T-Mobile knocks Sprint out when it comes to data in Houston. I was rarely ever on Band 41 and was stuck using one of the two 5 Mhz B25 carriers (No B25 carrier aggregation when I left). Compare that to T-Mobile's 10x10 B2 and 20x20 B4. Day and night difference

As far as voice, I'm not sure VoLTE will ever be as reliable as 1xRTT. I've used Verizon and T-Mobile and I've had more issues with calls on both carriers than I ever had with post-NV Sprint. Having said that, VoLTE is the way of the future. While it has it's issues, you really can't beat the voice quality. It's way better than Sprint's version of "HD Voice" and simultaneous Voice + Data is very convenient.

VoLTE isn't live in Houston yet on Sprint?

I want to start seeing three cameras on the back of the new galaxy phones coming out in the future when that happens I’ll gladly get one and when they start offering a legitimate wide-angle lens like the iPhone and LG offers then I will gladly come back.

I would love to be able to afford an unlocked phone but running over $1000 that’s way too expensive

I'm able to get it down to ~819 by taking advantage of the right promotions.  Sell the headphones for another $100 and it's at 719.  Sell my current device and it gets even lower.  Having said this, I'll probably wait for the S10.

  4. There is a huge dead spot on Benedict canyon, starting just south of Hutton for about a mile or so towards sunset..  I've reported it to Sprint but no changes.   Seems to have started at the beginning of May when the construction started.   It was solid before that.

If they allowed BYOD, I might switch to Spectrum Mobile when my free year with Sprint is up at the end of the month because $45 for unlimited with a single line isn't a bad deal. I guess they won't be getting my money.

I think Sprint is rumored to have a $70.00 plan coming up, with a $20.00 discount for BYOD.  Assuming I understand it correctly, that is $50.00 before tax for unlimited with HD video and they won't slow your speeds until you use over 50GB.  This $45.00 plan is limited to 480p and will slow you after 20 GB.

    >43% of American users have an iPhone. RCS will just become another fragmented messaging solution that is hurt by the division of Android and iOS users. We're better off pushing for cross-platform messaging services such as Telegram or WhatsApp.

I'll get exited once Apple adopts RCS. Until then, big ol' meh.

RCS also allows Android users and developers access to things like chat bots,  and business messaging.  As another user said, Apple won't adopt RCS until the only sms messages being sent are between Android users and Apple users.  Currently, it is supported by 55 mobile operators.  It is in everyones best interest for it be available on all carriers so it does not turn into a fragmented mess.

I'm not sure what T-Mobile is doing but it doesn't really seem they are as actively trying to get RCS enabled for it's users as they say.  Sprint did it in 12 weeks.  T-Mobile has apparently been working on it for over a 100 weeks and can only launch on two devices so far.

  7. I've had the MB for awhile now and up till today I haven't really seen many improvements except for increased battery life on my phone. Typically would see 8-25Mbps down whether connected to the MB or not.

Randomly did a speed test and found speeds have increased quite dramatically with my highest being 60Mbps down / 4.5 up with a 50 ping  I restarted the MB to see whether my phone would grab any new towers but I just connected to b25 10x10 and had a speed test of  5 Mbps down.  (edit:  managed to connect to band 41 nearby and got similar speed improvements, so I guess something in my surrounding area has changed)

Not sure whats changed but I'm impressed.

I'm curious, has anyone stumbled upon a MB connection in the wild?.  Also, I've had many calls with voLTE/callingplus with the hidden VoLTE setting enabled on the galaxy S8 while connected to the MB and haven't noticed any delays or quality issues while speaking...although I haven't been looking for it either.

  8. There is a way to apparently add calling plus to the unlocked S8.

    1. In Nova launcher add widget -> Activities
    2. Add LTE Test -> click VoLTE Test UI-> turn on first 2 setting.
    3. Add Enhanced LTE Services and select this option.
    4. Restart and enjoy.

LTE Test is under com.test.LTEfunctionality and Enhanced LTE Services is under Mobile on my device.

Can you guys report the issue to Samsung on behalf of 950U1 & 955U1 Unlocked users with a Sprint SIM card inside the Samsung Users Beta Feedback app?

