LG G2 Users Thread!

Im over it. It will come when it comes. From what i hear from the people that does have it it doesnt change signal strength which is all I care about. All it did was make band 41 more stable.

stop your crying and sideload. (this is after reading what 6 or 7 pages of it) by the way, i registered just so i could help you out in getting your phone updated.

i TOT back to stock from 4.4.2, on the base, what was that ZV7, then took OTA which came immediatly for ZV8, and at that point (BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE) i booted to stock recovery, and adb sideload the ZVA zip off xda.

USE ADB SIDELOAD. IT WORKS GREAT AND WAS VERY EASY.

within 10 minutes of being 100% restore to stock via TOT i had it back up on ZVA.

before you ask, NO ROOT NO MODS NO HACKS/SCRIPTS

and so far-not a fan. i am contemplating rolling back to ZV8 until we get spark rollout in our area.

ART is awesome on my GS3 that I rooted. It makes the snapdragon 4 feel like a snapdragon 600

It will come in due time, i was surprised when i got the update and so far i havent had any problems with it. One thing i have noticed is the 3g and voice bars will go gray for a second or so and then return to normal. My though is its looking for lte like Terrell said. Its a little annoyance. I can get over the spark icons for now since 99% of the time im on 3g. I havent tried to use Hangouts for sms yet, i like the stock messaging app for now i might change once we get 4.4 to try it out. One thing i want to try in 4.4 is the ART vs Dalvik as far as performance and battery life. Sent from my LG G2 on the Now Network

Ive read a bit about it and was thinking i was going to try it on my G2 but its a 4.4 thing so ill wait haha but from what ive read it can boost performance and battery 10 to 20% but depends on the device and its chipset etc etc but it wouldnt hurt to try it.

well, the icons annoying, the additional LTE working next to the icon robs me of notification bar space, which is already extremely sparse on the factory ROM, (why the hell did they decide NFC needed its own icon ill never know) but seriously, i have signal bars, a spinning icon, AND the LTE! why oh why..

also, it seems my phones connectivity is less than stellar. today i found myself staring at an idle symbol (greyed not spinning) while trying to pulla  webpage up in an area where my coverage was decent before(flipping into airplane mode and back out gave me instant 4g likely band 25). also i found myself falling back to 3g more often, when previously i would have been on a slower 4g connection.

Im not rolling back just yet, but i am going to be keeping an eye on it. my typical day keeps me in band 25 99% of the time, and watching the 4g info screen i was only on band 41 for a split second on a commute (and transfer speeds were abysmal) so in my case it might be more bad than good to stay on this update

Just use G2 Xposed module and you can clean up your notification bar space.  Also I don't get why the Spark icons are sooo annoying to the point that it makes you want to revert.  Am I a fan of the Spark icon?? NOOOOO I rather stick with the traditional "4GLTE" plus arrows icons but what can you do.  You can always update the LGSystemUI.apk and replace the Spark icons with something else.

Ehh...I think ART is still too early to rely on for results.  I have read mixed feelings about ART when it comes to performance and especially battery.  Most people can't tell the difference in performance between the two thus far mainly because there are not apps that are optimized with ART.  WRT battery there isn't really any difference in battery because not enough stuff is ART optimized.

Is it just me or since the Spark update does your 3G speeds seem like 1x was before the update? I received the ota update on launch day and it has been that way on 3G since I received the update.

I finally read the community thread. Lol it was funny. They dont have any clue the only person that said anything right was that the spark coverage map is false as well as the lte coverage map. Never believe any other map thats not sensorly.

The Sprint Community Forum is 4 pages of hate regarding the lack of ZVA update. A couple seem to have developed a theory that Sprint abandoned the update. I am glad I hardly ever read that forum anymore. I really don't miss it.

Considering people have still not received the update could very well be indicative of more than normal error reports with ZVA. In that case they would fix the problems and then send out an updated version of the update.

So to be clear, does anyone know if a recent purchased G2 is being shipped with the ZVA update?

Unlikely right now. Given the rumored slow sales of the device it is unlikely that there have been any new phones containing the update in stores yet. I could be wrong.

