  1. They must have done a down tilt adjustment or something in Wendell. I work at Lizard Lick crossroads and used to get usable 4g signal on Hwy 97 except for the dip near little river park. Not so for the past week or two. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  2. Has anyone seen improved 3g speeds? East cary has always been very bad for me with 3g speeds and I have noticed lately it has gotten better. I can actually stream pandora with no interruptions. I still never see speeds above 300kbps while other markets are seeing closer to 1mbps with the NV upgraded towers. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  3. Ah gotcha. My apologies no offense intended. I just looked at the huge gaping hole on sensorly from downtown clear up glenwood, I thought ive had signal in that area before but it was closer to pleasant valley. Again no offense intended :-) Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  4. Ahhh, it depends on what you are calling Raleigh. Raleigh itself is pretty well covered except for certain parts of North Hills including Crabtree. Step right outside of Raleigh and things go downhill relatively quickly. Seems like Garner has stalled out and Wake Forest is still a black hole. Negative... I drive from south Raleigh area/garner and through downtown up to just b4 crabtree and get zip 4g once I leave my garner tower.... Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2 Try cycling airplane mode. Thats what really stinks with LTE. The time for the phone to re-search for signal is way too long. I know it does it to save battery but id like the ability to choose that time myself. Its especially painful when you know youre just in a small dead zone but if anything tries to use data during that dead zone youre thrown back to 3g and sometimes in excess of 15 minutes to acquire signal again. Or you can just toggle airplane mode and it will re-search for signal. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  5. In my experience so far, when the signal is low (using LTE signal test app) I get around 4-5mbps. Any worse signal than that it drops to 3g. The LOWEST ive had was 2.5mbps and that was a very poor signal during peak time. When I have decent signal I get about 7-20mbps. My biggest complaint that will probably be fixed with more lte towers is when 4g signals drop from a usually small dead spot it takes way too long to pick the 4g back up. Only fix is cycling airplane mode. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  6. Are there any sprint phones with 800mhz LTE chipsets yet ie they planned ahead? I'm sure that will help ALOT with indoor signal strength whiffs is where Sprint has always stunk. I'm looking forward to the 800mhz voice where I frequently drop signal in stores or brick buildings. The "larger" wavelength is supposed to help with that correct? 7. Hah! "Double Rainbow!!!! OMG OMG OMG DOUBLE RAINBOW" (hopefully somebody gets that reference ) Awesome pic! Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  8. I've noticed this too. The annoying thing for me so far is while there is a significant amount of LTE coverage in the area, there's enough holes that when dropping signal in the holes it takes a significant amount of time to re acquire signal. Of course I could always toggle airplane mode and it will pop back up. It's still pretty annoying and not safe to do while driving. This isn't really a sprint complaint more of an LTE in general disgruntlement. With WiMax as long as the 4g radio was "turned on" it would re acquire signal quickly. Example: Going from Western Blvd area which has great coverage to the Jones Franklin area. It drops out right at the Jack Daniels store. If I toggle airplane mode at 440/Jones Franklin it will re acquire and hold signal all the way to crossroads. If I dont toggle airplane mode it will often not re acquire for a while. I've tried this with and without an active constant data connection. Maybe this is stuff that can be fixed with final tweaking of down tilts of the panels I don't know. It sure is frustrating though. Especially since I have not noticed 3g improvements at all yet. Still rarely get over 200kbps download with ping times in the 200-400ms range. Many are registering as eHRPD. I'm not sure if that is an indicator that NV has taken place at the site or not. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  9. Wow. Seems I am really or of the loop with what's going on with gbps services out there. Thanks for the info! Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  10. I thought ATT ceased their expansion of fiber/uverse? Same with Verizon FiOS. Competition will be great but they're still going to charge a ridiculous amount for anything over 50mbps. For whatever reason NC seems to always be behind the curve. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  11. This was a sprint cell phone (mine) to a Verizon cell phone. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  12. Ah so it's something on the tel-co side more than likely? Not two phones being assigned the same frequency? (This is where my ignorance of cell technology comes in. Are frequencies shared between devices and encryption keys are given or is each phone assigned a specific frequency during a call?. See with everything being essentially wireless voIP (I'm assuming, since it's "digital" not analog) I don't understand how the error could have taken place. I guess I should mention for the obvious that I was also on my cell, Sprint of course. If it were an analog system, I'd assume the channels were crossed/both in use, or the "physical line" from where the cell tower connected to the tell-co's copper were both connected at the same time. In the digital cell phone world, where phone calls are encrypted digital data transmissions I don't see how this could happen. I could understand maybe getting a bunch of garbled mess instead of understandable audio, or simply a failed call. If it makes any difference, the recordings start the instant I press the call button. Every other phone call recorded starts the ringing about 1.5 to two seconds or so after placing the call button. So essentially with those two phone calls, as soon as I hit the call button, maybe less than a one second pause I start hearing audible background noise.
