Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Correct.

The only brick and mortar store I could imagine offering a lower price would be Sam's Club, and that only by a matter of dollars, not matching Verizon / AT&T's $299.99.

Unfortunately, Sprint seems to know they can pluck an extra $50 out of Galaxy Note users on their network. Don't know why they do this to Galaxy Note in particular, and not other popular phones.

Anybody know when someone will do a RF review?

I think Robert commented at least on a basic glace at the FCC report that it was middle of the road, maybe similar to the S5 (which isn't a great benchmark to equal)

I missed Robert's comment on the GN4. That's disappointing. Top of the line phone, middle of the road RF performance. One would think these manufacturers would strive to be the best.

Why? People will just blame the network if you he phone has signal problems.

No doubt. Remember the EVO LTE?

It's not just the Note. Sprint priced the S4 at $249 last year when the other carriers sold it for $199. That's one reason I'm glad my upgrade is Jan. 1. If I decide to get the Note 4, it'll likely be in the timeframe where it'll be on sale at third-party retailers.

Anyone preordering with best buy to try and get the $200 gift card from them?

I just tried online with no success.  Apparently the pre-order with trade doesn't allow in store pick up on the website.  The online rep I just chatted with specifically stated that the GC is available in store only and not able to be used toward the GN4 purchase.  Any one know otherwise.  I am hoping he just didn't know because he isn't in the stores when these things launch and is just not familiar with the process.

Unfortunately that is true!  The Sprint network here in Harrisburg is really getting awesome.  Signal levels (dBm) are up in many new places each day.  Places where you had a difficult time getting a signal are now strong.  Band 25 and Band 26.

I intend to.

In the past I've done Best Buy's register your phone and get a $50 gift card when you upgrade. When I did that, they applied the $50 right there towards the phone's purchase price.

Haven't heard of the $50 promo. How does one go about doing that?

Is this measured by hardware only or hardware and software? I've been told Nexus 5 has top RF test results, but a quick search in the Nexus 5 forum shows it's been mired in reception problems. My N5 reception is better than it ever has been, but I can't say it's the best phone I've had reception with.

Bottom line is reception is an equation involving the hardware (phone and towers), the drivers and the network and how well they all play together.

I believe it based purely on the FCC reports that show the hardware's radiated energy. The characteristics of look like the GS5 so it seems likely to perform about the same.

If you want to play with the Note 4, Best Buy has it on display in their Samsung area. They even have the Edge!

I didn't have much time to spend with it. The display of course is great and it feels solid with the metal edge.

    • Shoot me a diagnostic if you can catch this again! Invalid signal levels should automatically be filtered out.   Yeah, B66 and B71 are natively reported wrong on many devices due to an Android bug. SignalCheck tries to catch these and report them as B66/B71, but it's tricky because in some instances the incorrect band is actually a possible valid result. I'm not aware of B7 showing up, if someone catches that please send a diagnostic.. it is likely B66/B71 being reported incorrectly but not getting caught.
    • The report you sent showed the app was displaying B2 and the icon at the time was also B2--I checked the graphics to make sure the B2 icon didn't actually say B71, LOL.. if it happens again send another report! I don't recall any recent reports of the notification icon falling out of sync with the app itself.
    • Your G4 is running Android 6.0, which does not report EARFCN info. SignalCheck is displaying it as band 41 because PLMN ID 311490 is leading it to believe that it is a former Clear site, so it defaults to B41 unless another band is identified another way. With 311490 now being used during the merger transition, it's throwing things off. Unfortunately the app isn't going to be able to know if it's a Clear site or a merger-related thing.. perhaps I'll just remove the default band for now, since newer devices will be able to figure it out anyway. These multiple PLMNs are going to be even more problematic than they were before, because they aren't being used the same way in every market.
    • Because just like any other network, they can't guarantee coverage everywhere.
    • With all of vzws coverage why would they need roaming? Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk
