Robert out into the Wilds on a Camping Expedition

Fellow S4GRU Geeks!  It is time for my annual Summer Family Camping trip.  We were planning to go back to the Black Hills of South Dakota, but because of a mandatory work meeting that I could not get out of, I have had to shorten our trip and stay closer to home.

I will be on vacation from Thursday evening, July 18th through Wednesday, July 24th.  I will be in and out of coverage the whole time.  So my availability will be hit and miss.

Also, the days before and after my vacation, my work schedule is very busy.  And I'm behind on PM's, emails and forum responses.  I am going to try to take a few hours every day to go through my backlog, but if I don't respond to you before I leave please be patient with me.  If you see others complaining, or wondering where I am, please link them to this post.

Since I will be within a few hours of Castle Rock, Colorado, I plan to stop by and check out some Samsung equipment and LTE goodness.  If they started deploying on sites further south the I-25 corridor, I would be ecstatic!

Have fun Robert! Funny thing, I'm taking a camping trip up to the Sequioa's this weekend with part of my church family, lol.

Have an awesome vacation, Robert! Given all you do, I almost feel guilty for going on vacation for the next two weeks, seeing as how I just got back from a weekend of hiking and visiting breweries in Southern Oregon...almost. ;)

Enjoy your time away. You deserve it! May you have a relaxing time, filled with much Samsung equipment and LTE goodness, but above all, don't forget to Sensorly map! :D

I sense a conspiracy.  Castle Rock, eh?  Charlie must be letting Robert camp on his estate and giving Robert free Dish Network for life in order to get S4GRU to stop maligning him.

Excellent timing, I plan on being on vacation right about the same time. Hopefully I'll be spending lots of time on this https://www.google.com/mapmaker?ll=47.003378,-95.064354&spn=0.030905,0.061197&z=14&q=Potato+Lake,+Hubbard,+MN&utm_source=mapseditbutton_normal&gw=30&lyt=large_map_v3

Man, I think this is the equivalent of making fun of my heritage. That's low: :hee:

Have a good (well-deserved) vacation! Make sure to turn on your Nexus 4 every once in awhile; 10x10 LTE (which is live in at least some parts of the Denver metro...personal experience) is fun while we wait for 20MHz TD :)

We are doing final packing. I'm inspecting the camper trailer and we should be on the road in an hour or so. See you guys in a week! Thanks to all of you who work behind the scenes, in the forums and help to cover so I can take a vacation with my family.

Bump! Just a reminder to all that I'm on vacation. Received a couple of impatient PM's today.

We are camping at Spanish Peaks near Walsenburg and a really severe storm is bearing down on our little camper.  Let's see if this thing can hold!!!  http://www.weather.com/weather/alerts/localalerts/USCO0396?phenomena=TSG&significance=Y&areaid=COZ087&office=KPUB&etn=0000

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
