I'm not sure whether or not a legal case against Craig Moffett, John Legere, and/or T-Mobile by Sprint/Marcelo in whatever form it may/may not or even could happen, but the thought of it did enter my mind. There have been some good points made here both for and against it, but if it were possible and happened, I hope Sprint and/or Marcelo find some sort of compensation in this.

At the very least, I'd like to see DT fire John Legere over this, regardless of whatever they think he's done good for T-Mobile. It'll also be interesting if there is anything said in the media about this today, though it sure didn't seem as they cared much about it yesterday. I definitely see a double standard here getting worse by the media against Sprint whenever T-Mobile and John Legere attacks. It all really needs to stop.

I think a legal case would be rough to prove, but I think the other competitors in the market may have an incentive to smack Legere down. Verizon is starting with the Never Settle campaign, and the indication is that it's working. They did the best to halt T-Mobile's progress.

I do wish VZW would really challenge legally on Fastest LTE network. They would win that.

- Premium network that, if you use NetIndex or Root, is the fastest in the country.

- Best coverage in rural areas

- Best in building

Commercial idea would be a caricature of Legere talking like a crazy person, then a giant map falling on him and silencing him, with the caption "We let our network talk for us.

#1 in RootMetrics.

#1 on Speed Test.

#1 in customer loyalty.

Never settle for loud talk."

Craig Moffett is definitely saying what he's saying to create a panic. Scary part is, he moved the stock 8% by spewing that bile. That's a major problem. He's clearly proven he can influence the stock.

Clearly, and this is not the first time that he's done this to S.

Add David Beckham kicking a soccer ball that knocks down that giant map that falls on

Legere and you will have a perfect commercial.

Gotta get AT&T in there too somehow.  VZW, AT&T, and Sprint all team up and make a commercial against TMobile?   Would be glorious.  lol

For the commercial, put Steve Buscemi in a pink T-shirt and jeans.  He could make a mockery of John Legere.

Where's Crazy Eddie when you need him. He can stand in for Legere as well.

Of course no one outside of the Tri-State NYC area will know who Eddie was though. But their stories are ironically similar. Both crooks and liars. lol

Steve Buscemi is an excellent choice though.

Somehow I think the FCC should hold the spectrum reserved screen to 30mhz. This Legere guy is always bragging about taking customers away from the other three, and at the same time begging the FCC for a bailout.

Another good Legere parody actor could be Toby Huss.  And for added value, you Tri-Staters who were cognizant in the 1990s will get a kick out of this.

And that was over 3 years ago.  And Sprint is stronger now than they were then.  Why anyone gives that blowhard a megaphone, I'll never know.  He already has been debunked 1,000 times over.  But lots of people like to have their ears tickled about Sprint in a negative way, that they don't care what he's saying.  No matter how inaccurate.  As long as they enjoy what he is saying.

I would agree with you, but the larger reserve doesn't just benefit T-Mobile. It also helps Sprint and small regionals (the ones who really need the reserve to survive; for whom the reserve was originally created for and intended to benefit).

I wish Legere would get it up to 40 MHz nationwide. Then SoftBank would outbid everyone for 20x20 LTE nationwide. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Lol and he'll cry unfair about that. I'm just waiting for the news article to pop out saying that SoftBank is funding Sprint for the auction. That right there alone will shine a light on T-Mobile and not a good one. The writing was on the wall anyways. For T-Mobile to lobby hard for a reserve tells that the parent company is not helping them. If they were this lobbying wouldn't exist.

This is why Legere was pushing behind the scenes for a joint venture. If SoftBank goes all out, and there's a GOP administration in 2017+ that might be more friendly toward mobile mergers, Legere loses leverage.

This might also explain why people are trying to push PANIC in Sprint before the auction. Say "bankrupt" enough times so it comes true. The only way T-Mobile's strategy can win is fewer competitors in the marketplace. That's why Legere is investing so much energy in trying to marginalize Sprint. It also would give T-Mobile free run at that 15x15 or 20x20.

The sad part is... In spite of the better efforts of the FCC, the market may be proving that it can't support four competitors.

Am I concerned? Hell yes, I am deeply concerned.

Nobody beats the Wiz... not even Crazy Eddie.

(Lived in Long Beach Long Island 1990-1991 worked in Rockville Centre)

Personally I'd prefer Legere in a "cut in half" commercial with the weed whacker chick going after his hair while he's being chainsawed.

The wording doesn't exactly flow. But it works.

"Nobody beats Sprint in Kansas City!" is how I would word it, then show the first place Root results and #1 overall (tied) ribbon. I'd also rub T-Mobile's face in it somewhere for good measure.

Seems strange to have "in a tie" in the messaging...

I agree.  I immediately thought the same when I looked at the envelope.  If a sports team is tied for #1 in a poll, people still say, "We're #1!"  They do not say, "We're #1 -- in a tie."  The same holds true for two Olympic gold medalists who tie.  Each rightly can present himself as "Olympic gold medalist" or "Olympic champion" -- no "in a tie" disclaimer necessary.

But there is more to this Sprint story.  I listen to a lot of AM talk radio, which is known for running numerous promo spots per hour.  Shortly after the RootMetrics Kansas City testing was released a few weeks ago, the Sprint promo spots started.  The voiceover made no mention of "in a tie."  However, that was changed.  It does now, as does the marketing collateral that I received from Marcelo in the mail.

My guess is that VZW's legal team threw a hissyfit.  Or VZW pouted and leaned on RootMetrics to force Sprint to clarify its claim.  Any way you cut it -- even if the directive came independently from RootMetrics -- it is silly.

VZW, though, has not taken well to Sprint reassuming the top spot -- in a tie -- in KC.  VZW put together some sort of press kit, trumpeting its LTE coverage across the state of Kansas, and leaked it to a KC Star business writer, Mark Davis, whom Robert and I have personally assisted in prior stories that he has written.  Mark is not that well versed in wireless, so he bought the VZW spin hook, line, and sinker.

The sad part is that VZW has relatively low market share in KC, so that inflates its data speeds.  And VZW has extensive coverage around KC only because it bought out what Alltel and predecessors actually built.  Without those factors, VZW could not compete with Sprint in KC.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
