I wonder if they will bring "spark" in any areas now

I looked in the Shentel public thread last night and someone said that they have the ok from Sprint to deploy B41 but there are some broadcasting limitations preventing them from deploying it at the moment or something along those lines. I don't think it's a major necessity right now, especially in nTelos land just bring ANY LTE to us and we will be more than happy.

I could have swore that in the Shentel Conference Call yesterday they said they are now free and clear to proceed with B41 in their entire coverage area.  And that they intend to proceed initially with 125 sites, with many being online before the end of 2015.

I had read that in the transcript as well, as well as something about moving to 6 sectors in some areas that are capacity constrained but need the reach of 800/1900Mhz. 

 

Also Robert, maybe the title should be updated to: (soon to be Network Vision)  :tu:

The acquisition of nTelos means Sprint  now has the 2.5 spectrum from Winchester to Harrisonburg which nTelos formerly owned. Roanoke is in there too it seems

So now that is out of the way, B41 can be deployed in the legacy Shentel network at large as soon as Clearwire is done transmitting (November I believe).

 

As for Morgantown, Clearwire seems to have the BRS spectrum in Preston and Monongalia counties. So it looks good to go there for the future.

As good as this sounds for people like me it sounds like this will be causing further delay. Not that we were getting closer to 4G under Ntelos's control of the area.

Not futher delay. nTelos says they will continue the LTE deployment they already had funded, which is all they had planned for now anyway. Shentel will take over all the things they didn't have money for and take it network wide. nTelos never had funding to go beyond their major cities. Shentel will upgrade it all.

 

So, all in all, the upgrade date each remaining tower in the nTelos network will either stay the same or improve. Nothing really should worsen. No matter how you look at this, it's really good news. Except for the redundant nTelos corporate employees who'll lose their job. Fortunately they are giving severance packages.

I have a coworker's son, which works for ntelos, saying something is going down Monday the 18th for sprint subs. That's all he would say though. Ok, been down this path before but I'll bite. Now we wait.

Just thinking about how to get the nTelos customers switched over to Sprint/Shentel.

 

Wouldn't they have to quickly get the existing ntelos sites connected to the Sprint/Shentel Core switching?

This would give Sprint customers access to the nTelos sites.

Then they can start the process of moving nTelos customers to the Sprint/Shentel network.

Yes this monday... its been a long day ha. Its probably hd voice for the entire area or something. But thats just my guess. Im just gun shy to say LTE, but hoping.

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
