  1. I don't see how this is relevant. Your network experience doesn't instantly change if they merge.

You are indeed correct. Likely nothing will change in the short term. But I believe tmobile's pricing to be better than Sprint's for now. And pricing would likely be the first thing to change in a merger I believe.

Once network vision is done, Sprint will blow them out the water on data coverage though

  2. That's your private code, you need to edit and remove that picture unless you aren't planning to use it!

Yes, please take out your code!

Back on topic, I am ready to order this phone..but i have a bit of trepidation because of the way the EvoLTE handles LTE signals (or the lack thereof). Im usually ready to throw my phone in the trash when using a 3g signal..

  3. Sprint's only real fault here are those coverage maps on the site...take those down or get them right tower by tower that comes online, and you shut this super critical judgement down.

I came in here to say this, but you beat me to it. It actually seems a bit disingenuous to me; why advertise what the network will become in a year or so rather than advertise what is currently up? To pull in unsuspecting customers, of course. Problem with that is the fallout associated with not having service where it was promised leaves a very bad stigma in my opinion.

  4. Funny, ive found the 5 to be excellent signal wise. There was only once where I as in an LTE area and had to toggle to get it. It holds on to LTE admirably, and has greatly raised my experience with (usually quite crappy) sprint data.

When im on 3g though, its a completely different story...

  5. Yeah I knew that, it was more about the signal bars... my earlier post was wrong about the bars displaying the CDMA 1X signal strength, they display the current signal strength for whatever connection is active so when LTE is active it is showing you LTE strength, even though in the background it's CDMA 1X connection is far stronger. It only shows that signal strength when it switches over to CDMA to make a voice call.

That sounds like a good feature that i wish android phones had. Actually i think they should go back to the days where there were 2 signal strength indicators, that would be much more useful in my opinion.

  6. So it turns out that (according to the verge) the cdma versions of i5 will not be able to use data and voice at the same time, regardless of 3g or 4g. One user on the apple forum explained why this may be the case; in order to save on space and battery consumption, apple (foolishly) opted for a single radio for the modem. So although the 9615 seems to support every modern relevant protocol we would use, It appears that only one mode can be active at a time.

Quite simply, that is trash in my opinion...we should be moving forward, not backward.

  7. It's not just the chipset that has to support SVDO, the phone itself will have to support it with a separate receive/transmit path for EVDO and 1x voice. It does have SVDO capabilities between 1x and LTE.

You are right. I just hope that even if HD voice is not supported, SVDO is, because all of sprints new LTE hands support it.

  8. I'm on my phone, so I am unable to fully research what phones had the chip, but here is the article from 2009 regarding ARM starting work on the 32nm process. http://www.computerw...smartphone_chip

It states that production would have chips in smartphone models by late 2010. Apple has the power to exert their economy of scale on this and actually innovate, but they would rather let others push the innovation, call them buggy junk, and then use the tech quietly after everyone has moved to better, newer tech. That's why they are so secretive about names. Don't call it what it really is... old exynos, call it A6 and don't give any details.

Samsung had just unveiled its orion core at the END of 2010, which was later used in the GSII. 2010 was the year of the Galaxy s1 (epic 4g) , Evo 4g, Droid X, etc. They were nowhere near shipping a 32nm product...from what i remember most were still on 65nm.

Innovation with regards to a smaller process would be folly at this point, because TSMC and quite possibly Global Foundries is having much trouble with the 28nm process volume. (http://www.extremete...en-to-jump-ship) And thats just for Nvidia and Qualcomm...A company with the volume demands of Apple would definitely lose money if faced with delays because the process margins were low.

I highly doubt they could claim the 2x performance jump by simply using a rebranded Exynos. Thats pretty much impossible without doubling the clock speed, which would drain the battery exponentially.

  9. 32nm process dual core processor, LTE radios, 4 inch screen, exclusion of NFC, 1GB RAM. I probably missed some more, but this was all on phones in 2010 and we are being sold on it as "new and revolutionary"

Please show me a phone that had 32nm instead of 45nm in 2010, because i do not believe there was one. Hell, the galaxy s2 Exynos 4 was built on 45nm, so i dunno where you are getting that.

Whether the phone was required to have a 4 inch screen or not is subjective. I would prefer larger, but that is not evidence of obsolescence.

On the LTE front, the LTE modems before the one that is integrated in the S4 were very power hungry. Iphones are known for good battery life, so using the tech before it was less power hungry would be the antithesis to what they have already accomplished with battery life. The 9615 is just not becoming available, so it was prime time to integrate the tech.

  10.

I have looked and looked but cannot find in the FCC filings any clear indication of SVDO capability. Take that for what you will.

    AJ

In my opinion, it would be kind of retarded if it didn't, seeing as how the mdm9615 is the most advanced lte modem on the market.

They also posted on engadget that a sprint spokesperson stated that it won't be compatible with HD voice because its HD voice implementation uses wcdma and the iPhone doesn't have 1xa...but this statement is also retarded to me, because it seems the 9615 can do EVERYTHING except wimax...
