  1. LOVE the scrolling widget bar in the pull down menu. Camera seems VERY quick too.

One thing I did notice is I was trying to find an option to turn on 4g and I could not find it. It wasnt in the drop down menu or settings.

You won't find it like the WiMax 4G, its a phone setting, not a toggle. If you have 4G on, it will automatically connect when LTE signal is available and disconnect when LTE signal is not available.

  2. I believe we are getting closer to NV deployment in my area (Carol Stream/Bloomingdale area). I recently went to costco (bloomingdale) and I was waiting in line so I did a speed test and voila! 1500 kbs up and 700 kbs down. However, my house (which is 2 miles away from costco) in Carol Stream is a little bit slower which ranges from 500-600 kbs and 43 up is still in development.

I work in Carol Stream and travel between there and Glendale Heights for work on a regular basis. NV has to be completed and active in the bloomingdale area, the speeds and even my signal strength (including building penetration) have been so much better in the past month. I don't think Carol Stream and Wheaton area are completed yet.

  3. Best Buy is only carrying 16gb versions and I have hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. So... 16 gig it is (unfortunately).

I saw no reason to get a 32GB when I have such a large collection of microSD cards from all the smartphones I have owned.

  4. Quick update: my upgrade eligibility got moved up to 6/1/12. Just ordered the SIII (32GB, Blue). Fingers crossed, hoping it gets to me on launch day :)

Just got back from the Sprint store, did the same thing, $50 fee and they moved up my eligibility, pre-ordered mine before I made this post. Who's one happy camper.....this guy. :tu:

Wouldn't it make more sense to do the opposite? Since you pay approximately $20 per month in subsidies when you are on contract, you still pay that when you complete your contract. Sprint doesn't lower your bill $20 per month when you go month to month. You just don't get the $20 per month benefit.

It makes more sense in my mind to get the new device now on contract, and then next year buy the next device cash outright in the middle of your contract. You will save approximately $240 per line per year doing that (and it will help pay for the next device).

The only reason where it makes sense to do it the way you describe is if: A.) you know you won't be able to afford a new device cash price next year and you can now, or B.) you need to keep your options open and may leave to another carrier and not wanting to be committed to Sprint for another 24 months.

It's not likely that next year's devices will be more expensive. Cash price has not gone up much the past two years. That's my two cents, for what it's worth.

Robert, thanks for your advice, It really REALLY helped with my decision.

  5. Because of this: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-166-sprint-battling-network-vision-deployment-woes-in-the-windy-city/ They are having to speed up NV deployment in Chicago and doing NV upgrades in advance of backhaul being ready. Robert via Kindle Fire using Forum Runner

They're losing customers in this market left and right because of that. Financially it makes sense do hold off on backhauling. I guess my comments are just my verbal form of frustration.

I missed that before. Thank you - that article is extremely insightful... and unfortunately quite discouraging.

Not that discouraging, Sprint recognized that they had a problem.....and they sped up NV deployment to take care of the problem. Great move on their part IMO.

  6. Not all live sites in Chicago have upgraded backhaul yet. They would likely have bypassed the sites that weren't ready in normal circumstances. But since they are having the dropped connections problem between legacy Motorola sites and new Samsung NV sites, they are expediting Chicago ASAP and coming back and hooking up backhaul later.

I just received a NV Completed Sites update and there were 50 sites completed in Chicago last week. 50!!! So backhaul is now a lower priority in Chicago. They will be coming back and connecting them as the backhaul vendor is ready at each site.

They are FLYING through Chicago, I'm very very impressed with the speed in which they are doing these NV installations.

Also, if the backhauling comment is true, I won't have LTE out in DeKalb where I live until after LTE is live in Chicago and backhauling is completed...

  7. I've noticed a huge 3G speed difference between the suburbs and far west suburbs. For example, I work in Carol Stream, 3G speeds are fantastic, and the towers by me are NV completed according to the map. I live in DeKalb, 3G speeds are mediocre at best. The entire town is NV completed according to the map. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it possible they just haven't updated the fiber lines to the cabinets? I know its not over capacity, DeKalb is a college town, but its summer.... Just hoping out loud that it doesn't stay this way....

  8. Anyways I ended up waiting till today and getting the Evo but I bought it from best buy. The guy there told me up front he didn't know anything about phones but was willing to help the mobile department because there were so may people there. Took longer then normal but he got me all setup. I was his 1st ever phone activation.

Wow, I rarely receive that level of customer service at ANY Best Buy I go to.

  9. I always have to psych myself up before I go into a Sprint store. With the way you can get information on the internet these days, it just shows you how lazy consumers are. Listening to conversations, you can tell that NOBODY educates themselves before they go to make a purchase. I will say that there customer service 800 line has improved significantly....Just pray you don't have to call outside of normal business hours...lol

  10. Robert can you tell what's scheduled to be done on these sites in the near future NY60XC155, NY05XC315

Sprint tells me upgrades are to be performed on June 14. I can't even complete a speed test when in the vicinity of these towers.

    Thanks.

Furthermore greg, if you have noticed an HUGE increase in dropped calls, data not working right (which it sounds like you have) thats usually a sign that upgrades are currently being done in your area. These conditions will last about 2 weeks or until upgrades are completed in your area.