  13. I have to say I don't think I've ever had this happen, and not sure how it could have happened but luckily I use a call recorder so I can say I'm not crazy I'm a personal assistant for a "celebrity" so all my phone calls get recorded for various reasons (remembering what my boss asks me to do, covering my a** when I try and arrange something and they back out, etc) Any ways I was calling a friend of mine on on his Verizon mobile phone. As soon as I placed the call, I heard background noise. No ring what so ever. There's someone talking in the back ground. Not sure if he was already in a call, or placing a call at the same time, or if his phone rang/picked up when I placed my call. We exchange a few words and he sounds as surprised as me. 3/4 of the way through the call, I hear ringing and someone else connects and answers (as if his phone rang) and starts speaking what I'm guessing is Spanish. I hang up, a little confused. About maybe 20 to 30 seconds after hanging up, I place the call again. Again I'm instantly connected to someone (I'm guessing somebody different) and this time it sounds like it's just background noise, and the person is not placing a call or in the middle of a call. What... In... The.... World... Happened. First Call: http://www.imajonesi...XXXXXXX_Out.3gp Second Call: http://www.imajonesi...XXXXXXX_Out.3gp I'm the "fainter voice" aka Jonathan. Now I'm a nerd, so if this can be explained I would love to understand how/why. Don't dumb it down too much for me Cell phone technology as far as the networking and RF side is something that's just not easily studied or "common knowledge." Thanks S4GRU!!!
  14. Has sprint officially announced a Raleigh market launch yet? Sensorly is looking better and better each week. Ive read here they usually announce the launch at around 50-60% completion. Seems like one or two more towers in Cary and inside the beltline will get us to near complete coverage for the city coverage. Dont knkw how far past 540 they will cover. I was surprised to see 4g all the way out in Wendell the other day. Not much and it didnt last long but nonetheless it was there. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2
  15. Looks like another tower went live in the past day or two inside the beltline. Getting ALOT of coverage inside the beltline, west Raleigh. I think the tower at Hillsborough St/Dixie Trail might be the one? I'm pretty sure that was the WiMax tower in the area, and it was the fastest WiMax tower I ever connected to in Raleigh. Consistently got 10+ down 4+ up with my Evo 3D. If it's not that tower possibly the one at Wade Ave/Ridge Rd. Saw some trucks back there Friday afternoon. Did about an hour and a half's worth of logging with Sensorly in the Dixie Trail/Wade Ave/Oberlin/NCSU area. Hope they show up... I have no idea how long between the log is complete and shows on the website. I got a few speed tests in as well. Western Blvd & Blue Ridge Rd: 3.99/0.65 80ms 4.90/1.77 70ms Western Blvd & Gorman St: 23.55/6.35 81ms 32.66/8.18 71ms Western Blvd & Dan Allen: 13.52/5.49 71ms 4.47/0.50 74ms Hillsborough St & Dan Allen: 19.85/8.577 57ms 19.22/6.83 69ms Looking good looking good! I kept consistent signal for the better part of today. Must be "launching" soon! I hope this pace continues.
  16. 4G is back up in south Raleigh 440/Jones Franklin area. Noticed my phone lost cellular signal this evening. First I lost 1x only (still had 3G but no voice) then later lost 3G but had voice (no data). Put my phone in airplane mode for a while and started playing grand theft auto vice city (Note 2 + Game Klip + PS3 Controller + Sixaxis bluetooth connectivity = WIN). Turned airplane mode off around 2:00am and poof I had 4G... in my house! When I first noticed 4G popping up near my house, I lost it 5 ft from the door. Now it's getting signal throughout my house. Speedtest is pulling 10 down, 5 up. Plenty fast for me I'll try and run some sensorly tomorrow and see if the signal got any better. I logged all the areas near Lake Johnson/Jones Franklin/Athens Dr. Hopefully whatever they were doing this past week while it was down is going to increase the range. Kinda surprising how little of an area one tower seems to cover. Take the tower at 70/401 South Raleigh/Garner. Kinda surprised it only covered about a mile or so of US70. I just started to get signal around the Taco Bell on South Wilmington, and lost it before getting to Timber.
