[UPDATE 2] [Teaser] Is S4GRU 5X certain that this is the new Nexus 5X?
in The Wall
A group blog by The Wall Editors in General
No, technically, it is a Category 9 modem. The Snapdragon X10 LTE baseband on die on the Snapdragon 808 chipset is inherently Category 9. But as implemented with a single RF transceiver upstream, it is limited to Category 6.
AJ
Ahh. Oh well. I'll probably still get one.

Sooo despite packing an 808 it's still only got a cat 6 UE? No cat 9 X10 modem?
I'll probably get it regardless since it'll probably be the most powerful "small" (never thought I'd be describing a nearly-phablet class phone as small) phone released for a long time.

Columbus, 8640. The Age of 10 MHz FDD Discovery.

But my understanding from the Columbus tracking group is that the GCI of the 10 MHz FDD carrier is the same as that of the previous 5 MHz FDD carrier. And that may have been the intent. Moving it completely would have required a new GCI.
AJ
Ahh, so this could be a FIT of sorts for widening the original G block carrier to 10x10. I can't think of any other reason for them to risk issues with the original G block carrier instead of using C4+C5, leaving the G carrier untouched.

Great article! Definitely worth the wait.
So Sprint is indeed expanding the original carrier into PCS C5 where possible? Awesome! I was mildly worried that they would have to keep the original PCS G carrier at 5x5 for one reason or another into the far future, even where they held PCS C5 as well. Great to know it's flexible.
Edit: I wonder why they didn't just put the 10x10 in PCS C4+C5 and leave the carrier in G running. Maybe they're specifically testing widening of the original PCS G 5x5?

Overall size will be about halfway in between the 2014 Moto X and the Nexus 6, so take that into consideration. And tested RF performance looks average to good, just not outstanding. We did not have time to cover those issues in this teaser article, so we may run a follow up. More likely, though, we will discuss them in greater detail in a dedicated thread in The Forums.
AJ
Ack! Maybe not then. The original X size was perfect, and it would have been a no-brainer for me if it had Spark.

I'm actually pretty excited for this. It's either this thing or the Nexus 5 2015 for me.

Take Two! Sprint offers BYOD for Apple Devices
in The Wall

The Verizon model supports B25 & B26, but not B41: https://www.apple.com/iphone-6/specs/
But the Sprint model fully supports Verizon. Sprint gets screwed again. Apple could have put Verizon and Sprint on the same exact model.
It sucks, and is probably the reason Sprint has never been open to unlocking. Unless they are legally required to include B41 and BC10, Sprint will always be comparatively screwed in this department by the other three while most Sprint phones will work fine on them.

Sweet. I doubt they will (they advertise current Spark max speeds as 60mbps when we know it's more like 90) but they could theoretically advertise being the first carrier to get 200+mbps speeds.

Aww. Oh well. Still looks awesome!
But I'm not giving up my N5's outrageous band support any time soon.

Will LTE service on Rural Roaming Preferred Program partner networks be native coverage for Sprint customers?

They might also be happy to be referred to as Appalachian State, since "ASU" de facto means Arizona State -- one of the largest universities by enrollment in the entire country.
AJ
Several alumni that I know call it ASU, so that's what I always call it. I guess it's a bit trollish.

Hells yeah! I was really worried that Carolina West couldn't participate due to LTEiRA, so this is great news! I'm sure that the ASU students will be happy to have LTE for the first time.

Why did they release a new model if the old one is practically the same? Lol
"What's the frequency, Kenneth?" Sprint and AT&T tango to trade PCS frequencies.

Awesome article! So I gather the plan is shifting from "get a second 5x5 up where we can" to "swap for C5 and widen the existing 5x5 to a 10x10 where we can"? Does this mean we may see some markets become 10x10-only? I can think of some cases where Sprint could squeeze in an extra couple of CDMA carriers with a contiguous 30Mhz vs a non-contiguous 30Mhz with two 5x5s if I'm doing my math right. And that could make all the difference in some markets.
