters to 're-donate' to re-access the same information now provided on a different forum, would you? No, I think anyone would expect that regardless of the forum hosting, the user levels and privileges associated with them would transfer to the new hosting. Even though the transfer of hosting may involve additional work and costs by the team, that should not materially affect the users (which don't have any choice in the hosting provided).
  12. I'm not sure I understand, those retail customers are relevant to mc/mb customers how? I'm not providing the 'small numbers', mc/mb is; "Mobile Beacon and Mobile Citizen filed the lawsuit last month and claim they serve 429 schools, 61 libraries and 1,820 nonprofits that are dependent on the WiMAX service for Internet access. They claim those schools, libraries and nonprofits collectively serve more than 300,000 customers, many of them low-income individuals and families who have relied on WiMAX service for Internet access." My point is, those 300k customers were not materially affecting other sprint customers on the same network prior to LTE, it is difficult to believe they would cause harm on the vastly superior LTE network, especially with the additional spectrum being switched over to b41 lte.
  13. I doubt we will ever see 4x or 5x, we will simply see additional carriers and the network will assign different users to different carriers to diversify the load.
  14. I think that is an exaggeration of reality. They would still be bound by whatever limits they had for providing wimax service, which obviously did not go without end. Further, if you look at the # of customers cited, that is just a drop in the bucket compared to sprints overall subscribers. And even if the greater coverage of LTE allowed them to bring on more customers (even 'without end') it would still be limited to the non-profits, educational, poor, etc that they are already limited to. In other words, it's not like just anyone an their mother can sign up for these services. This is and was all a big todo about nothing. No one was complaining about these customers on the wimax network prior to LTE coming out (at least publicly) and given the ostensibly more robust and awesome network combined with the additional spectrum made available by wimax shutdown, there should be little for anyone on any side to complain about.
  15. The towers and network are still obviously up, however now my clear spot is redirecting to home.clear (no internet) so I would guess it is just a matter of time before anyone else with still active service will get shut down. It is my opinion that was probably the plan all along, I don't think we were going to see all the towers just drop at midnight, just the service, regardless of the lawsuit. clear devices will continue to be able to connect to the towers, then get redirected to the clear captive portal which redirect the browser to your clear account page. I'm sure sooner or later the towers will be disabled though (depending how the lawsuit goes), it's just a matter of time.
  16. as of this morning, my hub express is down but my clearspot is working on the clear account page, the hub express was asking for payment but yet not showing any valid data plan. I tried a payment of 50 but didn't change anything except now i have a 50 credit lol the clear spot account is showing normally weird.
  17. I would agree with Robert, that all non mc/mb customers service will be disabled, even if the actual towers are still working. I can hope that they would just leave everyone that is still active, working to milk any extra revenue during the court thing, but I guess we will find out in a few hours. Both of my clear devices will remain turned on until they shut the towers down or otherwise disable them.
  18. Karma now offering 5mbs unlimited lte hotspot @ $50 There isn't any reason why sprint couldn't offer similar service to mb/mc, or even offer it directly from sprint.
  19. Karma now offers unlimited lte hotspot plan, $50 for ~5 meg speed https://yourkarma.com/store
  20. yes, by submitting such assertions and allegations of "Abusive or hateful, then for reasons of Bullying or harassment " as if you have all the facts when you don't, you're acting like a nosy neighbor inserting yourself into someone else's business without all the facts from either side. You have no idea what has transpired between sprint and these companies and whether or not it is sprint that is unjustly or unfairly damaging the other company or vice versa. No one here could possibly know unless they are directly involved with the involved companies communications. but carry on!
  21. And of course you have all the facts from both sides to make such assertions.
  22. the unlimited 2g sounds like a good plan for those who want it. I hope the 2g is usable though, nothing worse than putting yourself on a capped plan, then getting throttled down to an unusable 2g speed. Also, I can still see the sprint haters saying 'how awesome now you can get unlimited 2g on sprints already super slow lte network!'
  23. @ robert, if they set them up like an mnvo, I don't see why they couldn't partition or otherwise separate and manage the traffic, much like sprints own mnvo's and various roaming agreements have differing network management.
