Comments related to the NV Running List Thread

Recommended Posts

Here's my educated guess:

Sprint is installing shiny new site equipment with new backhaul (microwave, fiber, or what have you). So they set up shiny new network "cores", or data centers, with all the network routers and such. Cutover is probably much simpler and less disruptive than trying to work with the legacy locations.

That's what I figger anyway.

Sounds good and completely plausible.

Good site and great information.

Very much looking forward to NV here in Ft Wayne, IN market. After having only 1x in my town for the past 9 years, I won't know what to do.

Thanks! That is a common thing I hear from Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. :(

I was so happy when Sprint finally purchased iPCS and got rid of their crap. Seeing this area as a 2nd round market was like a godsend, having used WiMax maybe twice.

Looking forward to keeping up with everybody's progress through this site. :tu:

4G core?

LTE and eHRPD use the PDN Gateway architecture IP core network to get to the internet. Any PSTN failover happens in the PDN gateway as a separate link. The old EVDO carriers are tied to both the eNodeB (where they're now called eHRPD) and the existing HA (home agent) gateway that ties to the PSTN and the 1x carrier network. LTE is tied ONLY to the eNodeB and PDN gateway network, which it shares only with eHRPD. eHRPD exists only to make LTE (4G) / EVDO (3G) transitions smooth and seamless, retaining the same IP address & subnet. The OLD EVDO (only-- non- eHRPD) / 1x network MUST be separate.

Yeah, it is about time that the Harry Baals Government Center got some LTE. Bring on the LTE for your Harry Baals.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sprint is deploying LTE over its entire network between now and Spring 2014.

Here is a list of places not getting Sprint LTE:

lol thanks., a pic was posted over in the sprint forums that showed supposed LTE coverage.. Seemed a bit sparse in some areas. For the life of me I can't find that post now. Go figure.

Just a heads up.

NE Indiana, more specifically, the little town I live in has 3G as of this afternoon. I'm trying to determine whether it's just the closest tower to my house or all in the county. I also am unaware if it's a full NV deployment or what.

I'm so happy though.

You never had 3G data where you live before?

Until this afternoon, never.

For the past 7 years, to get 3G and/or WiMax, I've had to drive to either Muncie or Ft. Wayne, 45 mins either direction.

When iPCS first sued Sprint, they stopped upgrading. Thankfully Sprint bought them out and now things are looking up.

Wow. Welcome to the Sprint 3G family. Saw your speed test and I must say you have good data speeds for new 3G. Hopefully they don't slow down anytime soon.

Thanks man, it's nice to be a part of the modern age.

I think the speeds should stay fairly consistent, town of 5K. Now I just need the EVO LTE to see if it's a full upgrade :tu:

According to the NV list, you aren't scheduled for Network Vision upgrades until later this year, but they could have already put compatible equipment up ahead of time. At least, hopefully they did.

I know. And after hearing about some issues with the Chicago rollout, I was expecting LATE end of the year. It may just be a upgrade to EVDO, but I find it hard to believe going to that trouble and then coming back in a few months and doing more work.

Granted, when does Sprint ever make sense.

And that brings us all back to the question about new towers, did they just get plain upgrades and aren't ready for NV, or will they be partly NV ready from the time they are turned on?

The "new tower" I checked out in PHX was legacy equipment. So I guess that means they are not installing Network Vision equipment till they arrive to that market to do the full NV buildout. (although this is just one experience in an isolated case.)

Frankly, I consider that a waste of resources. They could have gotten everything ready for NV, but just put a software restriction in to prevent faster data speeds to maintain their "schedule". Oh well, that's just my opinion.

Hey Robert would you be able to tell me if they started NV in 60087? Around Lewis and sunset?

I agree to some extent. However, I wonder if new sites are handled by their Network Manager, Ericsson? ALU is the NV vendor for Phoenix. So its probably two separate contracts handling two separate things. Plus, we don't know how "new" this site is. Is it one month old, three months old, six months old? We aren't sure.

Looks like they are just starting NV at some sites in Waukegan. Three of them are scheduled to start NV in May. The rest look like August. The May sites will have 3G come live pretty quickly. The 4G LTE will come live later (like all the Chicago market). Although it appears the schedule may have slipped a little by a week or two.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
