Nexus 5 Accessories

Ok, so now that many of us have a Nexus 5 on the way, what accessories are you eyeing? Cases, wireless charging mats, etc...

I've never liked cases, but I'm usually a bit paranoid when if it's buy and try a case for a bit. Then the newness wears off and I ditch the case. I've always thought that if I am paying for a $400+ piece of hardware, I shouldn't feel like I'm holding a bulky plastic $5 case.

So what accessories have you ordered or are you planning to?

Spigen Steinheil screen protectors (one of the best SP money can buy)

Is that German engineering?  Sieg heil, Spigen Steinheil!

I bought new a X-Way Accessory kit for dash mount. So I will need some kind of case. Not a whole lot 3rd party out there yet and I dont plan on paying $35 for a case.

Not a ton of options, but Amazon has a handful of makers out there.

I don't like the gel cases (find it "grabby") on the inside of pants pocket, but I don't want bulky plastic either. What's the best option or material to look for?

Do they get exact dimension listings for size and for the cutouts from the manufacturer? Wondering how they could be super accurate when no one has one.

It is. Spigen has multiple deals up... good stuff.

Well I see that they are selling the case by itself for $25 on their own website but their official ebay store has that deal. I'm not getting mine until like November 30, but i might get this now anyways.

I ordered 3 different Cruzerlite cases (buy 2, get 1 free) via Amazon; I've had a Cruzerlite TPU case on my Evo 4G LTE since I bought it and have been pretty happy. One of the cases (black Experience) already came today (occasionally I get Prime orders in one day), beating the phone by a weekend; the other two I ordered (blue Androidified and blue Spi-Force; the latter has the stand built in) weren't Prime eligible and are apparently being shipped by the manufacturer.

In the same order I also picked up this iBolt car mount, which as far as I can tell so far is identical to the car mounts they sell for Android devices for $40; it works fine with my Nexus 4 and Evo 4G LTE, at least. iBolt was the OEM for the "official" Sprint Evo 4G LTE dock.

Did you watch the video? The X-Way and Fix Way are universal to any smartphone/gps. Its just a dash mount or vent mount. They are really nice and don't ubstruct the view of the screen at all. They hold really well as well.

My apologies, no I didn't because I was on a pretty sparse sprint connection at the time so I just went to the manufacturer's website and I wasn't clear what the product did from looking at their website. It looked to me like the mounts had to be mated with a particular case. I do see now after being home and watching the video how that works. Looks like a really interesting solution.

Was looking at that case. Is it a hard plastic, or more of a spongy soft feel?

I took a leap as well. Ordered this one - [NEW RELEASE] RINGKE SLIM® Google Nexus 5 Case [sF BLACK] SUPER SLIM + SF COATED + PERFECT FIT Premium Hard Case Cover for Google Nexus 5 [AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Unlocked, ECO Package]

http://amzn.com/B00EPLTC1I

I find it humorous that there are reviews on the cases, people actually talking about how well it fit their Nexus 5.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