So I figured I'd root and manually install the update. I installed ioroot, enabled debugging, installed the drivers and followed the on screen instructions in the cmd shell. It said I was rooted, but when I used root check to verify, it says I am not rooted. I am not sure what went wrong, but it won't let me redo it since ioroot says I already have su.

Did you get the update installed? This same thing happened to me. I did it the same way as you. Root checker also said I wasn't rooted afterwards. Maybe after installing the update, it unroots the phone? Just a theory as I'm new to all this android stuff.

No, I tried to move the update into the cache folder and got the same error about not having the permission which led me to check root and find out that it never took.

Yes, the moron ratio seems higher than average over there, but as the saying goes - "just 'cause you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you." Seems a lot of people haven't received ZVA yet and after a few days of initial activity, things are very quiet as far as recent update deliveries. Someone posted the same request at XDA: Who has received (not forced) the ZVA update in the past couple of days?

Need I remind our members?

You do not need to install a firmware update ASAP.  It will not change your life, and it probably will "unsolve" a few problems.

you dont need root to install

if you installed ioroot, navigate to the folder, plug phone in with debugging enabled and type adb devices.

if your device is listed, unplug phone, drop the update file in the ioroot folder, then power phone off

power phone back on by holding the volume down, and then hold power button down. once the lg logo comes up release the vol down and then push it back down again. it will say loading recovery mode.

when in that, down arrow to adb sideload. tap the power button on that

then plug phone into computer, and open cmd, navigate to ioroot

type adb sideload update.zip   (i renamed my file update.zip to make typing easier)

it will update the phone.

dont be scared, dont root just to update thats dumb.

if i bricked your phone im not responsible, abd sideload a stock file is almost impossible to brick tho

You are welcome.  And if you are one of those who must have the most recent Android firmware the second it is released, well, you are creating your own little vortex of disappointment.  Enjoy!

That's exactly what I did to get the MSL for my brother's G2. Saved me a phone call to Sprint. :tu:

I will give Sprint credit. They are the best carrier hands down when it comes to getting out updates first. Ever since the Evo 4g days.

Forgot to post this the other day but our LG rep said there are higher ups around his office that have g2's with kit kat builds on their phone that they're testing out. Hopefully that means kit kat is around the corner for you guys.

Personally, coming from a carrier like us cellular where we got neglected or forgotten about for months with updates I have to agree with you. I've been pretty happy with how quickly maintenance updates are released and how frequently phones are updated to new software versions.

    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
    • At some point over the weekend, T-Mobile bumped the Omaha metro from 100+40 to 100+90 of n41! That's a pretty large increase from what we had just a few weeks ago when we were sitting at 80+40Mhz. Out of curiosity, tested a site on my way to work and pulled 1.4Gpbs. That's the fastest I've ever gotten on T-Mobile! For those that know Omaha, this was on Dodge street in Midtown so not exactly a quiet area!
    • Did you mean a different site? eNB ID 112039 has been around for years. Streetview even has it with C-band back in 2022 - https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7303042,-73.9610924,3a,24.1y,18.03h,109.66t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1s2ossx06yU56AYOzREdcK-g!2e0!5s20220201T000000!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3D2ossx06yU56AYOzREdcK-g%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D18.027734930682684%26pitch%3D-19.664180274382204%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu Meanwhile, Verizon's eNB 84484 in Fort Greene has been updated to include C-band and CBRS, but not mmWave. I've seen this a few times now on updated Verizon sites where it's just the CBRS antenna on its own, not in a shroud and without mmWave. Odd.
    • Drove out into the country today.  Dish stuck to my phone like glue. At least -120 rsrp. Likely only good for phone calls (should have tested.) It then switched to T-Mobile. Getting back on Dish was another issue. I am used to dragging out coverage so I expected a few miles, but had to drive at least 10 miles towards a Dish site. Airplane mode, which worked for Sprint, did nothing. Rebooting did nothing. Finally got it to change over about 2 miles from the site by manually setting the carrier to Dish then it had great reception. Sprint used to have a 15 minute timeout but I did not have the patience today.  Previously I did a speed test on Dish out in the country at the edge of Dish coverage. My speeds were 2g variety. Dish has really overclocked some of these sites. Seen rssp readings in the 50s. Would have called them boomer sites with Sprint but much  more common with Dish.
