My band 26 RSRP is very strong. I'm definitely not at the edge.

I should note that there is very good band 25 available and I'm in Grand Forks which has service. I can see three Sprint towers from my apartment. For some reason my phone jumps on band 26 even when there is strong band 25 available.

What Sprint needs in your area and the rest of the country is 25+26 CA. Including 25+25+26

Curious what constitutes an eligible plan... This is a way to “charge more” for 5G without explicitly saying it.

I guess Sprint wants to see the reaction from the media/customers before announcing anything concrete. If there is an extra charge for 5G on old plans, I'd be shocked.

I hope you’re right.

It currently says here that the Unlimited Premium Plan is required for 5G. Of course, that could be changed going forward, but Sprint put it in writing.

Another requirement for 5G per the FAQs is that you have VoLTE enabled on your 5G-capable device.

Can you talk and surf over 5G or do we have to wait 5+ years for that to?

It says this in the FAQ’s:

VoLTE is a simple toggle switch and will be set to “ON” as the default setting for 5G capable devices that become available. But in case it’s turned off, you can easily switch it back on by following the steps below.

Android Phones: Go to Settings > Connections or Network & internet > Voice Networks.  Set the VoLTE toggle to On.

iOS Phones:  Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE > Select Voice and Data

VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is the next generation of voice service for your phone. VoLTE will direct your voice calls over Sprint’s advanced LTE network instead of the our traditional wireless voice network. VoLTE will provide superior voice quality and allow you to browse the Internet and use data-driven apps while on a call. VoLTE must be enabled on your device to experience our 5G network where available.

I know how to turn it on. I was asking if you can talk and surf on 5G or if it turns off during a call and will drop to LTE. Still no VOLTE for me.[emoji849]

Ah. Good question.

Would the FCC docs for the device indicate if this happens?

Unless you are rooted or modded your phone it isn't VoLTE. It is calling plus which most phones can do.

Yeah really annoying. I don't know why the don't enable it. The S8 has had it for about 8 months now. Also b25+26 should have been a thing a while ago. There is really no good excuse for this but that's Sprint for you. They did say they will be the first network with a full volte virtual core though.

Yeah and the unlocked model does even have the option for 25+26 or 25+41. Only 25+25 and 3x41

I think I bought my last Samsung phone.  They no longer have their act together.  Other options are out there.

I think it's a Sprint issue. Don't see this on Att,VZW or TMO

This is all Sprint. They don't have it together. Samsung phones could do this Sprint just won't enable and roll it out. I bet they are waiting for the merger and if not then they will roll it out.

I understand that. Just saying it isn't VoLTE. it works different. Calling Plus has no QOS which means when in bad coverage areas you can get have poor quality calls. I wish they would put activate it for us G7 users. I see myself having the V50 before it comes

I'm going to go ahead and say yes. All the 5G markets currently have VoLTE. So falling back to LTE for phone calls seems like the logical thing to do.

I *think* that the 5G spec allows carrier aggregation between 5G and LTE. I'm not sure if Sprint has implemented that yet.

So guess is that it will work natively on 5G without dropping to LTE. The fact that they can be aggregated and are fully backwards compatible implies that they have the equivalent of EUTRA sessions. One of the big selling points of 5G is the ability to do fine grained QoS and such. So VoLTE (or VoNR?) seems perfect for 5G.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
