  1. I'm a very happy FiOS customer.. they just bumped us up without any action on my end (I think from 15/5 to 15/15, but I'm not positive -- it does what we need it to do). But their wireless router/modem (MI424WR-GEN2) leaves me wanting more, probably because I'm in a building that I can see 20+ 2.4GHz WiFi networks in. The speed seems fine, but the WiFi coverage seems lousy. Does anyone know if I have any equipment upgrade options through Verizon? Anticipate buying/building a house soon, and I'm trying to hold off on buying any new gadgets until then. I plan to go all out and get whatever high-end stuff is available once we're in the new place. -Mike
  2. I didn't realize that. From what I interpreted from reading around here, and what I was told by Sprint engineers, I thought they were deploying on those IDs. Is there any other Sprint equipment broadcasting on B41, or is this another way to confirm an 8T8R site? Even if the method is present, it doesn't mean the device is populating it.. considering the popularity if their devices, Samsung is way behind on radio goodies for us. -Mike
  3. You mean going forward, or now? So are you saying that means the 311490/311890 broadcasts are from Clearwire equipment? Yeah, the Samsung enginerring screens have some very interesting bugs like adding/dropping digits. I think it's funny that apps like ours are more accurate! And I also work with all of the different methods to get the PLMN.. and as you've probably noticed, every device and/or market seems to use them differently. And I get them all in my diagnostic reports too.. not that it seems to help! -Mike
  4. Ah! That is very interesting, I wonder if Sprint is going to eventually transition everything onto 310120. It's not all bad news.. yes, it's more work for me, but identifying the PLMN has proven to be very unreliable. That's why SignalCheck isn't great at B41 identification yet. Is there a confirmed GCI pattern? I thought I follow all the relevant threads, I will go do some digging. The app would actually work much better if it only had to rely on GCI patterns (see Band 26 and AT&T band identification). There's always time for football!! -Mike
  5. Next time you believe you are seeing the error in SignalCheck, please send a screenshot to support@bluelinepc.com and also send a diagnostic report within the app by going to About > Send Diagnostics; please include your username and a brief description so I know what it's for. Are you sure it's on Band 41 (i.e. confirmed thorough engineering screen)? SignalCheck uses the PLMN to identify B41, it should be 311490 or 311870. Band 25 and 26 use PLMN 310120. -Mike
  6. I don't know much about Llama, but isn't it an app that automates tasks based on your location? And missing SID/NID/BID information is a sign that you have mobile location features disabled on your device, so the two issues go hand-in-hand. Go into your device's Settings menu (not SignalCheck's), and ensure that you have the option to determine location by mobile/cellular networks enabled. This is usually separate from the satellite/GPS option, which is not needed by SignalCheck. -Mike
  7. By any chance did you try checking what a third-party app like SignalCheck or LTE Discovery was reporting for a SID/NID? Some engineering screens are far less reliable than you might expect. Sometimes invalid data is displayed when the device is scanning for additional channels or connected to a separate technology. While nothing is perfect, I have never seen any third-party apps show incorrect SID/NID information. The Android routines behind them must be more reliable than the methods used by some of the OEM engineering screens. -Mike
  8. Someone would get hurt if a bunch of wireless nerds tried a dunk tank... -Mike
  9. You might see the opposite too.. earlier tonight I was all excited because I was driving around and it was showing B41. After a little bit of time I realized it wasn't true. Must have caught a quick blip of it somewhere, and the app never flipped back. B26 notifications aren't in there yet, but hopefully will be soon. I pick and poke at the code whenever I have a chance, it just isn't too often lately. But, good news on that front.. as of Monday I will have a much lighter workload, at least a few weeks.. that means I can spend some serious time on new updates! -Mike
  10. Watch out for that loose LTE!! FYI, whenever the N5 does not have a 1X connection, it sets the provider name to "Searching for Service", it might not actually be searching for anything. Putting the phone into LTE-only mode is the best example of that. If you toggle between "Global" and "LTE" mode, you might be able to resolve it without rebooting. Global enables both GSM and CDMA, while LTE only enables CDMA. It might be stuck scanning for a GSM connection it will never find with a Sprint SIM installed. -Mike
  11. "LTE" puts it in CDMA/LTE mode. "Global" puts it in CDMA/GSM/LTE mode. If you're using a Sprint SIM, you're not going to see a difference. -Mike
  12. Thanks. I just noticed there was an update released today, and the changelog indicates that custom bubble colors are coming next. For anyone who hasn't tried it, Textra is a solid messaging app.. it does everything you need with no extra nonsense. -Mike
  13. Are user-specific bubble colors back? I haven't updated this week since I saw the reviews claiming that feature went away. I like being able to glance at my status bar and immediately knowing who I have messages from based on colors. -Mike
  14. GSam Battery Monitor will show it, along with a notification icon and many other things. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm -Mike
  15. Does SCP work any better if you go into Preferences > Display Settings > Enable Orientation Sensor? -Mike
  16. Yep, that's where I was too. A little strange that Sprint has no sites (and per a conversation I had with them, none planned) around the lake except for in Laconia, since they have 93 blanketed up beyond Plymouth. VZ, AT&T, and USCC have excellent LTE coverage up there these days, even out in the sticks. That USCC deal would work out very well for us. -Mike
  17. As long as they were definitely talking about Sprint, "2.5 upgrade" is referring to 2.5 GHz, aka 2500 MHz, aka LTE band 41, aka Spark. The new equipment should handle all three LTE bands. -Mike
  18. Oh I wasn't taking it as a putdown, no worries! Just wanted to make sure I mentioned that I knew there were still some issues identifying B41 on non-Samsung devices. Many (all?) of the sites around me had their BSL coordinates (offset here in the Boston market) tweaked during the upgrade process.. most were not significant, just a few blocks or so. I have read that in other markets, BSLs that were previously offset are now exact. SignalCheck bolds the BSL if those coordinates were not saved in the cache, indicating a "new" site. If you leave the app and then bring it to the foreground again, it will no longer be bolded because it re-queries the cache and now sees it as a saved coordinate pair. By only caching the coordinates and not the site itself, you don't have to worry about stale BSL information being cached. If Sprint changes something, the app will reflect it immediately. The only time SignalCheck uses any internet access is when you see a bold BSL, because it had to determine the address by submitting a geocoding query to Google. Non-bolded BSL addresses are pulled from the local cache. No reason for those on limited data plans to needlessly waste KBs on a geocoding query every single time they switch 1X sites.. -Mike
  19. Internet Speed Meter Lite. Shows your data usage broken down into mobile and Wi-Fi, and you can choose which day of the month it resets. Also shows current transfer rates in your status bar. It is free; you can upgrade to "Pro" with more features for a small cost. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.internet.speed.meter.lite Not sure of a comparable iOS app, but something similar must be on the App Store. -Mike
  20. Oh yes I should mention the app is not perfect with B41 detection on several devices.. I was only pointing out that the specific problem on Samsung phones is their enginerrs, not me I have caught a few quick shots of B41 on my N5 in LTE-only mode this week, but it's still very rare and nothing near where I live yet, despite some Clear towers nearby. Makes it hard to troubleshoot. If I could even find a parking lot nearby where I could connect to it easily, I'd set up shop in my Jeep and figure it out! -Mike
  21. Yeah, like I said, the S5 has an issue with that. If you try that "Samsung Refresh" app you might have better luck, I know it has worked for others. Its frustrating because the enginerring screens have the correct info, but its not reporting that same information to Android. I've been in contact with Samsung but they aren't very responsive. It has probably been a bug for years, but nobody noticed because you would never connect to another PLMN. -Mike
  22. When the S5 came out, it was not properly reporting the PLMN (numeric identifier) it was connected to; the Sprint variant always reported 310120, which is used for band 25 & 26 but not 41. This prevented SignalCheck from ever identifying B41. Samsung released an app that fixed several of the radio bugs, but I also heard that app might reset some of your settings. Newer baseband updates might have fixed the issue as well, but I don't have any notes on that. See the bottom of this page for more info: http://www.bluelinepc.com/signalcheck/known-issues/ -Mike
  23. I know this post is a couple weeks old, but I just found this thread.. TACs are network identifiers, so it was either a glitch on your phone or something coincidental changed on Sprint's side. Could one value be decimal and one hex perhaps? Something could be hokey in CM11. -Mike
  24. Touché, didn't think of that angle. Still think it's weird that my phone receives the call, but refuses to answer it. It's not site-specific either, happens all over the place. -Mike
  25. That is my hope as well. I spent a few days on vacation in NH and ended up getting my first-ever "You used too much roaming data" email from Sprint. 301mb on USCC 3G because Sprint has no coverage away from I-93.. I'm sure a big chunk of that was from my Verizon-toting sisters who begged me to turn on my hotspot because they were out of data for the month! -Mike
