  1. I don't know why everyone is so excited about b41. Yes, speeds are great.

B26 is what will make sprint a better network, not b41

The key to a better network is a triband capable device..band 41 is extra goods with wifi speeds outdoors.. I had a ti band device for a month and still have my dual band evo lte and the difference is crazy... I was using my evo again last week and i felt like i was on a different network all together...Lte was painfully slow and kept bumping down to 3g...Went back to band 41 and boom in the same spot i had no issues...Hell the radio on my m8 even out performed my evo on band 25 by about 5 to 10mbs in the same spot....

So i argue that the key to a great network is a new device accessing all three bands...If i only had my evo i would be still screaming this buildout is so slow and not great....but with triband its the best....even on band 25.....

  2. Where are you located this is your residence area?

Work on 23rd street & 9th ave live on 119th and 1st East harlem. Brother lives in central harlem on t mobile...I have noticed band 41 in tribeca near canal/ bmcc area, 23rd street and most of east and central harlem... Last week on my m8 (first week of having phone) i was consistantly picking up band 25 & 26 and never got 41 but since tuesday of this week bam 41 everywhere even holding  -120 db with 15mbs down...triband is working like a charm

  3. Something huge just seemed to happen overnight. This time last week i was complaining i couldnt get band 41. Now im getting all three bands with no issues and handoffs are seemless! I can make calls in places i couldnt before and hold on to lte longer with a stronger signal...Gotta say im loving this m8 and finally sprint is out performing other carriers....My bro is complaining how tmoble is slowing down and he is getting way more dropped calls than i ever do in manhattan....Good to see sprint deliver.

  4. And my M8 is refusing to hop into Band 41 still unless there is no other band available. What's funny is that my old M8 was almost the opposite in that it'd only connect to Band 41, but hardly go to Band 25.

Im with you had the m8 for a week in manhattan and i get 25 and 26 no problem but only saw 41 twice. Yesterday a -115 band 41 signal on city island still pulled about 10mbs down and three days ago on debrossis street in tribeca -104 signal pulled 20mbs. In both cases when i lost signal i would drop down to 1x because 25 and 26 wasnt avail. UGH i Need 41!!!!

  5. After spending a week in st paul MN boy am i happy to be back in NY where i can get a signal and some 4g! geez though my phone was gonna explode from being so hott searching for signals indoors and batter drain was crazy! 4g was strong in mall of america but still felt behind....Had to turn of lte because i kept picking up weak lte. I cant wait for the next one to be announced im holding out for that...Keeping my evo for now

  6. Anyone get 800 to there phone yet?

Nope prob wont be up for another few weeks. Some are live in Mass. and penn. and even 1 or 2 sites in Jersey but we wont see anything close to what chicago has atleast for another few weeks...Then slowly one at a time the way new sites are poping up! Come on sprint flip that switch!

  7. The question is when, there is a tower sprint/nextel one block away that is my only hope for better service, my boss has verizon even him has trouble with service his internet comes and goes and tmobile no service

Ugh in your case its prob best to wait, if no other carrier offers better service then just call every single month and get them to give you that 25 dollar credit or whatever the credit is worth nowadayz. I cant imagine it. My wife works down there and its super annoying calling her and her phone disconnects and fades in and out. She wants unlimited data so she is trying hard to tuff it out but its rough. Verizon works better in her specific area but for you, if there is no better option like  tmobile prepaid, then you may be better off just waiting. Or look into AT&T but thats just yet another contract with issues. At least u know sprint is working hard on upgrades nationwide so the chance of sprint fixing the problem as soon as they can is probably greater than the other companies in the area.

  8. I left Verizon because they have awful service here. I would not go back to them. Sprint 3G was faster than Verizon LTE here. T-mobile works fine here in my building so they would be the option. 800 mhz won't help me with data since no phone support that unless I get a new phone. But if what you said is true of it taking a looooooong time, then I will have to consider alternatives.

Yeah i hear you man...I would say go with Tmobile if you can get out of your contract and do month to month atleast until sprint finishes the network upgrades and repairs in your area...I mean people spend most of their time at work anyway so I cant imagine not having service 8 - 10 hours a day...So I would say go get data capped at tmobile (no more contracts) and jump ship when sprint gets that area under control.

