Amount of LTE usage

I have only been able to use LTE very few times.  But when I do I am shocked at home much LTE I will use.  I was on LTE only for a few hours & I used more LTE in those few hours than I have 3G the past 5 days.  With LTE will you always use a lot more than you did with 3G?

Oh yes you will. The faster the speeds you get the more bytes you will use

even though im on 3G alot more than lte I struggle to use one 1gb of data on 3g every month and never use 2 gbs. On 4G LTE even though I'm not on it often I use 3-6 gbs of data a month. One thing I noticed at least on the EVO LTE is 4G LTE doesn't seem to have a idle mode like 3G does so that may be why.

I chalk it up to comparing it with when the EVDO/RTT data hardly works and just turns your phone into a pocket warmer.

If we had working 3G, we'd go through data too of course, so its really comparing a working tower vs a non-working. ;)

This! When you have 3G that works well, you use a bunch more data too!

Oh, I dunno. I have WiFi at home, WiFi at work, and then 4G pretty much everywhere else. I rarely use over a gig a month.

Only a 1GB on data combined? I think 500 MB of mine per month is just app updates alone.

I update my apps all the time, but that goes over WiFi. And many restaurants and bars now have WiFi as well. And I've stopped streaming Pandora and moved to listening to eBooks while driving. So, yeah. I rarely use data. This would have been a $38 bill on Ting, heh.

I have no Wi-Fi at work which is hilarious since I work at a cell store. Then at home I can only get shifty 3mb att dsl, while lte at both places is a solid 8-15mbps. I use between 10-20 gb a month. A lot of that is because I spend time on Reddit and torrenting while it's slow at work.

It is funny I came across the thread at the same time I was checking my usage... (maybe I checked my usage because of this thread, don't remember)... In 1/2 of a month... I have used 123mb on 4G and 180mb on 3G... I have only had 4G three times and that was basically driving through the one tower we have in town!  I did a few (like 3) speed tests -- but everytime I look down it seems like it starts app updates or something when I hit 4G (no idle time like mentioned above???)...

I realize others have already basically told you what you need to know but I thought I'd offer you some more visuals. I consider my data usage for the month fairly low, but my 3G speeds near me are rather poor at the moment so I usually don't have the ability to load many sites, listen to my internet radio on the go, watch tv, etc. However with my wifi at home I can and it results in a much larger data usage. Also, I don't know if anyone else mentioned this yet so sorry to repeat information if someone has, but with a faster connection, your phone will choose a better quality version of whatever your doing. That could be a higher quality video file or streaming music at a higher bitrate. k6OMMJh.pngdtW9Ji0.png

OK, I suppose it is screenshot time.  It seems that the device calculates the date range differently.  Here is a typical month for me on one of my devices.  Clearly I would never want to have this on a Verizon account (unless on a grandfathered plan)

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