Many of us successfully enrolled into the Beta program but we aren't getting the Beta software. It seems to affect only the 950U1 & 955U1 GS8 users with a Sprint SIM.

    Thanks in advance.

All you people who successfully registered into the Beta program and have downloaded the software, are you guys on the Sprint GS8/GS8+?  Is anyone on the 955U1 Unlocked Model?

I made it into registration but my 955U1 GS8+ doesn't find the Beta update.  I tried restarting the phone already.  I got in around 10:15 AM PST.

It seems the update is not being pushed to Sprint users on the unlocked model.  I hope that changes soon.   I really do not want to need to flash back to Sprint fw.

Another question. This phone is the unlocked version of the S8+. There is no voicemail app.

What have people been using for voicemail on the unlocked version?

You can use the standard 'call your phone number' to get your voicemail.  I know Google voice / Youmail is a popular option for some but I've heard some people might have trouble using it if they enable wifi calling?  Not sure.

Alternatively, you can always flash the Sprint firmware onto the unlocked version.  Just be prepared there is a ton of bloatware.

  12. I don't think so. Actually I noticed CA only works on Sprint now that my Sprint S8+ is unlocked.

are you trying to say that CA only works while using the Sprint firmware?  If so I guess that's a pretty big reason to flash the Sprint firmware.

  13. The 5X launched on 9/29/15. (http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/09/29/the-nexus-5x-is-official-snapdragon-808-usb-type-c-and-nexus-imprint-fingerprint-sensor/)

The phone shipped around 10/19/15. (http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/19/for-those-who-ordered-a-nexus-5x-your-phone-is-shipping-today/). You stated you preordered. (I will grant I'm assuming your preorder led to the standard shipping date.) Preorders are charged as they ship.

The date of the first official price drop was January 12, 2016. This is easily verifiable (take your pick: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/01/12/deal-alert-google-drops-the-nexus-5x-price-to-349-for-16gb-399-for-32gb-in-the-us-google-store-30-off/ http://www.droid-life.com/2016/01/12/nexus-5x-is-now/ http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/13/10760094/google-nexus-5x-price-cut-349). The price drop was $30.

The number of days between those two dates is 85. For a person to have received a credit, his or her protection plan must have been at least 85 days. Anything less was insufficient. Some plans last 60 days (see the Citi plan referenced above). Some last 90 (see this Discover plan: https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/member-benefits/price-protection.html?icmpgn=publichelpcenter).

Even if a protection plan lasted 90 days, the credit should have been $30.

∴ Anyone planning to take the advice to rely on a price protection plan when placing a preorder shipping 10/20 should be aware that, if there is a price drop which follows previous patterns (already unlikely given the upmarket shift), a 60 day plan is unlikely to help. Even a 90 day plan historically would have only returned you $30.

You are forgetting Black Friday sales.

The LG Nexus 5X was $80 off on November 27th, 2015.

  14. How does that make it right?  How are double secret discount plans for some random people for no legitimate reason proper?  And please show that Sprint signed off on Russ sponsoring SERO for any Joe Blow, that Sprint did not just look the other way, that Sprint was not just incompetent.

    AJ

Companies may sometimes have secret menu's or friends and family type sales.  This was really no different.  See Sprint's print from 2006 below where they opened SERO to general public:

    http://a676.g.akamaitech.net/f/676/773/60m/images.delivery.net/cm50content/1529/09008101806249a7/FriendsAndFamily.jpg

Russ was also the Vice President of Strategy for Sprint and in his FAQ states that he was able to provide referrals through his blog. An email for users to use was also posted on the front page of the Sprint community website around the same time IIRC.

  15. Were you a Sprint employee?  Did you know a Sprint employee?  Did you "legitimately" know Russ?

A decade ago when SERO started, I was kind of a big deal on HowardForums.  I knew about SERO and could have jumped on it, but I did not.  You want to know why?  Because I have an ethical backbone.  I had no legitimate connection to the Sprint Employee Referral Offer.

If you did or did not have a legitimate connection, that is up to you -- and your conscience.

    AJ

Russ openly invited people to use him as a referral, provided updates to the sero plans and also answered questions regarding the plans on his blog.
