Hi all,
Sprint updated their coverage map today and coverage looks absolutely horrendous, at least in Seattle. Has anyone else noticed the update?
Doesn't look much different to me

It will be interesting to see what happens now with the T-mobile and Sprint merger being approved officially; what that will do for the small number of small regional players that are still left. What will happen with them, only time will tell for example US Celluar, C-Spire, etc.

I think USCC uses TMobile and Sprint outside their footprint. They could continue to use TMO and Dish. If the merger would have failed I would like to have seen Sprint merge with them. Even as far as getting rid of the Sprint name and take USCC

When US Cellular sold Sprint the Chicago market of their licences/spectrum a couple of years ago (I think that is how that happened if memory serves me right), I thought that was going to be the beginning of Sprint buying the rest of US Cellular but I was wrong obviously.

I am wondering how US Cellular is going to survive, maybe US Cellular and Dish can get together? LOL

Might be nice if you could at least you spell check. (I'm not trying to be mean but you have several spelling mistakes that are very noticeable, plus you have run on sentences).

Sprint's new update on 4/5/2019 is finally reflecting the new B41 sites which is a lot (from the link here not on the Sprint site but updates when they update on their end). I am not sure about B26 but I know of a couple, Sprint is not my main carrier anymore so I only check once in a while. Its nice to see they are starting to catch up some.

I am just surprised C-Spire and US Cellular have not been bought up yet by one of the "major four" carriers.

...so nothing changes with this company... one bad decision after another. Merged with Nextel, (poorly executed and full of mistakes)...gets 800 and 900 mHz which it can't use and has to give back/sell 900 and then reband the entire public safety network in the country in order to use the 800 it has ... has to write the entire Nextel thing off the books years later... then it chooses the wrong 4G (Wimax) when within a few weeks, others including AT&T and Verizon and everyone else chose LTE. They never really deploy Wi-Max except to a few small chosen spots and never very dense just to appease the FCC for it's claim to 2500 mHz. Then it stops updating it's network until they have to fix it and decide on a "Rip - and Replace" which just about kills service to many long time users, me included for a long period... Then Son comes along and decides to buy the majority of the company so he can merge it, not realizing it has to be approved by the US government. It was a real eye opener, and a sad state of affairs... but especially when in the 2G and 3G days, Sprint was a leader and a disruptor! They had good phones... I had a Samsung "Blade" a full metal version of the Moto Razr... great phone! Sprint had some of the first color screen phones (Sanyo), the Motorola Razr (I believe AT&T was allowed to carry Razr's first)... They (Sprint) were the carrier to be with back in the day. I miss those days... I'm hoping T Mobile can do what Sprint used to do better.
Sprint wanted NEXTEL for the lower frequencies I am sure and probably back in 2005 the FCC probably did not have any lower frequencies available to auction off thus it was easier for Sprint to acquire. (This is just a guess). With the WiMAX in the last T-mobile/Sprint hearing (February 13, 2019); Marcelo Claure admitted that "WiMax was the wrong technology".

Joski1624 wow I guess you were right, this did die off quite a long time ago. For some reason I don't even remember this even came up, probably because this site was way more active back then and it was hard to keep up on all of the conversations.

I think Sprint can expand on its own, but it will just take longer than people want them too. Sprint (on their own) has made great strides just in the past two years in my opinion).

I came across this article on FierceWIreless and found it interesting. They analyze Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint's network traffic and find which LTE bands are carrying the load for each network.
The biggest surprise to me was how much of Verizon's traffic is on B4/B13. AT&T and Sprint are about what I'd expect from personal experience. Anybody else surprised by one of the carriers?
As I have experienced myself, mostly, although with Verizon I have noticed a lot more of B2 (1900) more than in the past for some reason. We should start seeing a good increase in B5 (850) with them shaving off towers next year that still have CDMA 2G/3G, since supposedly the end of 2019 is still what Verizon wants the CDMA to end.

I have been seeing some new B41 and B26 pop up around the Rochester market lately. On a second note I have noticed the Sprint map can be inaccurate a lot especially in upstate NY, one prime example is BU72XC653(different market but that one has been active for a couple of years now). I sometimes wonder if the periodic updates on Sprint's website really reflect any changes, I mean I am sure it does I just don't look in the right areas I am sure.

