  1. With AT&T deploying boutique spectrum in band 29 supplemental downlink and band 30, you will not be able to use most any unlocked handset -- or you will be missing out on a lot of spectrum bandwidth. It will vary from market to market, even site to site, but AT&T is having a hard time keeping pace with usage on more standard bands. If you want the best experience on AT&T, you likely will be limited to AT&T destined handset variants.

    Just FYI...

Yep, that settles it. Thanks to you all, I will be going with Verizon [emoji25] until Sprint finishes deployment in Westchester. I will keep checking in here for more info. I will be back for that CA B41 goodness. [emoji1]

  2. Verizon.

Great voice network, LTE network, and now that they have launched band 4 LTE, speeds have improved dramatically and provides more capacity.

At&t is about $10 cheaper and their service is also great but one thing I enjoy about Verizon is VoLTE. It's amazing call quality and at&t has yet to announce when they will be launching VoLTE in NYC.

I'm leaning towards Verizon because they have a cell site on the roof of the building I moved into. The only thing holding me back is that AT&T has better plans and you can pretty much use any unlocked GSM phones, but im not sure how the capacity stacks up against Verizon's.

  3. Recently moved to Mamaroneck, NY and I'm contemplating switching to VZ or AT. Sprint service is great in the Bx and most of Manhattan, but in Westchester I'm on 3G about 70% of the time. I got faith Sprint will improve B41 coverage here soon but not sure when. If anyone in here were to switch to another carrier, which one would you choose and why.

  4. It seems like the Nexus 6 will only be back on the GPlay store site after carrier's launch it. This may or may not diminish the reason to buy a Nexus device. Carriers add their own software spin, and it may not be able to be used on other carriers. I like having the Nexus 5 because of fast updates, and the fact that I have a Tmobile Sim should I ever want to use it, or even an AT&T Sims which would never happen, but I at least had those options.

Will a play store Nexus be able to be used on all Us carriers including Verizon, and would a carrier Nexus 6 be locked to carriers as when launched back in the old Galaxy Nexus lines?

I believe that the success of G Play activation's by carrier subscribers made the carriers pressure Google to raise the price, because the Play store sold 32gig Nexus 5 for the price that the carriers sold 16 gb versions, and they now want to get a piece of the pie.

I don't believe carrier's can add their own software spin to nexus devices. It goes against what the nexus program is all about pure android and android development. It would not be pure anymore if carriers put in their own bloatware.

There is a big difference between carrier branded devices and devices sold by carriers.

  5. oh its stated it is triband but its not going to be compatible with a certain frequency that is "hyped up"?

I was once in your shoes until i gotta tri-band device. Now I'm enjoying the great speeds band 41 has to offer. So go ahead and get that note 4, or better yet wait a few weeks for the Nexus 6 [emoji6].

  6. In some elevators and deep inside certain places it will drop, but in everyday typical use, my phone switches back to LTE almost instantaneously. They are definitely optimizing everyday...

Also, I still have a Nexus 5 in the family, it really cant compare to the performance of the G3 in terms of scan times.

I agree. My wife has the G3 and its definitely faster latching on to LTE from 3G.
  7. One thing I must say, I no longer drop to 3G. I haven't seen 3G in quite a while in either the Bronx or Manhattan.

Thats great, but i can't say the same for me. I still drop to 3G inside my house and fringe low signal areas like basements and building staircases. Beginning to thinks its a nexus 5 scanning problem or B26 has not been optimized around my areas. I don't see much of B26 now that i think about it.
  8. I know I posted a few months ago something to the effect that the Nexus 5 will have by far the greatest longevity yet of any Sprint LTE handset. Its tri band capability and RF prowess -- not to mention, price -- will keep it relevant for an unusually long time. Screen, processor, and RAM will be surpassed, but those specs have since reached the point of diminishing returns, have entered the realm of "specsmanship."

I already have too many handsets, including a white Nexus 5. Yet, I am still tempted to add a red Nexus 5 at some point.

I agree. But pertaining to the network and the N5's RF performance, what would make you upgrade? What should we be we waiting for?
