  1. Tampa is swimming in Triband. People you know must be like you sitting on a Uniband LTE device. I am hearing lots of good B41 and B26 around Tampa.

Yeah I've logged my commutes going from Westshore to Temple Terrace and the eastern edge of Clearwater and B26 the whole time with some B41.

  2. I'd recommend removing the cell and sector fields (make sure they are blank) so this will work across all Band 41 sites in the area that use "04B" to designate B41 sites. Right now this will only detect Band 41 on one sector of the site you logged.

Thanks. I figured it was too specific. Will start logging my commutes and see where I drive though that's B41.

  3. Haven't been in Tampa for awhile so I can't help you with what the first three digits of the GCI are for B41, but if you can can get those three digits and the TAC you can create a custom band rule in the menu of LTE Discovery's signal tab so it will always recognize that as B41.

Thanks. I've been randomly going into the debug menu looking for band 41 and when I finally saw it, I went to LTE Discovery and got the CGI and other info. This was in Carrollwood near Fletcher and Dale Mabry.

Did I fill out too much info or is it okay?

  4. So I read in the New York City forum that the LTE Discovery with the Galaxy S5 has problems reporting B41. Over there someone said the quick and dirty way to figure out the band is if the CGI starts with 02 it's B41. Anyone know what it is for our area?

  5. I found out what was slowing my Optimum internet speeds significantly! It was my router, it has througput limit. It hits 35 Mbps upload but won't go past 50 on the download.

For Christmas I asked my mother for a new gigabit capable router (I'm no ordinary teenager) so I can get my actual speed out of the ISP.

Yup the router makes a big difference. I had 15/5 FiOS then did the upgrade for 50/25 but noticed WiFi couldn't get close to 50 even right next to the router. Since I didn't feel like getting a new router and extender, I used the share internet option on my wired iMac so that at least in my room I had improved WiFi speeds.

  6. The point was that the poster thought it had to do with the distance to the actual tower.

Actually my point about being close to a tower was that he didn't use a jailbreak app to change his carrier name from AT&T or Verizon to Sprint LTE. But as Dkoellerwx pointed out, it was probably inaccuracy of the server. Even within the video at 1:30 it gives a more realistic 11.78 down.

  7. There is a jailbreak program for ios that will change the carriers name to anything u want. It could be that the person who posted this was on AT&T or Verizon and changed the carrier to sprint with the JB program.

The guy on YouTube replied with where he did the speed test and it's only a couple blocks away from a Sprint NV upgraded 3G/4G site so it could be legit. Out of all the areas of Tampa, it's pretty close to an area I drive through everyday. I'll see what my Galaxy S III can get this afternoon. I drive out there early in the mornings too around 6am so I'll give it test then too.

  8. Is this legit or have I been lied to. Isn't Sprint's Theoretical high 37mbps ? What is this ?

Not sure how they did that, Speedtest.net is known to flake out occasionally, or have servers report inaccurately. Yes, the max speed possible on Sprint's current LTE network without the aid of a Tri-Band hotspot is 37.5Mbps.

I'm in Tampa now but I haven't been doing speed tests in a while. I'll give it a try next time I've got a nice strong LTE signal. But interesting the server chosen was Jacksonville rather than the two here in Tampa.

  9. So looks like I'll be moving to a different thread in the forum. Moving to Tampa this coming week. Haven't got to try LTE anywhere else than New York City so it'll be nice to see how good or not so good it is down there.

  10. I've discovered the same thing and realized what the issue was.  The SpeedTest app itself is the issue.

There's actually a setting that will give you a truer picture of your speeds.  By default, SpeedTest isn't giving you the truest speed results.  If you click on the "Tools" button at the bottom of the SpeedTest app, you will see a slider for Better Graphics or Better Performance.  Move it over to "Better Performance".  Now when you run the app, you'll notice considerably higher speeds, but the needle won't change instantly, but rather in stages.

I have an Evo 4G LTE, so results may vary if you have a different device.

Ah. I used to have it all the way to Better Performance with previous phones but thought with the GSIII was powerful enough to keep it on better graphics. I'll give it a try again tomorrow.

  11. Nope, that should the speed that your phone is getting. Maybe you need to try to run a speedtest on a different server or download RootMetrics as they usually choose servers better than Ookla's Speedtest app.

I'm on the same Towerstream server on the computer and phone. Just tried RootMetrics a couple times and got 13-4/6. I guess I'll chalk it up to network variability.

  12. Great LTE speeds in Ozone Park:

But this is tethered. On the phone I get 13-14/3-6. Is there something hardware or software that's limiting getting these types of speeds on the phone. I'm fine with the phone speeds but I'm just curious cause it's pretty consistent in the difference.

  13. iPhone 5 prl bumped from 51096 to 51097

Now my phone calls aren't going through properly.

Did you end up getting it working? My father's Galaxy Nexus was acting weird and couldn't call or text as if it was disconnected. I called Sprint and they did something on their end. All is good now.

  14. LTE connection and speed seems to have picked up in the Ozone Park area, Woodhaven and 101st Avenue. Consistently connected at -95dBm and getting around 30-40 ms, 15/6 speeds.

3G has also improved. Around 100ms, 1.3/0.8 speeds.

  15. What a difference 6 blocks can make.

    Hillside Avenue:

    Union Turnpike:

    ^^^Hillside & 168th Street.

Yeah must be something going on cause I'm in the 179th street and Hillside area and 3G and 4G have gone down in speed along with signal strength the last week or so.

  16. UES (71st and 1st) has definitely improved in the last few weeks. Haven't been doing many speed tests recently but today I'm at 53 ms, 12/6, -78 dBm, 62 asu. This is indoors in an apartment and speed and signals are definitely improved.

  17. TLDR: sub 100ms ping + 5-10 mbps DL speeds = much faster response than 20-30 mbps DL speeds + 150ms + ping due to the fact that communication between device and targeted server is done faster.

For a second u thought you meant TLDR as in The LockerGnome Daily Report that Chris Pirillo does on YouTube. LOL. Great post. I take consistently sub-100 pings at 5-10 Mbps any day over high pings and 20+ Mbps. It's not like I'm using torrents or downloading hundreds of MB or GB files on my phone on the go. I prefer to do big files on my FiOS Wi-Fi.
