  1. They are planning on using PCS for LTE also and iphone 5, for example, already supports Band 2 (PCS). I think the AWS gained will, as AJ said, give them scale in terms of equipment purchases, but PCS is not any less valuable for LTE than AWS long term. Short-term, AWS is more valuable because it's not being used for HSPA.
  2. Son already said he's not gonna broadcast his plans. We'll know of his plans when the product is introduced.
  3. ATT is not gonna "work something out" eith anyone unless it's forced by the FCC or DOJ.
  4. Indoor speeds will be augmented with small cells but not in residential where people have wifi so they don't need LTE. It's not practical to expect wireless to replace wired broadband; the physics just don't allow it. I have a Comcast 50mbps connection - most of the time lol - while a single sector of Sprint's current 5x5 LTE provides 30 Mbps. So if everyone in my house is on Sprint LTE -streaming - instead of my wifi, that Sprint sector that is supposed to service 100 people is now being taken up by a few people streaming. All carriers assume that people in residentially are mostly on wifi. The situation is different in a commercial zone like a mall, stadium, etc. There, every carrier will deploy small cells and Distributed Antenna Systems not so everyone can stream but because so many people being covered by only 1-2 macro cells will result in total network paralysis even if no one is streaming. And in situations where everyone at a stadium is streaming the same thing, carriers can use LTE-broadcast to consolidate all those streams (of the exact same video source) to one stream.
  5. That's what's possibly gonna happen anyway: FCC might force ATT to divest some PCS. Someone mentioned ATT might require that if Sprint buys PCS, they have to host the CDMA customers.
  6. Then why did Sprint focus SOOO much energy on PTT? Cause they were desperately hanging on to customers? Total guess but I think Son would rather they lose every PTT customer than have to invest a penny more in PTT (beyond what's already planned for NV). Meaning, again a total guess, Son won't be investing in any LTE-PTT solution.
  7. Now USCC is a different beast, right? No way FCC would let ATT or VZW buy them. Definitely it's inevitable that Sprint will buy them. Also, they should think about Cspire.
  8. At least in one year they will but lying about this was completely pointless. What average consumer will even remember how fast TMO's demo was when they think about which carrier's LTE to buy? They'll go to the stores and run speedtests - or not - and they'll buy service based on price and a commercial.
  9. Do you think any PCS divestitures would be required? And would FCC allow Verizon to participate to outbid Sprint? Sprint may have missed out on the Leap purchase but 10 MHz PCS in each market makes for a fine consolation prize.
  10. Where can we find the "top x markets" without having to ask you? Or a spreadsheet would also be good.
  11. My opinion: they're going to deploy TD-LTE not only on EVERY NV tower but on as many additional towers to make 2.5 GHz ubiquitous, at least outdoors. Softy's claim to fame in Japan is 2.5 GHz and there have been SOOOO many quotes from Son that wireless is too slow here. 2 + 2 = 2.5 GHz
  12. Well TMO doesn't have PTT and Verizon ... I haven't ready anything about them being aggressive with PTT and Nextel customers so who else is getting them?
  13. I hope TMO gets shamed publicly but not fined millions.
  14. This is huge. We now have a concrete example of Legere being not just bombastic but a liar in his representation of TMO's service. Yes, everyone fudges coverage maps but at least they have those asterisks: "may be totally exaggerated". But using 10x10 spectrum of another carrier and then passing that off as representative of your service is a new low.
  15. Given your contacts, I just assumed you knew at least one guy who moved their company's Nextel accounts to ATT and why. Is it possible the fact that ATT PTT works over HSPA+ and LTE would have been a factor in ATT's success?
  16. Why does it matter if Direct Connect is available on roaming?
  17. It's a calculus that TMO has erred in greatly
  18. Maybe Sprint should take a page from Dish's play book and overbid ATT by 10-15% just to force ATT to spend more money lol.
  19. Interesting they made that comment about Detroit cause you can go to sensorly and see the LTE.
  20. The exclusion zones are real as are the interference concerns. I remember reading a PDF that ATT submitted to the FCC with graphs detailing the interference channel 51 would cause to their B,C blocks but I can't find it just now. And it is the FCC's mess: they knew about the Channel 51 interference and they still auctioned off the A-block. In retrospect, looks like it would've better to not auction it at all. Also, US cellular already has launched a Samsung Galaxy smartphone with band 12 so it seems it is possible to get Band 12 devices.
  21. They don't like it because it's technically inferior or why?
  22. You don't think it'd be a good thing for TMO to remain independent? I view TMO as someone potent enough to keep the other 3 honest, just like AMD is to Intel. Even if their coverage never goes past 228 mil, I still think they'd be useful to keep prices low.
  23. Isn't this moot with daddy Soft-bucks? Sprint doesn't need TMO anymore to bulk up.
  24. There's a loophole: they can the entire stake at once and privately.
