The presentation was an admission of certain facts/truths that I was hoping wouldn’t be true.

I was hoping Sprint’s “secret sauce” Mobilitie build would defy gravity and the naysayers... it didn’t unfortunately. (Page 3)

I was hoping Sprint’s debt load wouldn’t be insurmountable, but it appears that the company is actually losing competitive scale as time passes (Page 10) and that its debt load (Page 15) will prevent Sprint from making enough capital investments to reverse that trend. (Page 12)

I was hoping there would be more cost-cutting that could help turn things around, but we seem to be near the end of that now (Page 11).

The most stunning admission however is about Sprint’s Postpaid Customer Survivability over 18 months (Page 7)... it’s redacted, but it’s prefaced by “only”... which sounds pretty bad. There’s not a sufficient scale of loyal customers. That’s a death spiral.

As for investment/return... Masa never gave Sprint the necessary capital infusions for it to truly compete. That would have been the “investment/return.” If this merger fails to go through, Masa will be holding nearly the entire bag on this asset which he failed to adequately capitalize. At that point he’ll be relegated to getting a worse deal from another partner (given these disclosures) or be stuck with Sprint as a drag on his portfolio and reputation in its current state. At this point as a Sprint shareholder, I say he deserves either.

Masa really just bought something here in the US just to say he bought it. He should’ve just bought he’s large stage in T-Mobile from the beginning. Because of what what little he did with/for Sprint, he should’nt have been allows to buy it. It was a waste of everyone’s time.

Here's a link to the FCC Filings from where the coverage map and monopole news is from:

    https://ecfsapi.fcc.gov/file/1092573429427/Sprint Ex Parte - FULL Dow Draper Presentation - 9.21.2018 - REDACTED.pdf

There's a lot of other stuff in here too.

Hmm. Gotta say what you must to get this merger to pass. I was pretty shocked with how similar the results of TMo and S are. Worse case if they are denied the merger (highly doubt), Sprint just needs to focus on their current footprint (which they started to do now) and get that together and then expand. They could shine in the 5G world IF they played their cards right.

By first gen, do you mean the 540 (color screen) that wasn't generally available to the public? Or the 545 (e-ink non-backlit display)? I have it on my 545, but haven't powered on my 540 in a while.

I would imagine that it would apply to all versions.

    The 545.

  4. Im thinking about up grading my X to the XS via the sprint promotion. With all the news of the Rf issues with the Max and XS is it really worth it? I would hate to get the XS and my reception is not as good as what I have the X.

The key item we are waiting for is the update of a number of former Clear sites from b41 to full Network Vision (we have lots of permits showing on the premier hunters maps).  Most will have LTE 1900 and LTE 800 added with 4x4 capabilities for better performance at the edge.  No word on whether they will have CDMA.  Also have three permits for new sites plus discussions of others.  But they do not exist until  work is complete.  When work begins the sponsor maps will be updated to show the known permits.

I hope that some of those sites affected are near the intersection of College(southeast expressway) and Petzinger Rd. I haven’t been premier section in a while.

Well I am glad its not just me. I was stunned when I got 3G in the parking lot of the McDonalds on Gender today.

Got .8 up and .9 down with a 500ms ping at my house (in canal)

Im glad Sprint has a 14 day return period. We're going to kick the tires some more but it doesn't look good.

It’s definitely not. From the places I go in Columbus, everything is fine overall. A magic box could help but I don’t think you’ll get it within 14 days.

I have a magic for my apartment and it helps. I get around 5down and 1up without it and with it I push about 20down and 5up.  Not ultra fast but it’s enough for me.

Interesting...so more of a small cell. Nice!

That would solve my problem inside my house but doesn't solve the 500 ping and .8 mbps downstream out in Canal Winchester.
I sent some cash to get access to the sponsor maps...I am wondering where this awful tower actually is located.

I’m on the south east side as well and i’ve never been a fan of Sprints service whenever I go out to Canal.

My market ( El Paso,tx) is a perfect example: from internal upper management.. TMO has one of their biggest market share in the country here and that demand has slowed the network down tremendously... Even, Sprint is faster here now with far less sites then tmo.. So, that tells me TMO need more spectrum and lot more macro towers/small cells which in return will spike their Network investment by about 20% as per the article just to stay above float it seems as there growth still seems to be tremendous

Growth in your market is starting it outpace their resources in spectrum. I would like to think that at the rate them gaining customers the increase in capex would also be lateral.

  9. So if I’m reading this chart correctly, from a 5G front Sprint would/bring speeds that will be competitive with the big two. T-Mobile would be absolutely the slowest (sprint of the 5G world). So this is T-Mobile saying “we need Sprint so that we can keep claiming we are the fastest.” Sprint will be the smallest carrier in coverage but will be able to handle their own in the speed dept and could become a threat.

So according to Sprint care (who knows how accurate this is lol).. Sprint will give it a shot on a nationwide volte launch middle of next year

I kinda take Sprint Care with a grain of salt after my last few interactions with them. Based on the VoLTE map soft launch I saw on here, that's more than a few markets its being launched in.

    Wow...

I would especially like to see the answers to questions 8, 16, 17, 24, 26, 28 and 38 on the Sprint document.

    FCC don’t play...

Really don’t. I’d like to know as well. How they’ve committed to spending $5-$6b per year for the next few years one would think, do you really need the merger?  T-Mobile has spent that much on the network per year and look where it’s gotten them. What they are doing and what they are “claiming” on their merger promo run are two different things.

  12. Each carrier gave their thoughts on their 5G yesterday. Vzw, Sprint and AT&T give some good thoughts overall. However, T-Mobile gave its thoughts that was a eyeroll. They pretty much said that the customer doesn’t care about what is running their phone Conntion as long as it works. If memory serves me correct they said this same thing about coverage. No one cares about coverage in the middle of no where. Now that they have the low band, the new tune is we cover as much as Verizon. I’m sure if they had/have the spectrum for 5G it would be, we will be the fastest and blah blah.

My predictions are Q2 next year ..
Once sprint gets massive mimo more widespread and 4x4 mimo more widespread.
    Sprint should win both.

If they can keep investing this $6b per year yes. If they can win some speed studies it’ll definitely give them good attention and exposure.

No mention of it on the Apple site... Guess we’ll have to wait for word from Sprint... But they do support 600 MHz (Band 71) for T-Mobile/Roaming.