  17. Must have been down when I drove by a few days ago. I did get some briefly at auburn and rock quarry rd. Didn't get a speed test there either. Week or two ago I noticed I hit 4G at the 70/401 split. I parked at the Lowe's parking lot where the signal was the strongest and was hitting 21-25 down and 9 up. Incredible! I have noticed I'm not getting signal in south west Raleigh anymore (440/Jones Franklin). Must be working on something, its been down for me for almost a week. May be my phone being funny though. I was even getting service inside my home, 5 down 3 up. I'm being patient
  18. That might have been me I live right off Jones Franklin and 440... Caught some 4G for the first time myself today on Athens Dr. Had to do a double take on sensorly. Decided to just keep driving around. Lost the signal at the bottom of Jones Franklin at 440. Seems like the signal is being blasted down US1/440. Here's a speedtest I did on Athens Dr in Raleigh. http://www.imajonesi...n/LTE-Speed.jpg I'm heading down around Garner tomorrow, and will be running all over the place. I'll be sure to have sensorly running all day. I may be in the east Cary area tomorrow as well. I'll be loggin! w00t w00t! This almost makes the past two+ years of horrible 3G speeds worth it, and paying an extra $10 a month for "premium data."
  19. Oh I completely understand it's prelaunch... I'm NOT complaining about 10mbps... The phone was perfectly snappy. 10 is PLENTY considering even a high def netflix stream is only 5-6. My home internet is only 6mbps down 1mbps up. My phone (note 2) is essentially my computer so I don't know if there will be a need for home internet (note I'm not talking about tethering here... I just hook my phone upto my TV and use wireless keyb/mouse and use it as my home PC. Does everything I need it to do. When I need more I can splashtop to my work PC for full PC experience.) back on topic... 22mbps is just AWESOME! How fast is the fiber connection at the average LTE tower? I'm actually surprised they don't "allocate" the speed between users. So if that tower happens to have very light traffic, and your connection was sufficient you would be able to use as much bandwidth as the phone could theoretically use? Seems a strange way to do it, makes more sense to "limit" (again, more like allocate) the bandwidth across the board. I don't know... reading ya'lls posts sometimes are like greek to me, but I'm a nerd at heart and love reading about it. Can't wait for full deployment. Will make the past 2 years of horrendous 3g speeds worth it. One thing I forgot to test was the 3g speeds. DanielHolt, Did you happen to test 3g speeds in that location too? Is it safe to assume when LTE goes live on a tower the NV upgrades are also done? Was there a big improvement? If I can get 100kbps in west raleigh (Jones Franklin area, and pretty much the entire western half of inside the beltline it seems, as well as most of east Cary) I'm lucky. I get 200-300kbps every once and a while, but it is essentially unusable. When I had my EVO3D with WiMax it was tolerable as I got great signal in most locations, including full strength at work which routinely got 8-10mbps down 1mbps up (Wake Forest Rd/440)
  20. Screenshots... For some reason I can't link to images. I'm outa my whole 500K of storage, but can't even use my remote hosting Anywho maybe I can use one of those fingled link things... http://www.helifreak...=1&d=1361497781 http://www.helifreak.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=396564&stc=1&d=1361498069 http://www.helifreak.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=396565&stc=1&d=1361498069
  21. Heard rumor there was a live LTE tower at Six Forks near 540. Driving up six forks, before Sawmill I got the first little glimpse of 4G then it went out. Closer to 540 it popped back up again. I snapped a few pics of what I (think) is the tower providing signal. I've seen people post screenshots of 30+mbps down 10+mbps up on sprint towers. Was this while they were doing testing and before limiting the speed? It was during rush hour so it may have been network congestion, but every test was basically right at 10mbps so I guess throttling (this may not be the proper terminology is more likely. I didn't have Sensorly running unfortunately but I'll be back in the area and will drive around a little and do some logs. Here's some screenshots and pics:
