At work, I get -60dBm on EDVO.  When that tower I connect to gets LTE, will my LTE strength be around -60 dBm too?

No. EV-DO and LTE use different signal strength metrics.

I've not been expecting an N5 Spark update before the end of the month. But it would be nice.

 

There are very solid rumors that the LG G2 will get its update before the end of the month. And that may translate to the N5 getting its update soon. But I'm not expecting it.

Thanks for the post. This is an issue with LG Spark capable devices. We are working with LG to come up with a fix for this issue. We, in no way, purposefully advertised this device as Spark knowing there was an issue. I have no exact date as we are waiting for a fix. We are doing all that we can to get this taken care of ASAP.

I finally got a little bit of band 41! location denton tx, phone lg g2 not sure why they are holding out on the g2 update I stayed connected to band 41 all day at work no band 26 near me but have an old clearwire tower a half a mile from work. im glad to finally have lte at work!

Surrounded by B41 here, at least according to the Sprint coverage map, but i can't get my N5 to connect to it. That said, if i use my UK SIM and run a network search i do not see "Clear" that some others are reporting either.

Had the nexus gotten the update to allow connection? I don't believe it has.

No i do not believe so but i thought i'd read some N5 users had successfully connected, just by activating the bands.

 

I was more surprised b41 was already in this area.

There have been a few isolated instances where N5 users have reported the ability to connect to Band 41. But the overwhelming majority cannot. They are waiting on the Spark update.

I love how in an official Sprint correspondence, it mistakenly says BC 26 and 41.  It's Band 26 and 41.  Band Classes are not used for LTE.  :lol:

Android Police takes every opportunity they can to hate on the Sprint network.  That makes it hard for me to have them as my primary source for Android info.

If you don't go to tech sites that don't hate on Sprint, your list of sites is going to be very small.

 

Also, I found this and thought that it was interesting that they say there's usually a 4:1 downlink/uplink ratio when it's been reported that Clearwire is using 3:2.

I know they were using 4:1 in initial FIT testing and were hitting 100Mbps consistently.  However, they must have thought it was worth sacrificing some of the top end of the performance to maintain solid upload performance and settled on 3:2.

I personally would prefer 4:1 but I can see how others would want the higher upload.

Wouldn't MIMO mean higher download speeds, relative to upload speeds, than the 3:2 time allocation (or spectrum allocation on FDD) might suggest?

One of the reasons why they went with a wide uplink ratio. Because at 4:1, as the MIMO increased over time it would only even make the low upload speeds look worse and worse.

 

Since MIMO will go to 4x4 and 8x8 in time and the download speeds will rocket, might as well have a better ratio for the uplink now.

I am currrently on vm and the customer service is useless but the price and the plan can't be beat by anyone. Was in the Anaheim area this past week where they do have lte and it was great! not sure what's up in Seattle, Sprint may not have gotten network vision done there not unlike Fresno where I live.

 

VM doesn't currently have a spark device but they did announce a WiFi device that is coming soon. Rumors are that Virgin and Boost are going to be rebranded as Sprint Freedom, so no big change there.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however. 
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.  
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
