  1. This alone is what would make me no longer consider an HTC device. The new Nokia brand devices from HMD are interesting but of course they do not work on Sprint. :(

My wife does. I really wish someone at HTC did too, so they might support it still.

I wish they still made metal phones. Realllllyyyy wish for this, actually. Loved the One series all the way through the Bolt.

  3. This wont matter, Sprint has not (and likely will not) add WiFi calling to the HTC 10

That is my biggest concern about going with an HTC phone on Sprint at this point. I'm just not sure Sprint will be supporting them for much longer. HTC's strategy this year seems to be a direct model for their branded devices and OEM for everything else (like the Pixel).

  4. In most cases it's not even lower.

Indeed. And I can vouch for at least Central Virginia when I say Verizon Wireless service sucks. There are so many people using Verizon here that the network literally crawls unless you are using it very, very late in the evening or very, very early in the morning. I continue to test it on a somewhat regular basis and my results have been rather consistent. It'll only get worse as more people pile on!

  5. I'm literally lol. Have been too busy with work recently to post, but I do lurk. You people leaving for Verizon are too funny. Verizon is still Verizon. Don't think for a second you won't be royally f*cked at some point soon. I love how Sprint service was sufficient and then somehow magically wasn't as soon as Verizon brought back unlimited data at what may be a very slightly lower price for some of us.

  6. I've had all 4 carriers. Sprint is a distant 4th and it's not even close. T-Mobile blows them away in my area (Baltimore). Sprint is very slow plus T-Mobile and AT&T have HSPA+ as a fallback network, which is a better technology and faster than CDMA (14.4 Mbps minimum max speed vs 3 Mbps). Verizon is CDMA also but they have the biggest LTE network.

4 years into the LTE transition, it's unacceptable to be falling back to CDMA constantly in populated areas. Sprint is the only carrier that this happens to.

Not to re-dredge an aging conversation, but my Sprint service in Baltimore has been stellar. Harbor area, port area, even out to BWI.

  7. It's normally under settings - battery and screen would normally show up. Clicking on screen should say time on.

Thanks! I found it. Let me let it run down a bit....just took it off the charger. I'll post later today and let you know kinda where it's at.

  8. What kind of screen on time do you get with the phone? I've been thinking about the Bolt since its part of the black friday deal and is 50% off next week and would also be looking to replace my aging Nexus 5.

This is going to sound insanely silly...where is this setting located now in Android?

  9. What kind of batter life are you getting, and what were you expecting?

Does it last at least a day ?

I'm thinking of steering my parents towards the bolt, they both currently have nexus 5's which while still usable, are starting to show their age.

I'll work this backwards....first off, if your parents are using Nexii 5, the Bolt is going to be a superb choice for them. Comparatively speaking, the battery life on the Bolt is worlds better than the Nexus 5. Actually, as a phone it blows the Nexus 5 out of the water in every category. Seriously. Your parents would be ecstatic.

Feel in hand is a lot like the iPhone 6/6S Plus.

I'm comparing battery life anecdotally to the LG V20 and iPhone 7 Plus - I get significantly less time (2-3 hours less) per charge on the Bolt than the other two devices with very similar usage patterns. For a "normal" user, the Bolt would probably last all day. I run businesses from my phone and consume a lot of media, so I think my daily usage is probably significantly above average. Not to mention I am rarely on WiFi simply because the places where I work often don't have it.

So, to sum....compared to other modern smartphones that are similarly sized and equipped (like the LG V20 and the iPhone 7 Plus), the Bolt is just not quite up to bar from a battery life standpoint. But for the average user, I doubt it'd be noticeable and I suspect the phone would still last a day for the "average" user. Further, the Bolt's many other attributes far and away make up for slightly reduced battery life. I've been very  pleasantly surprised by this one, and I was already a raving HTC fan.

Hope this helps and it's not just a bunch of rambling. I've had 1.5 hrs of sleep over the past 50 hours.   :w00t:  :twitch:

  10. So a few days later....this really is a wonderful device. My only complaints are the SD810 and the rather abysmal battery life. I can live with both of those, as the very existence of the Bolt gives me hope HTC will focus on big-screen devices in the future.

  11. Can someone tell me what the "speculation" is that has caused the stock to rise to $7.50 yesterday? Thanks!

It's still based on politics, really. Folks assume a "conservative"-controlled government (after January, all three houses of government, mind you) will go easier on M&A activity. What they're not considering is that Trump is not a traditional conservative and at least his stated views on M&A tend to lean more liberal than anything...i.e., he does not look favorably on consolidation of big players in a market.

  12. So the Bolt is a truly fantastic device. Ditched my V20 for it, in fact. Have had it less than 24 hours and love everything except for the battery life which is, frankly, abysmal. I am hoping this gets better as Android "settles down" and I am using the phone more normally. Realistically, I suspect the sh!tty SD810 is probably driving some of this, as the phone can heat up a bit. Stupid choice, HTC. But other than that, this one is an easy winner - and still a great device even with an 810 inside.

  13. I'm going to give this one a try. I have been waiting for about 3 years now for another large-screen HTC device. Hopefully, they've learned how to manage the SD810 and if so, I look forward to a pretty cool experience.

  14. Yes, but why now this sudden price surge; indeed makes me tempted to sell.   :o

The election. The market is expecting a "conservative" (whatever that means anymore) government to be more open to large-scale M&A activity. That's why T-Mobile is also up a bit today.

  15. Sorry you had this experience, Arysyn. I am absolutely loving my V20 - not experiencing any of these issues. It sounds like LG has a quality control issue in manufacturing they need to work out. Perhaps later runs of this model will not have this defect.

  16. In my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, Sprint is outperforming every other network here in the Richmond, VA area. Was just at our state fair this past weekend and my new iPhone 7 was working great - texting, voice calls, data on the ready when needed (ok, let's be honest - wanted). Other family members there (all on AT&T) had data that performed intermittently, at the very best.

I've had similar, recent experiences with Verizon and T-Mobile users,

So in my book, Sprint is already the best in my area based on my usage. (I should note I also still have active accounts with the other 3 top carriers that I test on my own from time to time.) I don't travel much anymore (at least for the moment), so Sprint is perfect for me.

I don't know whether this will hold true on a nationwide basis within the next 6-8 months, but if my local area is any indication I can see where Sprint will at least give the others a very significant run for their money.

  17. Sprint Global Roaming is no longer showing up as an option to add when I try to modify my account online, only Open World shows up. I was still able to get it added via chat (I had switched to Open World when traveling to Canada, but I was trying to switch to Global Roaming before my Europe trip).

My understanding is that you either have Global Roaming (this is the default option), or Open World. So if you deactivate Open World, your account automatically reverts to Global Roaming. Someone may want to fact-check me on this but that is my understanding after my last conversation with Sprint in regards to this.

  18. You should have stopped at "Sprint has never reported their profitability by service plan."  So many factors.  Even more so if you go down to the individual or location level. A lot depends on how you allocate your overhead costs.

That was my point. :) One could skew this however he or she wants because not all of the facts are present. Likewise, one cannot claim that the ED plans were profitable as there is absolutely no evidence of this and nothing to support the assertion.
