I already own a Mifi 4082.  I currently use the new LTE Mifi as my home internet connection (no DSL or cable here), and want to take it with me on vacation.  I'd like to leave my old Mifi at home so the person who is house sitting will have a connection.

Anyone know of an MVNO (or, Sprint?) that will let me pay for an inexpensive plan for a week?  (or 1 month?)  I thought Sprint used to do that, but I couldn't find it anywhere on their website.

The first thing that comes to mind is FreedomPop.

 

They used to use Sprint WiMax for 4G, I believe they now offer LTE services, but I'm not sure through which carriers.

Freedompop till now is still Sprint Only. And it is LTE

I looked at their website and I entered my ESN and said they didn't offer that one ... Even though it was listed as a supported device.

Well that sucks. Might try calling or some other support. Not sure who else is out there.

A family member was able to add hotspot to their smartphone for a month. Is that an option?

 

Usually if you call they have access to a lot of options that aren't available online.

Just use your phone as a hot spot. Make sure you turn the service off by calling customer service. Last I checked they will pro rate you for the month.

It might be your cheapest option. I have an old 3g MIFI that I tried to activate and Sprint would not give me a plan cheaper than $50 a month. If you go with freedom pop you have to buy the device unsubsidized.

The current lte hot spot plans are $35/50/80. Usb stick lte hotspots and 3g hot spots have 50/80 plans.

If you can get them to apply new plans to old hot spots then you are better than me. Besides, he would have to sign up for a new plan. Not sure if they will let you go month to month.

I was without internet for about a week, as I moved and was in the process of getting cable installed.  I activated the Hot Spot feature on my phone to tie me over.  I go the cheapest plan ($20?). I called and deactivated it several days later, once my cable internet was installed at my new home.  I think I used about 1.7GB of LTE data over that week via my phones Hot Spot.  Service was great and price was unbeatable.  And, the price was pro rated. I didn't run any e-penis tests but, it was just as good as the 25/5 my cable ISP ended up installing. And to think, this was in a market not yet launched by Sprint.  I couldn't have been more happy.

Ben brings up a good point. You can add the hotspot plan ($20 for 2GB) to your phone pretty easily. If you only leave it on there for a week, it is prorated down to that week charge ($5).

Check tmobile coverage in area you're going to be visiting. Get test drive phone from tmobile. Use hotspot (I beleive 3gb is offered)! Free hotspot for a week. Genius!

If you want and depending if you could live off of 3g for a week, try a virgin mobile Hotspot.

Virgin sells a Triband Hotspot.

Oh I couldn't remember. But Nice to know, it is the Mifi 500 Im guessing?

I live with 3G as my home internet everyday!

Maybe look into Virgin Mobile,  they have a per day plan iirc.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.

      At some point over the weekend, T-Mobile bumped the Omaha metro from 100+40 to 100+90 of n41! That's a pretty large increase from what we had just a few weeks ago when we were sitting at 80+40Mhz. Out of curiosity, tested a site on my way to work and pulled 1.4Gpbs. That's the fastest I've ever gotten on T-Mobile! For those that know Omaha, this was on Dodge street in Midtown so not exactly a quiet area!

      Drove out into the country today.  Dish stuck to my phone like glue. At least -120 rsrp. Likely only good for phone calls (should have tested.) It then switched to T-Mobile. Getting back on Dish was another issue. I am used to dragging out coverage so I expected a few miles, but had to drive at least 10 miles towards a Dish site. Airplane mode, which worked for Sprint, did nothing. Rebooting did nothing. Finally got it to change over about 2 miles from the site by manually setting the carrier to Dish then it had great reception. Sprint used to have a 15 minute timeout but I did not have the patience today.  Previously I did a speed test on Dish out in the country at the edge of Dish coverage. My speeds were 2g variety. Dish has really overclocked some of these sites. Seen rssp readings in the 50s. Would have called them boomer sites with Sprint but much  more common with Dish.
