  1. You guys are just falling for the propaganda. They all want us to think the Sprint's failure is imminent, if not even immediate, if the merger is not approved. You guys all mocked Sprint when they first were using hyperbole about their network and prospects when they played that card initially. And now going all ga-ga over the data again as if it was new info and now means even something more or different. This is all OLD NEWS. They want it rehashed and all of you to freak out and over talk about it, so general opinion is that Sprint is going to no longer exist with or without Tmo. But the reality is, as Brad mentioned above, Sprint is in better shape than it was last year, two years ago and five years ago. And also, I don't get the comment that "Softbank is looking for a bailout by any means necessary." Softbank is not looking for a bailout. No request of government giving money to save Sprint financially. That's a bailout. Softbank is looking for a BUYER. It's totally legit to look to sell the company. Why would this be surprising? Masa was discussing selling Sprint within weeks of buying it. That's always been on the table. And frankly, I wouldn't mind for someone to take over than Masa. A tie up with a cable company may be a very good thing for Sprint if the Tmo deal doesn't happen. But I fully expect a legal challenge if not approved. Robert

  2. So I figured out there is a way to check if a phone is using Calling+ or VoLTE without root. If engineering (not SCP) reports the PLMN as 310120, then it is not VoLTE. VoLTE only runs on 312530. That being said, a phone can be on 312530 but not use VoLTE (Pixel 2 for example). So being on 312530 is not sufficient to say that it is using VoLTE, but being on 310120 IS sufficient to rule out VoLTE being used. As for the "flag" Sprint uses to enable/disable it on supported devices, I suspect that they use the TAC. I think there is a hardcoded whitelist of TACs where it will be enabled. So they can change the TACs for a market to "enable" it, but by default it's "disabled". If this is the case, then Magic Box TACs are simply not whitelisted yet, even though it works fine on them. I've verified that VoLTE works on a Magic Box with at least the 440a firmware, and possibly earlier versions as well. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

  3. BTW, over on the Sprint thread about the data loss issues, they are releasing a "test" for this data issue to all the corporate stores. So if you think you are having data issues, head to a corp store tomorrow or after and they can verify your device is affected. I might swing by anyways and have mine tested. I'm not going to get a replacement quite yet if it fails. I'm not convinced they've got a single clue about how to actually fix this mess.

  5. SignalCheck 4.52 is rolling out to the masses! It should be available on Google Play within the hour. Here are the highlights: New options added: Added option to control display of horizontal signal meters on main screen. Added option to control logging of LTE sites if the TAC is missing/invalid. Added option to display LTE bandwidth on Android 9.0+ devices. This is nice, but not 100% reliable on most devices yet. Hopefully this improves over time. Added options to trigger Alerts based on specific LTE bands or plain-text strings. This is pretty cool.. you can choose LTE bands, and/or have the app alert on any text you want (or don't want, by using the "!" character). Set multiple alerts by separating strings with commas. Notable bug fixes: Resolved issue with app failing to exit immediately in certain scenarios. Resolved issue with missing data on Android Q Beta devices. Resolved issue with missing PLMN ID in certain scenarios. Resolved issue with missing provider database on Android 9.0 devices. Resolved issue with Alerts preferences not working properly on Android 8.0+ devices. Most of the Alert preferences are now handled directly by the system. Resolved issue with missing WCDMA data on newer devices. Some of these items were a lot more work than a brief sentence might hint.. many were significant bugs, some users will see great improvements! Other changes: Adjusted animated action bar tower icon colors when idle. Changed device location settings warning to reappear on every app update. Changed primary signal data source on Android 7.0+ devices. Disabled battery-related options for Location Service and Site Logger on Android 8.0+ devices; intend add back in a future update. Android no longer permits third-party apps to monitor power status changes; I am looking for an alternative method. Improved deployment process; releases will now be smaller, more optimized downloads. This is not a large app, but now it's approximately 30% smaller anyway. Thanks for all of your support! Feel free to shout if you have any questions.. -Mike

  6. Mike can only really report the value that the OS returns. The modem uses it to calculate when to send data, so that the eNB will receive it at the right/assigned time. The timing advance is basically an estimate of how much of a delay there will be from when it's transmitted until it's received. Or at least that's my understanding. From the time delay, if you multiply it by the speed of light (in air), you get an approximate distance. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

  7. It has been extremely accurate in my testing on both AT&T and Verizon. It's more reliable than RSRP value alone for identifying cell sites for me.

  8. Well, now I really don't know what's going on with my phone. I verified the lack of B25 data on what I thought were 3 different towers, but then on my way home today, I did get the dead data on B25 where I had in the past....but then I picked up B25 from another tower and it was sending/receiving just fine. Verified by SCP and by LTE engineering. So.....maybe we've got a bad tower or two here. This makes me quite happy if true. My B41^2 are around 70-105 down and 6-15 up.

  9. i loved the s10+ before this. i will add an update that I spent another 2 hours on the phone with samsung today and was directed BACK to repair store for what was supposed to be the final time. This time was not the final time to resolve the issue and samsung will no longer help me without sending my phone to them and going without while i wait. I called Sprint who have been very kind and informative but still unable to help until... i asked to cancel my account with 3 lines for over 17 years with the company. they have me waiting for expedited approval to credit my account the full remaing balance of the s10+ so that i can purchase a working device or i will leave for another carrier. i understand that Sprint is not at fault. but as they say "my hands are tied" and they are my middle man to Samsung. i do not want a penny of my money to go to samsung until the device is working as advertised so this was my only remaining way to do so. Otherwise switching carriers would enable them to pay the majority of the s10+ cost to switch to "lure" me. i will add that if Sprint comes through with this i will remember their effort to retain me as a customer.

  19. Most of this garbled and incoherent. Softbank is not giving up much control. They get 2 seats on the board and voting stock. Had this deal just been about getting cash Softbank would have taken the deal before, when there was no seats and the stock was nonvoting. Mergers never save money in the short term, so it is always about longterm growth and overall profits. Political issues are completely nonsense, modern politics is about the short game. These are going to be freshman congressman.[FYI Congress is both the House and Senate so saying Senate or Congress makes you look ignorant] Congress has already held hearings on this. And we are at regulatory review. All Congress could really do at this point is sue to stop it, which without regulators on there side would be downright stupid.(Not saying it couldn't happen, just that it would be stupid.) Any request for divestment in spectrum is going to come from the FCC not Congress. And has almost certainly been discussed. I doubt any major divestitures will be required as much of the spectrum is the catalyst for the merger in the first place. It is quite apparent that many here simply do not understand the process of mergers or the government involvement in them.

  20. i see the whole merger as a few things...for one a cash cow for softbank ..because in the end it saves lots of cash...and puts some positive cash flow back into soft banks profits...and that this will also make softbank give up pretty much all control to tmobile... now i can definitely say with the new incoming either senate or congress... they will definitely make em divest spectrum.. and other infrasturcture... also i have a feeling there maybe a new MNVO that comes out of this...

  21. Sprint will never go out of business. The only options they have at this point are succeed or get bought out. A carrier with 60 Million customers doesn't just close up shop.

  22. This. They need to be nationwide. Every state. Every mile of interstate, every city over 10,000 people, every mile of every major transportation corridor. I am not pro merger. But I am not fully against it. There will be good things from it. But for me, this is one of the most important foundational requirements. This would be non-negotiable for me.
