They're allowing VoIP calls over GV in the new iOS Hangouts app:
http://lifehacker.com/google-hangouts-for-ios-adds-free-voice-calling-1449196714
I don't know why they haven't implemented it yet in Android, but you can bet it's coming.
Possibly waiting until the middle of the 2014, when all the third party apps (Groove IP etc) are kicked off.

Is it normal for the app to show eHRPD (Verizon) and 1XRTT (Sprint) ?
-
I don't think it's totally clear what "Spark" is supposed to mean on those maps. Sprint is coloring places around Chicago that never had WiMax as "Spark" as well.
I do think that the "Turbo" (I hate the way they show that, so hard to see) areas are definitely Clear WiMax-now-LTE sites with upgraded backhaul.
Pink, slightly pink, a little purple, more purple.... very clear.....
Yep, very bad colours for voice and data.

Is he able to freely switch back and forth between Sprint and Tmobile sims without any service hiccups? Been reading some accounts of problems when going back to the Sprint sim after having the T mobile sim in.
For me it takes two power ups, otherwise the data state gets mixed up, half in some funny state.
1) power off phone
2) put in new SIM
3) power on
4) power off
5) power on

Also I know its been discussed before but is there a full list of differences between the Play Store version and the Sprint version?
So far it sounds like the wording on the packaging is different, there's a different screen protector, there's a sprint sim, and in theory the software is different because it says it's locked to sprint bands or something like that
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
It isn't locked, other people have reported using it straight away with AT&T and T-Mobile SIMs,
No software differences at all.
The main downside with the Sprint one is the price and the lack of storage space. 16GB isn't enough for me.

My complaints with the Nexus 5 thus far after heavy testing for 1 week:
1. Voicemail alert notifications via sound or led light = none.
When someone leaves a voicemail, the alert icon will show up in the upper left hand corner of the phone, but will not play the sound you select in voicemail settings and the phone led will not alert you. The only way I have found to receive an alert is set Google Voice to email me a notification when a voicemail is left, thus my phone alerts me of a new email.
When I get a voicemail, my phone vibrates and the LED flashes green.
I use Google voice and have the app installed.

Got my n5 (32GB) activated today, I noticed that the PCS signal is slightly stronger at work.
Tried to activate it online, accepted all the phone/SIM numbers, but then told me to use the chat, worked no problem.
Rebooted and then updated the profile.
Of course, LTE is no more outside here now in Felony Way, WA, just the slow 3G [which might indicate 3G isn't converted over], hopefully that will change next year.
I can swap the AT&T and Sprint SIMs out, with no real problems.
-
Might be able to check it in the engineering screens.
Yeah the biggest reason I wanted the T-Mobile SIM was "just in case". If a hurricane ever knocks out the Sprint network in the area I don't think there would be much hope for T-Mobile, but at least I could have a second option to try to get a signal. Who knows?
Checked up with Sprint on my order and they said that it'll take 15 days before they get anything in lol. Still fine by me since the phone is 3 weeks out, but I feel bad for those who have the phone and are waiting on the SIM.
You're in Florida, I have read that they have good service there, the state's topology helps.
Its fun to try other services.

The government should give it lend it to companies, just like TV spectrum.
Then the companies could use their billions to actually build the cell network, instead of buying the spectrum and not having enough money to use it.
Crazy thoughts I know.

Still waiting on Sprint to ship a SIM, but I have plenty of time given the wait for the N5. Anyone manage to snag a SIM recently? T-Mobile was doing a special where you can get one of their pre-paid SIMs for free so I picked it up in case I ever wanted to try out T-Mobile in my N5.
I ordered one last week, get it today, less than a week. They told me there was a backorder too, give it a little time you'll get one.
I have tried the n5 with a prepaid T-Mobile sim, their LTE is very fast, crazy fast, in the places you can get it, but don't leave the city and if you stay in the city, don't go indoors, otherwise it drops to Edge and then nothing.
Also using it with AT&T, also great speeds, 15 to 30 Mbps, great coverage, when LTE isn't available it drops to HSPA+ which gives good speeds of 2 to 4 Mbps. Fast enough for me.
I think that with AT&T LTE is connecting on their 700 Mhz band, not sure. How can I find that out?

I know I can't roam on a Verizon Airave equivalent.
-
I got this for $8.50 shipped from ebay
Spigen SGP Ultra Fit
I have that same case, the black one, which is grippy like the black nexus5 skin.
I have this Qi charger too, Nokia RT-900, works great, actually I bought 4 of them (work/home), $18 each, when you get more than 3 items from the AT&T online store, they have in stores too.
No beeping, a tiny led that you can easily cover up if so desired.

Wow, that's bad when you have to reinstall the app to make it work. I never had that problem before.
Sent from Josh's iPhone 5 using Tapatalk 2
Almost as bad as having the 'using tapatalk' sig on every single post.
Why do people have that? It can be disabled.

I have found that the Google Voice integration can sound ok and sometimes so bad I have to hang up and call again.
The same for incoming call, sometimes there is a beep every so many seconds, its weird, like someone pressed a key on their phone.
This is when the international integration is used from a Sprint phone in a sprint area, and also when in a roaming area.
To use the Google voice in a Sprint area, I just dial the +number directly.
To use Google voice in a roaming area, I have to dial my own number and then the password and then the 011 number.
Can't use the Google voice +number dialing directly when roaming, have to be in a Sprint area.
A third party is involving in the voice routing, can't recall which it is.

Since that would be Band 41 to Band 25/26, it wouldn't be any different that switching from 3G to 4G, there's a break in the data but that's it.
What do you mean a break in the data, as in lost data packets?
I thought that was not the case, no data lost.
-
Wow that sucks. Why so long?
To spread the amount of tech support calls out over those weeks instead of all in one day.

I like AJ's reasoning better. If California was to separate though, with a GDP of almost $2 trillion, it would manage just fine. That would be the 9th highest GDP in the world.
I don't know, I saw a documentary that contained a guy in a cape flying around. Not much of CA left if that doc story turned out as planned.
-
Wait, what? That can't be right. Especially if last weeks 32GB orders havent shipped yet.
From Google? I got a 32 GB black one yesterday.

just got my phone, she is a beauty, very slim and light, and 'small' for a 5" screen, wow !
the hole to open the sim tray is ridiculously small and no tool included
i had to use a needle and hurt my finger
Its on a piece of paper, in the middle. Look between the warranty booklets.

So I decided not to use my upgrade until 2015. I think that's when the spark phones will be out that supports carrier aggregation that can do up to 1gbps.
Just going to buy the nexus 5 and let that hold me off until then.
*i may use my upgrade for the iPhone 6 and then re sell it for profit*
I'm not using my upgrade until 2034. That is when the super spark part 4 is completed, 1 Tbps should be available by then.
I'm going to use the upgrade to buy an iPhone 21 with 1024G Quads of flash memory with cloaking technology and sell it on Swappa.

I did the same, Hopefully we will see it sooner rather than later!
Also, I just tried getting a SIM through Sprint Chat, and was told that they cannot help and you need to go to a Store. I let the agent know that the stores i went to did not have any in stock and suggested I speak with an online rep. Oh well, fingers crossed that they are in supply when i receive my device.
I got one by calling telesales, tell them what you want "micro SIM for a Nexus5" they will help you.
They put me on hold and spoke with the international dept and sent me an email later that day with the order number, might take a few weeks though they said.

Flagship, hope that word isn't used in 2014.
HTC needs to work on a good button design, or just copy the Nexus layout.