  9. Since I value the opinions of those in this site, I have a question. Ever since Nov of last year from Sandy, Lower Manhattan has had the worst service for Sprint. NV is going on in the city where about 50 percent of the area I visit have LTE available. My work area which is Wall street has little or no NV sites done. The network tickets in the area has been around since Nov 2012 and still is being worked on. How long do you wait until you finally break and move on? Don't want to be the fool who still is waiting when this Nov comes along... What would you do?

I would do two things...First i would ask your co workers if they have been having issues still with verizon at&t and tmobile because from what i know all carriers have open tickets in that area so it may not help you if you switch. i think its more so the buildings have issues rather than the carrier. All the buildings in that area have to be completely rewired (telephone landlines and power lines) so permits and replacement towers in that area will take a really looooong time...

Second 800mhz will be going live soon so you will be having increased service from towers further away so it may help. I would wait if i were you but if you cant take it anymore then i understand you leaving but check with each carrier first so that your not stuck in the same situation.

  10. 800mhz is the least of my concerns... for now. Still no NV in the downtown Manhattan area. At least Queens has started to pick up. I guess I will need a new phone later this year or next year to use 800 mhz LTE.

Yeah i know sandy still has downtown manhattan down in most areas around battery park...I have yet to see any carrier have good service down there till this day. There are a few upgrades in some places tho but geez lower manhattan is still a dead zone after all this time.

  11. Anyone else anxious about Sunday? We will see a slew of 800 updates after that! Better coverage for all!

I def am...but im have that feeling the first 800 update will go online in the tri state area a month after that...One by one...in very slow but steady intervals...i hope im wrong and  on monday green dots fill my map and i can make calls from every brick building in nyc.... but i cant help but feel like sunday will be uneventful...Hope im wrong!!!!

  12. This is my typical days worth of battery, i did plug the charger in after about 12hrs for about 10min. You will also notice, its on mobile network almost the entire time! (2 gaps for airplane mode while riding the subway about 30min each way)

and a huge amount of screen on time as well

14 hours is about averge battery time for most devices today. And even better than many other smartphones now. Wonder how many hours you will get when the buildout is complete :)

  13. Question for anyone near 23rd and 7th. Did they take that LTE tower offline. Couldn't get a LTE signal over there today and im not sure if its my device or just the site is offline. I have notice I have seen a lot less LTE on my phone in the last few days but and i know many users have reported a lot of sites offline all of a sudden.

  14. Do you think Cell signal strength will improve for example , remember I said when I was in between towns Upstate my phone would drop to the extended network will that continue to happen.

Yeah the key will be 800. There will be no new towers but evey upgraded tower will be broadcasting a 800 mhz signal so the range of the signal will be larger and stronger so you will get better signals further away from towers with less interferenceand and stonger signals in buildings etc. At&T and Verizon were the only two companies that could broadcast on spectrum that low but now sprint can as well. It will help you roam less and connect to sprint 800 if you have a phone thats compatable. (iphone 5 evo lte s3 or s4 etc.)

  15. I like how T-Mobile is rolling out their LTE, but coverage it too much of a factor in the U.S. to think about going to them. In many of the EDGE only areas on T-Mobile, Sprint has EVDO that is not heavily loaded. When I went to North Carolina, T-Mobile was giving me about 100 Kbps whereas on Sprint I would get near 2 Mbps speeds at all times.

    Back on topic...

The LTE tower by my school has been giving me great speeds. My friends on Verizon are getting 5Mbps at the most but I am easily getting about 8Mbps while indoors. A few of them are actually switching to Sprint!

Agreed. I travel a lot and sprint is great every where i go. Had 4g lte in VA in the middle of nowhere (dumpfries) and was getting 28 down and 8 up and great voice mean while on the drive down my brother was complaining about only having edge everywhere and getting dropped calls. The networks dont compare

  16. Jeez.. So you guys have those 5 foot antennas just hanging street level on the buildings?

I call shenanigans without a LTE engineering screenshot of a close up speed test and a further distant one.

    Sent from my little Note2

I will post seed test tomorrow and engineering screens tomorrow when i go to work but u have to realize the panels are a good 50 to 75 feet off the ground in rooftops in the city so standing across the street from a tower will give you amazingly slow speeds because the signal is flying over head and optimized to reach a 5 to ten block radius. Unless the panels were pointed straight down to the street you need to be quite a bit away from the tower to get optimal signals. But if you point the panels straight down you wont get a good signal 5 bocks away from the tower. Once its launched a nearby tower will provide users close to or under a tower better speed because it will be farther away and have a pannel pointed at the people who live close and under a tower like my building. I have panels above me on my roof but i connect to towers 4 blocks away unless i go outside.

  17. I was wondering if someone could help me understand what’s going on. Since the tower in Forest Hills Queens came online with LTE, I am having serious problems accessing data when connected to 4G. Yesterday I parked my car a block from the tower and ran some speed tests. Almost half the times the speed tests failed due to network error and the other half the download speeds were similar to 3G. This has been going on for over 3 weeks. In the below screenshots, the signal strength is 73dBm but when the data doesn’t fail, I get around 0.5Mbps download speed. The upload seems slow but not terrible. Maybe Sprint has backhaul issues at this site? I am not sure if calling the support will help because LTE is not yet official in NY.

I would say it just needs adustments. They will adjust signal strength and down tilt over the next few days and weeks at that location and every lte site so just hang tight. Also you may want to try 2 to 3 blocsks away instead of 1. I notice you get the best speed about two to 3 blocks away from the tower. Was across the street of the 23rd &7th tower and got similar results yesterday but two avenues over i got 8mbs. I assume they dont broadcast LTE at a site until backhaul was available but i dont know for sure.

  18. Well , if it is Sprint/Clear LTE thats amazinf & i'd love to get me some of dat never in my life will I complain about anything if I could get those speeds .

You said that a LTE tower go acceped to Long Island right ? Do you know the location & how long it takes for them to activate the tower after acceptance ? Im definitely gonna have to invest in becoming a Sponsor

LTE is live in port jefferson and there are 3g upgrades popping up all over the island

  19. Does anyone know which cell sites are part of which cluster?

I wish that info was avail. I just been seeing a pattern of towers not being accepted in small groups of 3 or 4 in the same area on the NV site maps. I assume that justifies a cluster. But i often wonder if someone knows of an official list of clusters. Also I have only checked NYC and noticed that pattern. Im not sure how it pans out in other markets. I know Chicago was a disaster so the cluster thing is set up to avoid that.

  20. I was wondering if a place like Yankee stadium has all those users and data is not even usable, who is using the bandwidth? Do all the users just being connected take all the bandwidth because of user overloadage?

I would assume its overloadage taking all the bandwidth. Everyone trying to tweet and upload photos to Facebook checking emails at the same time will do it. Think everyone is getting a connection but it is super slow (ping 1337 downlink .001 upload .005). So you can connect it will just take 5 mins to load a page. NV should be able to accommodate that many people. In brooklyn barclays stadium you can browse just fine because upgrades are done there.

  21. My pain, my suffering lol. :(

How could these sites be overlooked? Not saying this because I live in the area but because everyone knews baseball season was coming. I hope citi field is covered.

Hey at least my texts go through. :)

Yeah its annoying when you have upgrades going through around you but your cluster is still in no mans land but here is my theory on it. We know they like to bring up upgrades in clusters, so all of the sites in that cluster must have completed installs. So my guess is that near Yankee stadium there is an idiot land lord who wont grant techs access to the roof or it may be back haul still pending or even a permit waiting. So one site being incomplete will make the 3 or 4 surrounding sites in the cluster sit unaccepted. That's the only logical explanation i can come up with. I know my buildings roof has upgraded equipment for about 2 months now but the three sites in my cluster has no 4g or even upgraded 3g so i know my buildings not the problem.

  22. Your right, I didn't think to check that area for the unaccepted sites, that definitely should help alleviate a lot of the slow down..

Yeah man i know the feeling when i'm up there its super slow on game day. Even my home area has accepted sites around me but my sector is still unaccepted which leaves me with wacky 4g from signals im picking up from far away. The market is coming along but still has quite a long way to go. Sensorly should be all dark purple once every site is complete. :D

  23. Also with that in mind, how does sprint plan to deal with a situation like Yankee Stadium, where its not just a stadium full of users, but also surrounded by a dense amount of residential users.

Also bro i just did a quick check for you and i noticed that there are 4 towers that surround Yankee stadium and one that looks like it is in the stadium that has not been upgraded yet. looks like the only upgrades are on 162nd street and summit and one on 167th and sherman. Those two sites are way over loaded on game day and are pretty far away thats why its been super slow. Trust it will get way better once the 4 sites directly around the stadium are upgraded. Those aren't even 3g accepted yet.

Since your a sponsor check the NV site complete map and compare it to the NV site map new york markets which shows all towers that are listed for upgrades. You notice the sector around Yankee stadium hasn't been upgraded yet.
