VoLTE is available in the Las Vegas Market, and I was able to make and receive calls on it. However, in weaker signal areas it doesn't sound good. No VoLTE in T-Mobile LTE areas though. I wonder if using a Static IP on my Sprint account would fix that. Anyone have any idea if that might help?

I don’t believe a static IP would help. 

You mentioned that call quality was not good in low signal areas, but did you experience any/many dropped calls?

Nope. No call drops on VoLTE for the calls I have made. I have had more CDMA call drops with the XS Max, but that was expected with the Intel Modem.

That’s good to hear. Have you tested how weak (dBm-wise) LTE signal can get before dropping to CDMA while on a VoLTE call? I believe you can see dBm values updated every second or so in the Intel field test...

You don't drop to CDMA and carryover a VoLTE call. It goes from VoLTE to no service, and the call drops.

I know that my signal at my house for Sprint LTE isn’t the strongest, but it’s decent. Can use data without WiFi. So far the worst dead spot for VoLTE is my bathroom. I’m using WiFi calling in my house. I’ll have to see if I’ll drop calls from WiFi calling to VoLTE later when I get off work.

Yes, that is correct.

This is not necessarily true. You can drop from LTE to CDMA and drop the call (as CDMA pretty much always has better range and propagation than LTE at the same frequency). I’m curious what signal level LTE gives up at while on a VoLTE call.

If it's anything like T-Mobile's VoLTE, it will be highly variable.  Depending on channel width, signal quality, throughput rate and most importantly, the uplink connection from the device back to the network.  Since devices are very variable on the uplink quality and signal strength, this is really the deciding factor for disconnect on a VoLTE call, not the received signal RSSI (or RSRP).  This is true of CDMA too.  It's the uplink from the device that goes out of range first.

I got the update on my v30+ this morning.  VoLTE is turned off by default.  Enabled it, but doesn't look like its active yet in my area (Sacramento, CA).  Quick test call and no indication of VoLTE, and noted the cell signal droped the LTE tag when on the call, just as it did previously.  I'll play around with it later to see if there's any change.

It's been live since the 2nd week of October.

Turn it on and leave it be for about a hour and it will provision automatically.

My brother's V30+ finally got the update last night, VoLTE showing up in the menu. Don't know if he has tried it yet. In the last two billing cycles, he has used a total of 2 minutes of call time... so I doubt I'll get a report haha.

Now if they could push the update to the G7... I'll be happy :D

I mentioned it earlier the Tampa market thread, but i made my first VoLTE call today on my iPhone XS.

I got a spam call during a game I was playing. Normally this cuts off my data session and it takes a while to reload, but this time after declining the call, the game carried on like nothing happened. I thought that was odd and checked the carrier info on my iPhone XS and saw IMS was active for SMS and Voice. Woohoo!

I have it on my S8. It's sounds amazing and the calls go thru faster than CDMA. I love it

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
