I just picked up a G2 off of Craigslist and Sprint gave me a free sim. Apparently you need a spark enabled sim, as the first store I went to couldn't get the standard sim to work. Go to a Sprint store with service technicians and they will give it to you for free.
I'm in Houston too. I went to the Willowbrook location next to Buffalo Wild Wings.
I've gotten sims for free all the time from Sprint. Sounds like a greedy store.

I've done this already. No hassle whatsoever and they sent it to me in 2 days. If the Sprint reseller will not give you a SIM card, then they don't deserve you future business either!
The folks at Sprint International are very accommodating.
Went to my local Sprint store today and they said they didnt have any. Didnt even seem interested to help me. And then the lead tech says that if they had any they would charge me $75 for it.
I'll try calling Sprint International today if I dont make it to another store.

where can I find the phone number to Sprint International? Why International instead of just regular Sprint customer service?

Unless I am mistaken or things have changed recently, go here and enter your zip code and if it just says "Sprint store" then its a corporate store.
According to what I've been told, a corporate store is one that just has "Sprint Store" in its name in the results of that page as oppose to "Sprint Dealer - xTel Wireless" (or whatever other name after the dash)

If you are in Cypress Texas like your profile says then this came up as the Corporate store nearest there.
25845 Us Hwy 290 Out Parcel C
Cypress, TX 77429
Phone: (281) 894-1583
yeah thats the one that said $35. I'll try to stop by again this weekend and try again.

yeah they are free i got a g2 from ebay and i had to go to a corporate store to get it, a third party sprint store refused to give a sim card, they were like sprint phones don't have sim cards

Do I have to say something other than "I bought a used phone without a sim?"
I'm not sure how to tell if a store is a corporate store.

I just bought a used G2 but it didnt come with the LTE sim. My local Sprint store says that will cost $35 to replace. Is there any way to get it cheaper? Can I just buy the sim and do it myself? My Sprint store wants to put it in for me.
I've been watching for one to pop up on ebay for $20 or less but so far no luck.

Later this year, likely Q4.
ugh, was thinking we'd see something soon.
thanks

Anyone know when Sprint will sell a phone capable of LTE 800?
-
I almost never get LTE in a place that I want it. It works on the 2nd floor of my house but not first. It doesnt work at any family or friends houses. It rarely works when I'm out anywhere and especially not when I need a fast data connection. It does work on most freeways and at the gym I go to.
sigh
This is in Houston.

I'm pretty sure that the rom I'm running isnt preventing the change from taking affect but when I am able, I'll try going back to stock and retrying. I dont know if my 3g connection is CDMA1X. I'm just going by the icon at the top that switches from 4g to 3g to 1x.CDMA1X is 3G. Are you sure that your 3G connection is not CDMA1X?
Also, you appear to be running a third party ROM. In order for this method to work, you may need to be on a stock ROM.

Sorry for the delay in replying... Had to put this aside for a few days while other priorities ate up my free time.

Tried changing to "LTE/CDMA auto" but I still get a 3g connection (and 1x)
-
thanks, going to give that a try today.Ah, you meant the EVO LTE? That makes more sense because the One X does not come in a Sprint compatible CDMA2000 variant.
Here is your solution:
*#*#4636#*#* > Phone info > LTE, CDMA
Let the baseband restart. And there you go, EV-DO is disabled.

Thanks! I actually did mean EVO LTE but I've gotten used to calling it One X since thats what its named for every other carrier.I'm pretty sure there was a topic about this regarding the EVO LTE, as far as the ONE X I'm not sure.

Here is the link regarding the LTE "Fix"
Hope it helps.

Maybe a mod can clean up that title for me...

I'm in Houston, which is listed as being 70% completed but in reality I get poor speeds almost everywhere I go. Part of this is because my phone might show its on 4g but within a minute of doing anything on it, it will lose all data connection while it searches for a network. Then it will end up on 3g which is one tiny step up from useless. After a few minutes it will again lose connection while it works on switching to 4g and then the cycle will repeat itself. Everytime it switches from 4g to 3g or even 1x, I have no data connection for a maybe 10-15 seconds.
Is there a way to change a setting that will allow the phone to stay on 4g longer before switching to 3g? Even if its completely lost the LTE signal, I'd rather wait 10-15 seconds for the phone to get back on 4g rather than waste time on 3g and then waste more time switching back to 4g.

finally, after speaking to three different people, arguing with the last one about the G2 needing a sim (she said no), getting disconnected and then called back (that was nice), I have a sim on order. However, its on back order so it may be a little while until I get it.
thanks for the help guys, I'll be back when I activate the G2 and need to complain about something.