Owego, NY
got B25 2xCA turned on, this happened within the last week it seems. Pulling down 40-45Mbps now! My Magic Box gets me 30-35 indoors as well now at work, where it used to cap out around 20Mbps.I was told B41 was scheduled within 6mo in January, but this is a nice stopgap solution. :-)
Edit: Seems like this might be B25 10x10 now, not CA
That's great and all but I would like to see Sprint get 800 going in NY state (state wide not just Syracuse, Binghamton, NYC, and one or two here and there towers....., I can't imagine the IBEZ issue would still be lingering, its been a couple of years now).

Hey, y’all! Just wanted to know if any other developments are currently in the works? This is my first time posting on the Rochester Market, but I’ve bookmarked this thread back in ‘12 and have been following it since then. Really appreciate all the feedback and info. Almost gave up on Sprint back in 2013, but glad I stuck with them as the network advancements have been amazing to see and enjoy. However, I just moved from Greece to midtown near Clinton Square and have really been impressed with the Sprint Spark/LTE Plus performance. Hard to believe I was struggling to just watch a video clip on my iPhone 4s with 3G back in 2014. I know it’s probably too early to speculate about 5G deployment, but the 150+ mbps download speeds I’ve been recording on OOKLA are making me curious. ??????
Nothing has really changed that much other than, all just about all the sites are now LTE for all markets.

I don't think Spectrum really should be the issue it should be coverage, you can have all the Spectrum in the world but if the antennas are not up than its useless.
-
I have mentioned this before and I am going to have to disagree with a dish merger deal, I think Sprint would be better off getting into talks with US Cellular in my opinion, if Sprint merged with US Cellular that would give Sprint a bit of an edge I think because US cellular have some nice untouched coverage that one one else has, for example parts of Maine, and various other areas that US cellular only seems to be the only one in town. (I could be wrong but IF I were Son I'd talk to US Cellular and see if they would be interested in a merger deal).

You do realize that road is in a part of the state where there is less than 50 people per square mile.
Yes I know this very well, HOWEVER is a quite heavily traveled route maybe not as much as 81 or 79 but still is a fairly used route for many. I was just making a statement that it is a bummer that its still roaming through there is all. A place that the old nextel sites could have come to use.

Yup, it did.
Coincidence?
Still a bummer with the "future expansion" route 99 in Pennsylvania (was route 15) still not getting any, very disappointed. You get roaming from basically ny/pa border to just north of Williamsport, PA. A side note to that stretch of route 99, T-mobile used to be roaming there too but finally got native coverage there just this year).

From what I have seen as of today it sounds like this merger is not going to happen which I am really happy about I was NOT in favor at all. If Softbank/Sprint wants someone, I would suggest to Son to start talking to US Cellular (Sprint already took their Chicago area). I know US Cellular doesn't have a nation wide footprint BUT there are some rural areas US Cellular covers that not even Verizon covers with out its roaming agreements (Example the Maine issue that was in the news not long ago).
I was really happy when Sprint got the n' Telos merger (even thought that was really through Shentel). -

yeah it maybe sprint that buys it...it makes more logical sense to me.
IF the T-mobile/Sprint Merger fails (which I hope it does, but that's is just a personal opinion I am not really in favor of it), I would love to see Sprint buy the rest of USCC's remaining. I was super excited when Sprint got n telos (even though that was indirect from Shantel).
-
One of these days one of the big 4 will end up buying USCC remaining footprint, kind of like when Sprint took over in Chicago. I'm not saying it will happen but it could, seems like regional carriers are getting less and less.

Not many if any 3g only sites left less than 1% at most.
EXACTLY, but I do know of two that still are 3G only just from personal checking/traveling.
5 minutes ago, Dkoellerwx said:Just a few, many markets have 100% LTE now, at least at a site level, maybe not footprint wise (thinking of GMOs which may have a slightly more limited range). It is a huge improvement in numbers over even a few months ago.
I was just saying, I do know there are SOME left, I actually know of two still as of today 10/16/17 that are in another market in my area.
Again just was passing along my experience as of recent is all....

I do wonder how much longer US Cellular will survive, ESPECIALLY now with the Sprint and t-Mobile officially merging.
