  1. I got an email today about an early upgrade offer with $50 service credit. It says the offer is good for two of my three lines (all are on framily), one which is still under contract until November and the other that just finished the contract in January. Fine print says $50 service credit applied within 2-3 invoices.

  2. I used to have router problems all the time; constantly needing to be power-cycled, dead WAN connection, etc.. I went and bought an AirPort Express 2 years ago, and haven't touched it since. It's crazy how well Apple routers work. They're the best, in my opinion.

Apple routers are nice, but with him only having problems with devices running on iOS 8 it makes me wonder if there is an underlying bug that isn't playing nice with his router firmware/hardware. I've dealt with similar problems over the years with a few different devices (windows, android, game consoles etc). With all the endless combinations of equipment and software versions out its bound to happen.

It depends on the area, but I know for a fact that when I'm home, my phone more often than not uses 1x800 for voice calls, rather than 1900. Coverage is really good in my area, but the network dictates what band to use.

I don't know how it works with incoming/outgoing eCSFB calls from LTE, its something I've wondered about for a while. However when on CDMA (no LTE coverage, svlte device, phone in 3g mode etc), the prl is used, not the network. The prl is a list of technologies by area that let's the phone know what to scan for. Its why you'll get more evdo roaming on corporate accounts, since you get a different prl that allows it.

  4. They're subsidized in that the customer isn't paying $600ish that Sprint or VZW or ATT pays Samsung or Apple for the device. It is fairly obvious that Sprint ATT VZW are marking up the devices which should push more people away from buying them from those companies. If cellphones were a digital item they'd be pirated more than movies and music. The consumers lose when dealing with monopolies.

If that was the case, why are unlocked unbranded phones still about the same price?

  5. I didn't mention anything about custom PRLs due to the OP stating that he wasn't sure about flashing a custom PRL. I am stating that stock PRLs prioritize 1900 over 800. ;)

Ahh sorry. I must have misread. Its been a while since I looked at the stock prl, but I thought 1900 and 800 are the same but I could be mistaken.

No you can not disable 1x 1900 like you can with Sprint's LTE bands, your device will always prioritize the 1900 band over because its the primary band for voice.

Incorrect. Many use custom prls to prioritize 800 over 1900. Personally, I use one to prioritize my airave over the macro network. On some devices you can even force the radio to use smr only, but I don't recommend doing it unless you are 100% sure you know how to reverse it.

  7. Does anyone know if its possible to disable 1x1900 voice so my phone will always use 1x800? I was able to disable 1900 LTE and that has helped a lot. I wouldn't want to do this but 1900 doesn't work well in my area and i consistently have poor service but have a good 1x800 signal available and my phone works great on the occasion it uses the 1x800 signal.

You could use a custom prl that prioritizes 800 over 1900.

Thumbs up to them for having water resistant phones I think that's cool, but I've never liked the phones itself and touchwiz is terrible. I always said that if I ever decided to switch to Android I would get HTC phone or a Nexus.

I love the HTC One both M7 & M8. They're just beautiful, I partially like it because it reminds me so much of the iPhone with its aluminum elegance lol. And I'd get a Nexus because it's as close to stock Android that you can get.

No need to get a nexus for aosp, you can get the best of both worlds. M8 with stock android, if that's what you really wanted. I have the GPE port on my dads M8 just so I can troubleshoot with him easier since I haven't used sense in a while.

Sprint Launches “Best Buy One Plan” – Unlimited Talk, Text and Data, Plus Your Phone – for One Low Price; Available Only at Best Buy

Lease an iPhone 6 16GB including unlimited talk, text and data while on the Sprint network, at $65 per month (excluding taxes and fees) for two years

Unless I'm missing something, this is just $5 cheaper than the regular iPhone for life plan, and Samsung galaxy s5 option while the lg g3 option has no savings over the regular plan.

It most certainly will work the same way. Apple wouldn't allow a wifi calling app for Sprint iPhones if it's baked into the OS. Plus, aren't Sprint and T-Mobile already using the same service for their android wifi calling? The name is escaping me right now, but I think it starts with a "T."

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm sure it will appear to function the same, but they do not work the same way.

