Looking up the monopole tower (click on image to enlarge). Check out that new Microwave radome bringing in enhanced backhaul. No more T1 backhaul for Marengo! Thank you to S4GRU member runagun for this photo. February 27, 2012.

  12. The shrinkage Seinfeld episode just kills me. I remember my wife looking at me funny when we first saw it back in the 90's. She had this puzzled look on her face and asks, "It shrinks??? Holy crap!"
  13. Our servers are limited to 700MB total at the moment. So I've been very stingy with space. Currently, members are limited to only post images on other servers. If you use the Tapatalk app, they will host the images that you upload to S4GRU on their servers. That's what most of our members are doing at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  14. by Robert Herron Sprint 4G Rollout Updates Monday, February 27, 2012 - 6:01 PM MST Our beloved Sprint today announced that it is putting up for sale $2 Billion in notes to help pay its struggling partner in crime, Clearwire. Sprint also plans to refinance some other debts coming due and pay additional unnamed network upgrades with the proceeds. Sprint only recently raised $4 billion in the debt markets in early December to pay for up front Network Vision costs and to help pay some Clearwire bills, err, uhh, provide initial payments for long term WiMax and LTE usage. This move to the debt markets is critical for Sprint, as it needs billions to initiate and complete the build out of its Network Vision program ($10 Billion) and to fulfill its contract obligations with Apple to carry the iPhone ($15 Billion). These moves are seen as the most critical elements for a Sprint renewal and resurgence to profitability and sustainability. This newest run for more money is an optimistic sign that Sprint believes the market will provide them with cash they need. Sprint will sell notes due in 2017 and 2020. The sale is to be completed March 1st and includes the five-year notes at 9.13% and eight-year debt at 7%, which will be guaranteed by units in Sprint. Source: Business Week
  15. Thanks for the write up. There are a lot of people around S4GRU who would love to see this device come to Sprint. How is the display? I hope it's leaps and bounds better than the Photon. I know I could get addicted to that battery life! - Robert
  16. It's similar to being between LA and Dallas, except we have beautiful mesas and mountains. And the taxes are lower.
  17. I actually cannot come up with any good reason for Sprint not to buy Clearwire at this time, except for possibly the funds to do it. With every dollar they give to Clearwire, they should be demanding further equity in the company. I know that Sprint is afraid of being saddled with Clearwire's debt. But Clearwire is already virtually blackmailing Sprint into making their debt payments when they come due. Sprint pays them now, because they know they cannot lose the spectrum to Clearwire bondholders. So if you are stuck with the debt either way, you might as well take control of the company! That's my two cents!!! - Robert
  18. I hadn't seen that episode in a very long time.
  19. I'm thinking exceptions would be sites that cannot get fiber, nor a microwave line of sight established. There are lots of rural canyons and valleys in the West where this could occur. Also, there could be places that temporarily cannot get the fiber or microwave backhaul they need. But will be able to in a few months.
  20. I can tell you that the New Orleans Sprint market currently has 340 CDMA sites, and will have 344 sites after Network Vision. A net gain of 4. I have no idea within the market where these 4 are going. Hopefully they are all in BTR. I remember early on being told that Sprint was evaluating select iDEN only sites for conversion to host Network Vision. But that was in Spring 2011, and I have not heard it said one more time since. SO I wonder if this plan has been scrapped? I can tell you that in my area, that is not occurring. I have a map with the post Network Vision sites in the ABQ market, and not a single one of the iDEN only sites I know of are being converted to Network Vision. However, in general, we have good PCS spacing here and Nextel didn't have much extra coverage than Sprint in my area. But I know that is not the case NE of BTR. There is a lot of iDEN only coverage in that area. - Robert
  21. Fiber and microwave only for NV sites. There may be a few exceptions, but I hope not many!
