Nope, the 3 towers on NIU's campus don't have LTE....yet. You might be able to pick up LTE from the tower on University Road south of Malta.

Anyone know why the camera is magnified?

 

My camera ain't magnified.  I done stuck it on them there fridge.  But it don't stay.

Hmm... I must admit the battery life I'm experiencing is not real great. With my Evo LTE I was able to make it the entire day (5pm) before needing to charge if I had to charge then. With the N5, it's 3:30 and I'm at 14%. When I'm working from home with Wifi on, I don't experience the battery problems near as much. I know the service at work is having an impact, but I thought I would have the same if not real similar battery with this device. Maybe it's Play Services? My phone doesn't seem to want to sleep for any amount of time. I also wonder if the merge of Hangouts into the SMS client is part of the problem. I don't have reliable internet data (1X constantly) and wonder if that is part to blame.

Enable developer options, switch runtime to ART.

 

My battery life has improved quite a bit. Used to be sitting at 60% after 8 hours.

Yeah, ART gets better battery life. I have seen a few more examples of this as well.

Do the apps you're running need to be optimized to take advantage of ART? On xda I think there is a different version of gapps for ART.

When I switched it re-optimized all my apps for ART. I'm not rooted at the moment, so everything is either stock or plain Google Play.

I saw that but didn't think LG would add a magnetized lens for a 3rd party accessory.

 

The lenses have been around for a while, I think they just did it to make their product appeal to that niche. But who knows.

Apps don't necessarily need to be "optimized" for ART, but many apps still are not compatible with ART, hence the option being in developer options.

Can (or have you) tried streaming a live station?  From what I've seen (and experienced), custom playlists work, but playing just a plain old station like it's on the air doesn't, or at least overwhelmingly doesn't (have heard people say they find a station here and there that does).

 

I only ask because I'm one of the ones it doesn't work for, which unless we're the very vocal minority, appears to be pretty widespread.  Exceptionally negative reviews on the Play store if you sort by device and check the N5 users.

So KitKat and the Nexus 5 have the feature where if a business calls you, then Google will pull up their information (name, address, etc) for you. How well does this work without SVDO and SVLTE?

It doesn't work in my experience, unless I'm connected to Wi-Fi. It would probably work connected to GSM, though (not LTE).

 

On an unrelated note, last night I found that long pressing the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Location quick tiles will toggle them on/off. I was only used to the [superior] CM functionality, and never thought to long-press them before. Can't wait for stable CM 11.

      Unable to confirm if it's really off but I noticed this morning that I'm no longer connecting to Band 41 on my home site. Switching my phone to LTE-only pretty much always put me on Band 41 since it was the least used band on T-Mobile's network. Now I'm only able to connect to Band 2/66. Not complaining because it means speeds are faster on LTE and maybe 150MHz n41 is around the corner.

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
