Meanwhile Dish issues its 3rd RFP for its 5G network:

"Dish Networks is moving forward with requests for proposal (RFPs) for its standalone 5G broadband network, despite the fact that it’s contingent on the merger of T-Mobile and Sprint, and that merger is not a definite thing, yet.

 

If the T-Mobile/Sprint deal goes through, Dish has committed to build a standalone 5G broadband network available to at least 70% of the U.S. population by June 2023. That’s a tight timeline for such a wireless network.

Today, Dish announced it will release an RFP for end-to-end deployment services vendors. The satellite TV company said this will be its third RFP in a series for different elements of its planned nationwide 5G network. The Deployment Services RFP will be released the week of October 28. It will include requests for pre-construction services including site acquisition, architecture and engineering and utility coordination. And it will also include construction services such as civil engineering, electrical engineering, network element installation and tower climbing."

We're a month and a half away from the start of the trial. My guess is a few more states drop out as we get closer to December 9. I really hope Texas pushes for more rural coverage from T-Mobile and that Dish covers urban areas + interstate highways. There are so many back roads that are crucial to O&G where only At&t has coverage. It's time they get some competition.

Yeah, those FTM roads are not very well covered by anybody including AT&T. It's just that AT&T covers them better than the other carriers. I hope that Texas and California and New York do extract concessions from T-Mobile on rural coverage.

If nobody covers them well now, it doesn't seem like a valid condition for dropping out of the suit to me. I can see some saying it's less likely to happen with one less major carrier, but I'm not convinced there will still be four very long if the merger doesn't happen.

This merger is a complete farce.

This, along with the billions it has sunk into other ventures shows that SoftBank could have funded a massive capital expenditure for Sprint to right the ship, and that it could have provided funds for Sprint to acquire a substantial amount of 600 MHz spectrum in the auction.

Of course, one of the primary justifications Sprint has given for the merger is its lack of lowband spectrum. Go figure.

That's why SoftBank was another one of Sprints bad choices. Dish wanted time at the same time and that would have been a very choice.

The neglect of Sprint by Softbank verges on the criminal. I am not 100% that Dish would have been any better. At least they would  brought in some mid band spectrum and probably could devote some of their cash flow to prop up Sprint. Dish's play at the time was to be spectrum speculators.

When this merger is complete, I hope whatever money Softbank sinks into whatever company just fails. It was a real missed opportunity being that Sprint had the brightest future (starting to show now with their ease in deploying 5G). SoftBank just wasn’t the right company to take on a real challenge that was Sprint and coming up with way to improve them for the long term.

Previously on my pixel 2xl, anytime I was on TMobile, it showed a roaming indicator

Hit or miss for me, sometimes it shows as roaming and other times not.

That isn't just giving them money though.  Nothing is ever for free.  It looks like part ownership and part financing.  

Softbank already did something similar with Sprint after they bought the,.  Sprint's did huge lease backs with Softbank shell companies to raise billions of dollars, almost $7 billion that I am aware of.

Big Announcement for "New T Mobile" next week, November 7th.    Have a feeling it's the availability of Nationwide 5G and possibly some plan details too??   Stay tuned.         The most interesting thing about this is that it will be presented as New T Mobile  and not T Mobile.

That is my assumption as well.    New T Mobile = T Mobile + Sprint

As much as I don’t want to see Sprint disappear, I’m just them to rip the band aid off now. I just hope Tidal and Hulu are kept and added to future plans.

Yeah, I found his comments to be kind of sharp and pointed.   But the main point I got out of it was at the end.  His opinion that Sprint will be sold off in bits eventually if the merger fails.   Again, his opinion.