  11. It only requires a carrier bundle upgrade to enable it. It's baked into the operating system already and just needs to be turned on. I just put a T-Mobile sim into my phone to test my unlock, and voila, I had the wifi calling option enabled along with VoLTE enabled as well.

I wonder if that will be the case for sprint WiFi calling. T-Mobile WiFi calling is set up differently than sprints. I don't remember the page but it was discussed in the T-Mobile network thread. It might be why its not available yet.

  12. I'm considering it too...but I've never done a tablet on my cell plan before...are they waiving the tablet access fee, and you're required to hold like a 1gb data plan for the term? I'm considering this since I'm pretty safe to say I'll be in an LG phone for the next 2 years at minimum.

(Really depends on the LG G4 I guess before I can say for sure, I'm seeing some rumors that the S810 chip just sucks and Qualcomm is trying to run damage control to cover up how bad the 810 will suck (lag, overheating and playing nicely with GPUs)

You can add a tablet with its own data bucket, or add it to a data share plan. I'm not sure, but I think they are waiving the tablet access fee on data share through 2015. After that its $10.
  13. I'll agree to disagree :)

Honestly I think it would not be an issue if Sprint had trained people on it. Again Sprint doesn't have to much of the work here... I mean if AT&T, VZW, and other international carriers know what Apple requires - So should Sprint. The date should have little to do with since Sprint has known for almost a year... in fact they should have known ever since they carried the iPhone.

I guess if Cricket wasn't offering that amazing deal currently I wouldn't be in such a hurry.

Maybe the problem is on Apple's end. They are unique with their activation server. Sprint has been able to handle unlocked phones on their network for over a year, the better question is why apple didn't make them all unlocked from the get go with one north american SKU. Google was able to do it, so should apple.

  14.

why? Because some people might want off of this train wreck, might want to sell a device, might not understand why this didn't happen earlier - especially since Sprint doesn't have to do much.

but hey I know its not a public forum so my apologies delayed.

drama aside -- it would be nice to be able to reuse your device on another carrier.... does that seem fair?

Pretty much yes to all of your questions. I want my device unlocked so that I can sell it for probably $100 more than as it sits right now. I want to sell my plus, and almost be able to buy 2 regulars (one for my wife). Is that so wrong? They implemented a policy and they're not abiding by it. Don't say the 19th if you aren't ready on the 19th. You have to understand that. There are users on this forum who have paid full price, and rightly deserve this unlock. It's hard to talk about Sprint's flaws without coming off like a rant. We'll try harder, I guess.

Hounding them on day one and then complaining about everything not going well isn't going to help. Both of you knew you were buying a phone that was originally locked when you purchased it, if you wanted an unlocked device you should have chosen one. This thread reminds me of the nexus 5 launch and people flipping out because they weren't being given Sim cards and some imei's weren't in the database right away. Give it a little time and let them have the chance to make it right, if they don't then you have the right to complain. This is a big change for the company, and with any big change its not expected to be smooth sailing right off the start.

  15. Does the Google wallet work automatically when tapping the terminal, without hassle, and without error? Hovering my thumb over the fingerprint scanner with the screen off while tapping the reader couldn't be any easier. A blind monkey could do it. If I had to unlock my phone, find the app, activate nfc, and then enter the card password, all while standing there with a line of people behind me, I would never use it, and neither would the majority of people.

    Sent from my iPhone 6+

Yes, it does. Though the phone does need to be unlocked, but I don't really see that being any different than using the fingerprint reader. The physical wallet card (optional, but free) is also an added touch when dealing with merchants that don't accept NFC, with the added benefit of not ever being required to carry my debit or credit cards. Also being able to send/request money via gmail/wallet similar to PayPal. It stores all loyalty and gift cards you have and will alert you of nearby merchants and automatically pull up a notification showing a scannable barcode (depending on your location settings you choose).

There is one thing I would say apple pay may have over wallet, is that wallet does need to be unlocked via pin. I have my time out setting at 24 hours, after that it will continue to work, even without a data connection and without needing to open the app.

The thing I like most about apple pay becoming popular though, is I do see it helping with NFC payment adoption. That and people don't look at me weird anymore when I tap and pay with my phone.
