The DVR restriction on Fiber TV is pretty common for cable companies. It's much easier to stream something that is stored on the cloud than it is to stream something that is stored in your living room. Charter, Mediacom, and AT&T (when I had them last) want you to use each channels individual app as well.

    Same thing with Cox

  2. After installing the Nougat update, is anybody having the issue of the phone not staying on wifi while the screen is off?  I have already checked the setting where for staying on wifi while sleep, but that setting is set to have it stay on.

Did this problem ever get resolved?

  3. Physically speaking, I dont see any SIM slot, but some people are saying that the SIM could be hidden behind a sticker or a compartment/case protected by screws, etc.  If not at all, it would be good to know if this particular phone at least has a functional GSM radio that can be use to assist the phone to roam on GSM based network when offshore for people who would like to at least take advantage of some type of roaming features.  This is exactly what Verizon did with their CDMA Galaxy S3 variant, they released an update that enables GSM to work offshore so that their customers can be able to roam on GSM international networks makes extra money on roaming fees, etc.  Just figuring out if Sprint did the same thing, since Samsung had confirmed that they only released one Galaxy S3 for the US, and all variants had the same type of technical abilities, just that depending on the carrier some might have its GSM radio active/CDMA disabled while others might have CDMA active and POSSIBLY GSM active only for international roaming uses (this is what I am trying to figure out in the case of Sprint) just like Verizon did.

For those still using a Galaxy S3 it would be good to know if this particular phone at least has a functional GSM radio that can be use to assist the phone to roam on GSM based network for domestic 911 calls -- if Verizon sunsets CDMA in a couple of years.

  4. USCC didn't actually show as "Roaming+". The colors were really similar, so it would be easy to confuse, but it was actually shown as 3G Roaming vs. "Nationwide" roaming. I'll see if I have a screenshot.

    Edit: Here's the screenshot.

Thanks, I still wonder if PRL 55052 removes EVDO roaming since the current coverage map no longer shows it and it's not listed on the speeds chart.

  5. USCC was EVDO roaming, but it counted as off network usage. It was never considered "Roaming+" or "Extended." The 3G & More map correctly shows USCC coverage as off network roaming. You'll just get EVDO in that area, whereas in many Verizon roaming areas you'll still be on 1x.

USCC LTE roaming still shows, but that's a different map.

I wish I'd saved a screenshot of the previous version of the "3G & More map.  I thought it was strange that USCC EVDO showed as Roaming+ (pseudonative) but USCC LTE was roaming -- this would allow people to put their phones in CDMA mode and avoid the roaming data cap, albeit with slower speeds.

This page indicates "Off Network Roaming" is all 1x: http://shop2.sprint.com/en/stores/popups/compare_data_speeds_popup.shtml

There isn't a category listed for EVDO non-Extended roaming.

A PRL update seems to have caused the problem so it is only natural thinking that another PRL update will fix it. I have experienced the same thing ever since I got PRL 55051 and no, it is not that Verizon's CDMA network has become decrepit in my area for my Verizon hotspot works fine on CDMA. I don't really know what the problem is but it sure seems like it was that 55051 PRL update.

It started with PRL 55051 as you say.

Whether it was caused by the PRL 55051 update or merely coincidental timing, right after my phone updated to PRL 55051 I lost all roaming (voice/text/data) on I-35 north of Mason City, IA to around the first rest area in MN and in the "I-90 gap" in Sprint service between Austin and the Rochester turnoff.  After a call to Sprint customer service eventually voice/text roaming came back, then later on 1x data, so I suspect authentication issues.  Also note that according to Sprint's coverage map I-35 north of Mason City is supposed to have native Sprint EVDO all the way to the Minnesota border but my phone has always switched to roaming or no service by time I pass by the Diamond Jo casino (Exit 214).

  7. No, you are overestimating users.  Most will just see the "R" on screen and believe they are roaming.  Many will even have roaming data disabled -- because they do not know how to enable or fear roaming charges.

    AJ

Time will tell.  I wonder how many users you're underestimating -- especially those who are members of S4GRU.

  8. We drove through Austin about a month ago, heading to Rochester. I really didn't have an issue until around 5 miles outside the city.

All the towers in Albert Lea, Waseca, Owatonna, Mankato, Fairbault and Rochester have 800mhz

radios, that why I was shocked that Austin didn't. It seems like a perfect place to use

800mhz service. I wonder why they don't have them installed?

Apparently this issue isn't completely resolved.  When I stopped at the westbound rest area east of Austin a couple of weeks ago I had no service.

  9. That may be the point. Keep users on their toes.  Make them think that they may be drawing from their 100/300 MB roaming quota, even if they are not.  That helps prevent abuse of pseudo native service.

That may be one way to look at it.  Another way is it adds confusion to managing use of my roaming quota.  I wonder how many people will check the coverage map, think they are in a Roaming + area, then burn through regular roaming minutes.

Not providing users a clear way to know what type of coverage they're using seems like a way to generate a lot of unhappy calls to customer service when roaming caps are inadvertently reached.

  10. However, Roaming+ is under Nationwide Sprint Network and has EVDO roaming

Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk

If this is the case, it may have been clearer to leave the 3G Off-network Roaming color the same and add a 3G Off-network Roaming + category with a new paler color.  That way you'd easily be able to tell if the Roaming + is 3G or 1x.

  11. it's been back to crappy 400-700 kbps for more than 2 months now.

Be careful what you complain about.  I'd be happy to get 400-700 kbps -- where I live I'm lucky to hit 100 kbps during the day,  Often it's 50 kbps or less.  Northwest of town where I spend many weekends just got the 1x to 3G Network Vision upgrade, so I'm looking forward to the Network Vision speeds at home too.

  12. My phone's current PRL is 21097.  SprintZone on my Epic 4G Touch says a PRL update is available to go to 21090.

What's the difference between these PRLs?

When the PRL version number goes down, is the update a new PRL or moving back to an old PRL?

  13. According to the map the voice coverage becomes roaming hut the data coverage remains native Sprint. It'll be much like Verizon. Verizon roams in terms of voice, buy they retain native LTE service.

That sucks, but honestly it doesn't look like they lose much in the way of 'native' coverage.

That map of Alaska in the lower right has to be wrong. Why would Sprint retain pseudo-native data coverage, but not voice? If anything, I'd think it would be the opposite. The "Sprint data coverage" areas after October 1 are marked with a lighter shade of purple than either the legend or the before map, which indicates to me that that is an error.

Both "After" maps appear to have errors.

The legend of the "After" voice coverage map says data rather than voice.

If you look closely at the "After" map for data the purple appears slightly lighter than in the "Before" map.  On coverage.sprint.com the slightly lighter purple indicates 3g roaming (check out northwestern Kansas using coverage.sprint.com's "Filter by 3g and more link" as an example).  So I think the "After" map legend should say 3g roaming instead of Sprint 3g.

  14. Was notified of this change in my latest bill:

    http://support.sprint.com/support/article/Learn_more_about_GPS_Navigation_service_changes/7a563fd2-da7b-4a1b-bfcf-179c3fb20572?ECID=vanity:navsupport

Some navigation service is ending, some will require you to start paying, etc.

Looks like Sprint is continuing the trend of providing less content and evolving toward becoming a data pipe only.  What a change from the pre-Android and iPhone days...

  15. June 4th April 12th Type Version Description

    21097    21096      LTE  IL-LTE

21096 was and now 21097 (both labeled Type = IL-LTE) is used for the WiMax GS2.  Why Sprint would list them as LTE when they're also using them to add BC10 to a WiMax phone?
