N41 increased to 80MHz in Louisville finally. I'll get some tests tonight on my way home.

Nice! Still 40Mhz here. Will be very interested to see the performance on that.

Heres some tests from a few places as I drove home, interestingly not all sites were at 80MHz, a couple were still 60MHz. Some of these were stationary and some were while moving. I was even able to hit almost 200mbps in my basement on the far side from the tower about 3/4 miles away. The last time I tested my home site at 2AM the best I could get was 525 down, so this easily tops that at just shy of 700mbps.

After seeing a ton of these n41 speed tests on sites with anywhere from 40-80MHz of spectrum I'm beginning to suspect that T-Mobile is intentionally limiting themselves with regard to backhaul. Speed tests greater than 700Mbps seem few and far between, even in ideal conditions.

Does anyone know if T-Mobile has plans to keep expanding their network?  Maybe not right now, while they are focused on rolling out 5G, but maybe in a year or 2, expanding to uncovered areas?

Just wondering.

Last I heard, T-Mobile plans to boost their number of macro sites from 65K (pre-merger) to 85K over the next five years. Between 10-15K of those sites are Sprint conversions, whereas the rest are greenfield builds.

I know for here in KY they have a lot of work to do to get on the same level as AT&T and Verizon. But T-Mobile did have better native rural coverage here than Sprint, Sprint just roamed on Bluegrass Cellular.

They're currently building out in rural areas around Seattle.

That's good to hear.  Wondering if they will keep building out where my parents live, in eastern NC.

They're still doing new builds in eastern NC. Just east of Greenville in Chocowinity there used to be no coverage but as recently as January a new site went live there. The T-Mobile coverage map still shows that there's almost no coverage there but if you drove by today you'd have full signal.

Are they doing a native LTE build out?

Yup. The site has both LTE and n71.

That's very good. I'm glad to see T-Mobile building out there coverage. I have T-Mobile they have tremendously improved their LTE coverage in my area along with fringe coverage performance. Hope to see more improvements.

End of 2023 is a long time from now.

Will wait and see how coverage really is. In my area, TMobile still has a hell of a lot of work to do to be on par with AT&T/VZW.  Hopefully the extra 20k macro sites are strictly for suburban/rural coverage.  Here where I am, if they end up keeping the Sprint sites that don't have TMobile on them they will do very well. But hopefully sooner than later. :)

In Columbus OH we have about 10 permits now to convert Sprint only sites. We have about 40 permits to convert Sprint colocated sites to Starry.com, a WISP that plans to come to town. Permits here are good for 12 months. If they start work they get a six month extension.

I haven't seen any permits yet around here, and I've been checking several non-collocated sites around me in Alexandria and Fairfax County.

And, of course, the Shentel sale hasn't closed, so nothing's happening there yet.  I'm waiting to see 312250 show up there.

I've noticed around here that since B2 was widened to 15x15 that older non-upgraded sites are still only 10x10, even through they are using the same new EARFCN (Previously B2 was EARFCN 1051). I wonder if its a limitation of the older radios?

I've also noticed here that all of the N41 sites with the older Nokia M-MIMO gear is still only at 60MHz, but the newer Nokia gear is all at 80 MHz. Both have 2 20MHz LTE carriers as well. If this is some limitation of the old gear I bet we see them start swapping those out soon with the newer version.

It's an instantaneous bandwidth limitation. The new AEHCs are much better with a limit of 194 MHz IBW/190 MHz OBW.

What’s the perks of switching to a T-Mobile sim?

I currently have ROAMAHOME active on my account.

The salesperson at the store gets a commission.

Make certain it is the strongest signal where you need it.  They don't really want you to change back --  ie get a free line first with a t-mobile sim if you need to test).

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
