I know we have a good number of members up in the northeast. Looking through the forecasts, as I'm sure you've heard, a pretty good snowstorm is getting ready to pummel those of you from New Jersey to Maine! Blizzard Warnings are up for a good portion of the coastal region, with winter storm warnings inland.

 

Averaging out the model forecast, and National Weather Service official products, a swath of 15 to 30 inches of snow looks like a good bet from the NYC area northeast through Connecticut, Rhode Island, much of Massachusetts into eastern Maine.

I curious to hear your all's experiences and maybe some pictures too! (It hasn't snowed hardly at all here :( )

Us Midwesterners laugh when it snows down south. Like every year when Atlanta gets 1" of snow or a few tenths of an inch of ice, the whole city shuts down, cars get abandoned on roads, and people die.

I will still believe it when i see it, at least what they are saying we will get now.  Until this morning this storm was a complete miss for us and now its some big monster.

 

Well, I can't speak to the forecasters up there, but the models have been pretty consistent with the snowfall amounts being in the high category. The area affected has increased somewhat over the last couple of days.

Hmm. Something tells me that as usual we won't really be getting anything down here.

 

But I'd definitely rather have no snow than a freaking blizzard! Good luck to those in the northeast!

It looks like I am in the area near the boundary of a minor inconvenience and a good (but not epic) snow fall. I am glad I am not in central Jersey or points NE of there...

One thing about the weather in the Northeast.. Anything is possible but believe when I see it is true!!!

And even when we see it.... We already saw it before!!!!

I'm missing the brunt of the storm in NYC but I'm still in Boston which is supposed to get up to 25 inches of snow. That's on rope of the 6-8 inches we got a day ago.

 

I would say Boston might be in for it more than NYC with this one. Winds likely to be worse in Boston, near Hurricane strength.

In my experience with the two, NYC is much more windy than Boston. NYC's is surrounded by water and in certain parts the buildings just amplify it.

Actually, Boston is the windiest big city (12.4 mph average vs. NYC of 11.1 mph).

 

Buildings definitely do amplify it though.  If you want to feel some wind amplification, just hang out in the back bay by the john hancock tower.  Out by BC, you are likely getting a lot less wind.

 

Also, if you think about Boston, it's also surrounded by water.

I'm in Boston today for work. Im supposed to leave tomorrow but I'm not sure how that's going to work out. Might try to get out tonight but I'm heading back to Jersey which is just as bad.

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
