    This is after 3 hours of 1 bar low signal and constantly switching to roaming with 50% brightness.

     

    All in all...I have to say given the size of the screen....the battery life is pretty damn good.

    When I have my Viper in CDMA/LTE it heats up faster and drains the battery like crazy. Of course lately my battery life has declined significantly since it got hot outside. :(

     

    Plus the Viper runs on Android 2.3 ......

    Strange, I couldn't edit my post. I was going to add that I did confirm that the S3 comes in CDMA (evdo) mode stock. Your only option for enabling the LTE radio is to change in the mobile networks settings to CDMA/LTE. Then the optimizer will enable LTE when there is a signal present.

     

    Funny the manual tells you to enable the CDMA/LTE mode when there is a signal present. Most people won't know unless maybe they are at home or work and test it. I'm wondering how much power is consumed by staying in CDMA/LTE mode at all times, hoping I might find an LTE signal. Feeback for Samsung/Sprint will be, " I want the option to control my 4G radio"

     

    I'm currently testing this today, but I also am running full screen brightness. I can tell you the battery life is better than expected. I could upload a screenshot of this, but to my surprise, Samsung still has not built in a stock way to capture a screen shot. And if they have, I have not found it yet.

    Close enough for me' date=' now if there are no bugs I am leaning way towards Sammy....I like the build and display of the EVO, with HD voice and all but two gig o ram and 1.9 FF camera gets at me......rofl. My problem is can I pre order when my upgrade isn't until 7/01/2012[/quote']

     

    Go to a Sprint Corporate store. With your upgrade date being that close they shouldnt give you any problems with an early upgrade at no additional cost. If they do, call customer service.

    At a Sprint corporate store my Photon had -65 while the EVO 4G LTE displayed -79

     

    Anandtech review showed that the wifi is weak on the GSIII

    How I wish Sprint would send my handset !

    I have all accessories and no phone.

    I know this. I'm going to try updating my PRL and profile at home instead of work.....for some reason that seemed to help with my OG EPIC.

     

    And I always have full signal at home........thank you AirRave......

    One thing to consider when digesting these dBm readings is that the antenna output being measured is the Rx level from the legacy 3G/CDMA network. The device has a separate antenna configuration for LTE use' date=' with two Rx antennas, that no one is able to test today. I think I recall reports here on S4GRU that the EVO LTE model, which has its own separate, LTE-specific antenna layout, also showed some unexplained weakness in initial Rx measurements using the legacy network.

     

    So maybe this generation of LTE-enabled Sprint handsets is optimized for the next-generation NV Sprint network, rather than for the network we are all using today.[/quote']

     

    This is a great point. I was using CDMA only. I will switch and try it a different way on Monday. I just assumed that the CDMA/LTE radio would drain the battery quicker because it would always be searching for an LTE signal....

    And your old Epic 4G was typically 3 bars or better in the same location? (That would correspond to -91 dBm or better on my reference scale.)

     

    If that is so' date=' it's hard to swallow the new GS3's antenna underperforming the antenna on its own grandfather phone by about 10 dB. (The antenna output is what you theoretically are measuring so far, assuming no change in the Sprint network's RF performance.)

     

    I really do hope that when Robert gets his unit, he will follow through with his suggestion to do some controlled comparison tests. I also hope for something that puts the phones through end-to-end performance testing of some kind, not just antenna output readings, that exercises the Tx/Rx functionality of the radio.[/quote']

     

    I dont know about under performing......I work for the Home Depot....and those buildings are cellular signal black holes. The antenna performs amazingly everywhere else.

    Got an email this morning from Sprint telling me what I already knew: Samsung is having issues getting enough SGIII's and mine will be arriving sometime next week.
