  1. Nice writeup Jeff. I consider myself a very loyal customer, but loyalty goes both ways. I still shop at a small hardware store vs. the big retailers because the small hardware store returns my loyalty. I am still loyal to Sprint, I was with them for 10+ years, but the loyalty has to go both ways. The network in my area was broken, data was crawling. I was met with two choices, downgrade to a (gasp) dumb phone until network vision came through or go to a carrier who had reinvested in their network and could offer me smartphone functionality. It killed me to leave Sprint, but I was addicted to my smartphone. Now it is up to Verizon to win over my loyalty or I will most likely go back to sprint for another 10+ years when my contract is up. (Verizon is currently doing an absolutely horrible job of inspiring any loyalty in me)

Loyalty does go both ways and I think thats why I am still with sprint after 10+ years myself. I can only speak for myself when I say this but customer service is more important to me than what I pay in monthly service. Everytime I look at att or verizon I always get a little sticker shock but in reality I always ask myself if they will treat me the same way sprint did. Now don't get me wrong I have had my issues with sprint but in the end they have always exceeded my expectations every single time. While being with sprint I have also had att and tmobile service and for me personally my experience with them was laughable compared to my experience with sprint, I have never had any service with verizon so I can't speak for them.

I have never been this frustrated with sprint ever with the sudden increase of dropped calls and crappy data but sprint has earned my loyalty over the years, they really have. So at this point I think I am comfortable showing my loyalty to them(all depends on how NV performs of course), mainly with the help of S4GRU, LOL.

  2. Yeah but if it is anything like what the Photon has I wouldn't need to root it anyway. I can take out all of my built in apps if I want so there goes that need there. Other than a custom PRL I don't really feel the need to get ICS right now. It wasn't as much of a jump as it was a polish job on this most recent build. I did root my old Hero but that was to get to a high enough version to be able to run things like Netflix. I was going to be left with 2.1 as my only option. And why would I worry about my data usage in ICS if I am on Sprint. Unlimited.

Rooting isn't for everyone, in your situation you may want a couple of apps gone and that may be fine with you but for someone like me and many others, we want the ultimate freedom and control in doing whatever we want to our phones. There are custom roms, custom kernels, free tethering, titanium backup, not to mention the numerous apps that require root access. I know one thing is for certain, I don't care how awesome the specs are on any particular phone/tablet, if it can't be rooted then I am not interested.

  3. Name doesn't matter too much when 90% or more of new smartphones sold on Sprint are iPhones ;-)

In this particular case I think it does matter. The evo was the biggest thing since slice bread for sprint and even though the iphone may be the hottest thing going now there are many extremely satisfied owners of the og evo that will have a renewal coming up. I think it would be very important to Sprint and especially HTC to name this phone "Evo Whatever" to retain those customers. The iphone isn't the answer to everyones which smartphone to get question, there are many out there that wants to continue to have that android experience. I am more than confident that whatever they decide to call it, it will have the evo name somewhere in it.

  4. The evo name is way more recognizable and more valuable than the one series. If anything, instead of HTC going with the "One Series" of devices they should have went with the "Evo Series" of devices. Yes, I am sure some people would be upset since the name is exclusively used by sprint(in the U.S.) but from a business standpoint thats what HTC should have gone with.

Anyway the og evo is what really started this evolution(pun intended) of 4g large screen devices and with so many evo contracts coming to a close in the next several months Sprint would be wise to keep that brand or name recognition. I don't know what sprint will call this next HTC device but from a business standpoint it better have the evo name somewhere in there. As far as another manufacturer using the evo name, thats just sacrilege, LOL.

  5. I think carriers should make both options available. However, I'd prefer to pay a little more up front and reduce the recurring monthly fees.

I am 110% with you on this Ben, it should be optional and I think its a win win for both the customer and the carrier. I would definitely pay a little more up front to reduce my monthly fees in the long term.

S4GRU Resident "Geek" on the new iPad

You can tell the difference, and it is not like ATT changing their 3g logo to 4g on the 4s.

I guess this part is in response to what I said. I wasn't talking about whether there are actual differences or not, I am just talking about marketing terms specifically. Marketing terms grab attention away from the competition so even though at&t changed the symbol from H+ to 4g, most users will probably swear that their service was suddenly upgraded when in reality it wasn't. AT&T can market their iphone 4s as the only 4g version available. which gives them an advantage over verizon and sprint.

As far as the display on the new ipad, quite frankly its friggin amazing. I was stunned when I saw how beautiful it was and I hope the competition comes out with tablets with similar resolutions soon enough and guess what, when that happens most consumers will still think that the ipad is better because of the term "retina" display versus ultra hd screen or whatever the competition will call it.

S4GRU Resident "Geek" on the new iPad

Sorry bro, but the term "retina" display is all marketing. nothing more nothing less. This is just another example of how apple distinguishes its products from the competition. No different than at&t updating iphones to show 4g instead of H+ on the top of the screen. I have seen so many people with iphones 4s running around talking about how at&t unlocked 4g on the phone when its the same damn hspa+ they always had. Its all marketing while trying to be different from the next guy.

  6. every carrier should atleast have an option for unlimited. i get that they are stubborn but give us options, cuttings us off at 5gb because that is the HIGHEST you offer is BS, what happens if i go past that? there isn't even an option for me to buy more then that, its complete monopoly

Carriers do give the customer options but unfortunately they aren't the options we want. The reality is these carriers are here to make money and to be as profitable as possible and if customers are willing to pay these kind of insane prices for data then the carriers will continue to charge for it.

  7. Well this is a slap in the face and I've already sent engadget a "tip" with my complaint...Here is their article:http://www.engadget....tion-april-4th/Where they state in an UPDATE that "TECHNOBUFFALO" has it on good authority saying its going to be the OneX code name "Jet"!!!!WTF! Whats worse is Engadget ran their own report earlier this week using S4GRU.com saying the same thing....yet now with the invitation out they give credit to another site for it being a OneX variant named Jet...

Don't get too worked up over engadget, that site has done down hill considerably over the last few years.

  8. The question is "When will we see the Samsung Galaxy Note?" a much better phone than the Galaxy Nexus.

The galaxy note is nice but realistically it may just be a little too big for some. I played with one the other day and personally, comparing the two phones with basically everything else being the same I would go with the nexus before the note. I just don't think I am ready for a 5.3 inch screen as yet.

  9. Im glad to see Sprints updating my area with 4G LTE but whats the deal with there phones? I just got a Photon 4G last weekend and Im reading lots of things that its wimax only. Can anyone confirm this? Ive read Sprint has no LTE phones yet and Ive read someone tested the Photon 4G from Sprint with a Verizon LTE sim card and connected to Verizons' LTE towers. I live right in between 2 of those towers in the Worcester area and work near another in Aubrun but I cant connect to 4G.

Wow, I don't know what site you were at to read such a thing so I will say this, just hang out here and you will have any question you can think of answered accurately and timely.
