It really doesnt make sense not to have this.

 

Theres no need for an airave with wifi calling, and that progrma must cost sprint a bundle. Having wifi calling just makes sense for the customer and the carrier.

 

Would be especially great for international travel.

I was messing around in my Sprint account and came across this. Anyone know what phones are supported? I've never even heard of this outside of T-Mobile.

2 that aren't supported: GS3 and iPhone 5c --  I just checked.  So . . . what IS supported?

I got the message "Oops! The voice wifi access setting cannot be changed because the subscription you're changing is not voice wifi capable" when trying to activate it on my Note 3 on the 3rd-party employee plan.

Only thing I found regarding WiFi calling with Sprint Kyocera devices. Kinda interesting that you can add any SIP service to it. Will keep that in mind when my biz service renews next month.

I considered switching to T-Mobile for half a day when I read up on HD voice and wifi calling. Since Sprint is now becoming very good with data speeds and has great voice quality, the one thing I saw as a nice ability was wifi calling since I have family in the boonies and they don't all have Sprint service but have cable broadband. This could be a huge game changer to some customers who have poor/no service.

Sprint's call quality has always been above par in my opinion, and with the addition of HD Voice, Sprint probably inched out T-Mobile a bit in that area. Although it is available for everyone on T-Mobile and currently it is only available for about 1/3 of Sprint's entire network.

LOL, then I call false advertising. T-mobile boasts about their voice quality compared to AT&T even when in 2G only areas. Unless I'm missing something and they are using two different technologies for voice.

T-Mobile still uses EFR full rate even in 2G areas which is still a step ahead of AT&T. That's how they can advertise enhanced call quality.

That's not strictly true. AMR-WB is supported on all UMTS cell sites that T-Mobile has. It's even supported on newer GSM cell sites, as well. The limiter is whether or not your handset supports the codec. Most handsets released in the last two years have the support built-in.

To bump this older thread, while trying out the new Direct Connect Now app (which is now compatible with phones like the Note 3 and the G2), I came across this page in the setup screen. Very interesting, as I still haven't heard anything about it internally.

I've never seen my Galaxy Note 3 use HD Voice even though I can place a call to my brother who also has a GN3.

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
