Without an R15 sim you won't get 5G SA.

So the One UI 3.0 Beta is out, I signed up for it but when I go to check for an update it says I am up to date. Hmm.

I am not sure if we have any SA 5G around here yet.  Just thinking if we travel out of town somewhere, it might come in handy to have the new sim in my phone.

I switched to Tmobile a couple of years ago.  Sprint wouldn't work inside my house when we retired here.

A new sim was in the box but she just put my old one in the new phone.

I would have used the SIM that came with the phone. Since you already had a T-Mobile line, I'm not sure it makes much difference. That SIM swaps going on are for Sprint customers moving over to T-Mobile.

I have another LG G7 that we are not using, so I thought I would let her do it her way.  If I decided to return the S20 FE, then I could just put my sim card in the 2nd G7 while the return process was going on.

So as I had brought up before on the other page...

Do you think part of my problem is a Sprint sim, that came with the s20. And that I should go get a Tmo sim...

All I know, is this data issue, and others having calling issues... is beginning to piss me off.. its wasting my time, and costing me money..

not to mention the others s20s, in my house being bugged by it, thus bugging me...

If you still technically have a Sprint line, the SIM that came with your phone is the correct one for it. The S20 series does not need a different SIM to operate natively on the T-Mobile network.

I got the Android 11/OneUI 3 beta update yesterday. My phone is reasonably reliable again, mobile hotspot config works properly again, WiFi works consistently, no more constant crashes...there are a few rough edges still I think, but my opinion has gone from "don't install this" to "probably fine to install this"

Does the s20 fe need an update to get Standalone 5g?  I see where the other s20 versions did get an update for that awhile back.

Since that phone just launched it might have SA support out of the box.

I'm sure it's supported so long as you're on TNX with T-Mobile otherwise on ROMAHOME you won't get SA support.

Any idea how I could tell?
If it works on your phone the easiest way to tell is to go into *#2263# and tap on NR5G band preference, then see if NR B71 SA is listed as an option. If you only have NSA then SA hasn't been enabled on your phone. 855d71be30b4ead9c328ea9231a8a086.jpg

I have never gone into the engineering screens.  Is that where you open the dialer and enter those codes?

Yes, if it works it will open up as soon as you type the last #.

*#0011# is the other code i use all the time.

Interesting, it works on my T-Mobile Samsung devices (S20 and Tab S6) and on my AT&T S20 Ultra, though on the AT&T phone I have to reboot with the SIM out to get into that menu. With the SIM in it just says this:

Ok so something new happened today.. say least 2 calls didn't come through.. I was at home so on WiFi calling..  but there's a twist.

It went to some other number.. don't know who just wasn't me. Had a customer, ask someone to call me, they asked if I changed my number. So my customer called me... Same thing,  some other number.

Only way I found out, she emailed me about it..  I tried and it worked fine.. One called from a Comcast VoIP. The other was Verizon.

I realize this isn't "phone" related.. but I don't know where to put it lol... All these quirks are driving me crazy.. what do you think happened there?

I never had good experiences with WiFI Calling, best to leave it disabled.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
