  1. Hmm. Info on the LTE Airave equivalents and when they're gonna fix the GMOs. But I think we all know the answer to the latter. And I might ask about the network chain of command at Sprint.
  2. I was wondering if they were going to deploy the small cells with WiMAX-ish frequency re-use. Cool stuff. Should allow for some pretty insane power output on standalone small cells (like Mobilitie units far away from others). Edit: so this means that small cells will be using the same frequencies as carriers 4-6 on ultra-high-capacity 8T8R macros, right? So as long as no such monster macros are nearby they can use the otherwise unused channels? That's how I interpreted it.
  3. Oops. I assumed it was a generic term that was just usually used to reference that specific tech. Fixed.
  4. Simultaneous voice and data works great through third party apps. As atrocious as Snapchat is as an app coded by a financially successful corporate entity (it consistently crashes on anything with less than a Snapdragon 810 with 4GB of RAM when you go to take a photo or try to use the UI as intended), it works well for me as a high (voice) quality VOIP solution that just about all of my peers use. And I can browse the web while in call.
  5. I think the point is to get people in/near the stores and aware of the brand. I don't think they're going into this expecting a ton of people to walk in and buy phones and a plan on the spot, but they probably expect it to increase brand awareness and get people window shopping.
  6. Wow! Super cool that he enjoyed the last one enough to do another one. I wonder if he has any big announcements he'll make during the AMA? And I really hope this becomes a regular thing.
  7. Super nice to have the yellow-orange combo back. I always thought that looked pretty decent. And even cooler that they made it really easy to hunt out 3G/4G extended when they didn't necessarily have to.
  8. Man. This just keeps getting better. Kudos to Marcelo for sticking to his guns on this. It's really paying off.
  9. Nope. It's a new board in my old housing. Same back plate and midframe. I can tell based on some scratches around the sim slot and camera I made. And the repair form says they just dropped in a new board. And they didn't move an image over. I had to do new device setup. Not that it would've mattered; I OEM locked it/erased it before I sent it.
  10. Wooooooow. They managed to scratch my screen too. Stay classy, LG. There's a little s-shaped scrape about an inch down from the top speaker grille. That seriously grinds my gears. But at this point there's essentially nothing I can do about it. I didn't take pictures of it before I sent it in. Don't think I'll ever buy anything LG again.
  11. Welp it's here. They just swapped the board. Housing is the same as what I sent them. (There are some new nicks around the camera bump. I was very careful to avoid such scratches during my year of owning the phone. ) They really must be out of parts for this thing because they used an OG Nexus 5 screen protector which only covers about seven eights of the glass instead of a factory 5X one. It hasn't started bootlooping on me, so I guess I just have to use it and try not to worry about it dying on me again. The reddit thread I made asking about the cause indicated it was LG's infamous bad solder, but I still worry that all units were affected. They didn't resolder my board like they have for some people; they just popped in a new one. Edit: there's actually a new 1 inch vertical scratch halfway between the logo and the right side of the phone. Booooooooooo. And Sprint's activation system is broken again. Woohoo live chats.
  12. /wince Snapdragon 410? Well, I guess it'd be a step up from the unnamed 1.2Ghz dual core in the Viper. I actually forgot about the cheaper motos. Thanks for the heads-up. Really hoping I won't need to get one though.
  13. I will if I can, but I don't have enough $$$ lying around to pick up another phone and I don't think they'll let me get the refund unless the problem is happening when I initiate the request. And I'm really getting sick of this Viper. It all depends on what's in the box tomorrow.
  14. No prob. I always keep those kind of things. Everyone calls me crazy but they usually end up coming in handy. The more I read over at the 5x subreddit the more worried I get. It's starting to look like the problem was present through the entire year or so of manufacturing and no boards are safe.
  15. http://imgur.com/a/cFHK2 Hope this is enough. I assumed you went through Google because you got a statement from a human being. Up until I emailed LG the entire process was automated for me. Did you do live chat? Well that sucks. I've been happier with this phone than any previous device, and none of Sprint's current offerings meet my minimum criteria. I must've gotten one of the last boards. Unless they sent me a G4 or something. That'll be a weird surprise tomorrow if so. I really don't know what I'll do if that's the case, or the replacement doesn't work. I guess I'd have to find a used M9 or something. The ~$400 I'd get from a refund wouldn't get me anything decent currently sold by Sprint.
  16. I got lucky. I contacted LG on what I'm pretty sure was either the last day of my warranty or the day before. I hope you have a better experience with Google's CS than I did with LG's.
  17. Good luck. Took em a month to fix mine. They just told me today it's shipped out due here by Friday. I'm really surprised this isn't getting more press attention on the android fan sites because it looks like a pretty decent percentage of units are affected and IMO LG is NOT handling this well. I've had to RMA LG, HTC, and Motorola devices, and LG is the only OEM that hasn't offered to send a temporary loaner phone. Which normally wouldn't bother me, but apparently they don't keep enough stock of their own parts on hand and it took them a month to get a new motherboard to fix my phone.
  18. Seeing as it's been a month since my 5X abruptly died on me (3 weeks since LG received it from me) and LG still hasn't fixed it, I sent them an email yesterday asking for a loaner device or a full refund. We'll see what happens.
  19. Well that's awesome! I've never bothered checking the PCS licenses outside of their advertised footprint. I've always felt so lucky to be able to pseudo-native-roam on them. They're definitely not a haphazard build-out-so-you-can-sell-out-to-a-national-carrier company. Their service consistency inside their footprint is way better than Sprint's within Charlotte, and they have to deal with mountains. At least in my experience.
  20. No idea who that could be east of Charlotte other than USCC. That area is decidedly outside of Carolina West's footprint unless they're expanding undercover into McDowell and Rutherford counties. Which would be a pretty big deal for them given they currently cover ten out of NC's 100 counties. Never mind it IS Carolina West. See below.
  21. 'Bout time. Future CWW LTE roaming was announced a very long time ago. Now that I think about it, if Sprint knew which sites CWW was eventually launching LTE on back during the 8T8R rollout that could explain why Sprint chose such odd sites to install 8T8Rs on (to avoid naming any specific locations *cough* App State area *cough*) up in the parts of western NC I visit somewhat regularly.
  22. As far as I've heard, his potential attitude toward such a merger is a total wildcard. You'd think that given his party he would be in favor, but both companies are foreigner-controlled which would probably influence his decision. How much? Not sure.
  23. I'll put in some more tomorrow. But it's not going to be enough to push past the minimum.
  24. Good news. The seller accepted the return. So now I'll be using a 2013 Nexus 7 until LG tells me what's gonna happen with my 5X.
