It's out now. You need a locked bootloader and stock rom ZV9 to upgrade to ZVB.

 

I am running it now and it works great.

I noticed it fixes the Ingress drop items crash, and the signal bars now report your CDMA 1x signal now all the time, rather than your LTE signal when you are in 4G coverage.

I bought an Optimus G off EBay yesterday for $195. Couldn't pass it up for that price. Can't wait to play with it.

I'll be curious to hear your take vs. the nexus 4. It's amazing its the same hardware, yet the nexus 4 is so much more enjoyable to use.

I'm curious about battery life. The battery performance in my Nexus 4 is anaemic. And it takes forever to charge. My Note 2 charges in half the time of the Nexus 4 despite the much larger battery size.

It's a great phone and this Jellybean update fixes the only issues I had with it. The primary reason I upgraded this phone is because of a spreadsheet that compares it's transmit power recorded by the FCC compared to other phones. The Galaxy Nexus was driving me crazy with its horrible CDMA performance.

The GNex is an awful radio performer. Worst of any device I've ever had. I have solid performance benchmarks in my area for over a dozen devices. I'm looking forward to testing the Optimus G against the others in 1x and EVDO. We have no LTE in my area yet, so I will not be able to test that part until I go to Missouri in April.

I've noticed that with the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 - slow charging is annoying.

 

OG Battery life and charging speeds are MUCH different vs. nexus 4 - which again, is strange, considering it's the same hardware.

 

13MP camera is a joke though - I much prefer HTC's approach going down to a high quality 4MP shooter.

 

The LG overlay and just the way the device feels in your hand is way different - I much prefer the feel of Nexus 4 design and software. It's amazing how far Google has come with the bone stock android experience - I would even say, apple-like smoothness.

I tried that Ingress thing but never could get into it. Tried to get my gaming kid interested in it but he kinda lost interest after 15 minutes too.

 

I wouldn't go just by those numbers in your decision. Case in point, compare the Note2 and S3 in the LTE categories. I have this one spot by the house I always pick up LTE from a site over 5 miles away. It is usable as well. I stopped one day and I could not get the wife's S3 to pick it up at all. The S3 is not a poor performer in RF by any means, I'm just pointing out that the Note2 is supposed to be worse in the LTE category on paper when compared to the S3 but actually it is the other way around in the field.

I was going through withdrawls. I hadn't purchased a device in 4 months!!! I like to pick up devices when they drop below $200.

I'm activating mine now. Very nice display. LG's ICS overlay is pretty good. But I knew that already from the Viper. It's better than TouchWiz and Sense, IMHO.

Do you carry them all at the same time? Reminds me of previous job where I had one 2-Way Moto pager for our regional office, a 2 way RIM pager for corp tickets, personal sanyo Sprint phone, and cingular flip phone for the district office to get a hold of me. Kept that crap in my pockets along with my wallet, keys, and leatherman.

 

I imagine this vehicle dash full of mounts for each phone... I'm sure Sprint has him on some sort of potential fraud report since he has a high number of device swaps per month.

Yes I'm a Multiple Phone carrying person but I love my Optimus G so far, radio performance might actually seem a little better then my Photon Q. If I'm correct this device has 800MHZ SMR so will be interesting to see how in some of the subterranean depths of Manhattan I pass through 800MHZ performs since Nextel works very well in some of the depths. Now bring on the Jelly Beans!

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
